Hot Toys – MMS204 - The 1/6th scale ED-209 Collectible

Same here as I will be keeping mine. I really got it at a good deal with Secret Compass for $320 usd shipped 2 months ago.

I've opened it twice from out of box and the dome shows no cracks. Plus I already applied the Honda silicone grease and it looks/feels great imo.

No indications of deterioration on either of mine. My theory on the small batch of damaged figures: The accelerated aging and premature cracking is caused by the Styrofoam packaging. Styrofoam can emit ozone and volatiles when exposed to heat. These substances when trapped in the packaging will start a chain reaction that will cause the plasticizer to migrate from plastics and rubber. Don't leave ED (or any other figure for that matter) in a box that will be exposed to heat for any period of time. Exposure to hot summer temperatures and storage conditions could result in irreversible damage in as little as a few days of exposure under the right circumstances.

Wow...still have my ED (no cracks but I can't return) but that ozone bs is bullsh|t.

Seems like most that are still good are the boxed ones.

I never touched the dome or rubber arm/leg sleeves and mine still deteriorated....

Been watching the trilogy, makes me sad this is such a flawed figure. I want an ED-209!

For what its worth, my modge podge'd ed-209 is still the same after being treated 1 1/2 weeks ago. There are no new cracks on the dome or accordion parts and no warping. I get that this may just be a band-aid delaying the inevitable but at least I can say I tried to save it. Poor Ed-209 is not even going for 230 dollars on Ebay. Word has gotten out.

I don't think a replacement is going to help fix the dome. Hot Toys needs to address the issue and send free plastic replacement pieces to everyone who bought this but they won't so %$#@ 'em.

i use "stp - son of a gun" silicone spray for all the rubber parts in my ED, so far so good. no cracking signs at all.

Krytox (perfluoropolyether) is the answer if you're concerned and haven't already contaminated/damaged ED with Mod Podge, silicone grease or 303.

Krytox GPL105 is expensive, but it will not react in any negative way with plastics or natural and synthetic elastomers.

A tiny amount is all ED will ever need in your lifetime.

Look no further if you are serious about long term preservation.

No other product comes close to the performance charachteristics that the Krytox range offers.

What's the difference between this stuff and Shin-Etsu Grease? They are designed to do the same thing.

As long as it protects the rubber and doesn't damage the rest of the figure, that's all that matters. Now if EDs problem is more than just dry rot, nothing's gonna stop it from deteriorating.

Mine too. I hardly moved mine when I posed him. I think that's why it is still good. But, it is an action figure so you should be able to manipulate and pose as much as you want. Some of the forum members had drastic poses like stair-walking and such. The handling of the dome and joints most likely caused the problem.

Mine's been in the "ready" pose since I've gotten it. The only thing I've really done with it, is raise the leg sliders a little to give him some height.
