Its also a factor of the originals not being that amazing, but the 1/4 Mark 42/43 absolutely blew the 1/6 out of the water. They were a drastic step up in detail, proportion, and engineering. They don't seem to have put that much effort into them since

Exactly! When you see pics of the 42/43, you know there’s no way you’re looking at a 1:6 figure.

This and Mando are two quarter scale Hot Toys figures I cannot tell by looking at photos that it isn’t the sixth scale figure. Did they legit just blow up their 1:6 figure and call it a day? What if any improvements or features are to be had in this figure that weren’t possible at 1:6?
It's a shame because I remember being super impressed (and still am) with the Mark 43 with how life-like it looked.

Both in proportion, finish and presence. Something about the Mark 4 figure doesn't have that same effect. Looks like blown up 1/6 figure than a proper 1/4.

The 1/4 Mark 43 could have passed as a 1/1 looking statue.

The red satin finish on the 43 is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. The 4 looks like they've gone back to the more glossy bright red they use on the 1/6.

Something's USB powered since they mention a micro USB cable is required but not included.
Still battery operated on something this size? Missed opportunity
Yeah it's so annoying turning the lights on and off for hot toys figs. I get why they do it but it's a massive pain

Am guessing the base can be either battery or USB

Gosh, I forgot how great the Mark 43 looks. A bit too much yellow below the chest though.

That's essentially what they did (without two pieces that came with the 1/6 release), which is why I don't consider this to be a feat of engineering. However, there are light up features with this one! Bonus points for lights with batteries that will die in 15 minutes :ROFLMAO:

I think the 1/4 Mark IV is really well designed and proportioned. I think the lack of immediate difference to the 1/6 version is due more to how well that 1/6 fig was designed in the first place. Both the IV and VI are incredibly well proportioned to begin with and were a real turning point for the HT diecast series.

If I have a single issue with the design of the 1/4 IV, it's the oddly giraffe neck choice. Particularly with this strange hump shape in the back. Perhaps it will look better in person, but the lack of traps (******* HT hates traps for some reason) gives the neck a bit of silly look.

Are there any decent straight on shots that give a better look at how the head/neck look?

I will say the 1/6 version really nailed the head position and neck. It's much lower and more screen accurate. But the pics really show how little room for improvement there was in the overall proportions though. Other than some gaps etc. it was pretty damn spot on.

Compared to the film version (yes I know it's the VI, but the suits are both pretty damn similar in build), you can see how much lower the head is and higher the trap armaments are. The 1/6 version nailed it. The coming 1/4 version just seems like a step backwards.

Is it just meet or do other people prefer the more matte paint job we saw on the 1/6 mark 7 and the existing 1/4 iron man figures? Not a fan of the glossy paint.

The candy-apple paint jobs make for a striking toy, but I did prefer the more screen-accurate satin-y depth of the Mark 7 diecast.

I'm a huge fan of the more satin matte finish that they did on the 1/4 Mark 43 and the 1/6 Mark 7.

It really helps sell the figure as something that isn't some cheap super glossy plastic. It's a shame that for this they went with a more glossy finish. Just makes it look even more like a blown up 1/6 figure.

The matte satin finish on the 1/4 Mark 43, Mark 7, and Disco look better to me. I don't know if it's easier for Hot Toys just to use candy apple glossy paint on most of their iron mans - but they sure like to use the exact same paint color a lot as if they have a huge stash of that paint ready to go.

Hot Toys themselves have never been consistent with their iron man paint finishes. in 'close' reality, armours for battle won't have car polish shine and especially after battle. so i don't quite even understand the latest shine on their mark 85, mark 85 battle damage haha

I was stupid enough to buy the Mark 3, so I don’t need the Mark 4.

What do you guys think about buying the gantry alone and putting the Mark 3 into it?

Yeah I'm going to put the Mark III in to sort of recreate the iconic suit up scene from IM 1. The gantry's look similar in both films to me.

Yeah I agree, this one looks like an upscaled 1/6 die cast, the gantry as well.

Amen to that ! My only big issue with HT IM armors so far... Removed the neck on the unleashed armor back then, same with mk 7, even on the Neca one's.

Fingers crossed for the VI...

After selling all of my Hot Toys (1/6) with the exception of the three Spiderman from Homecoming I am thinking of jumping back in with the 1/4 line. I have 1/4 statues (Marks I, II and III by Sideshow) how do these Hot Toys compare to statues overall? Do these look like large toyish figures picked up from Target or Walmart? Do these have the look of a premium statue? I understand that statues and action figures have their strengths and weaknesses, but I am trying to avoid having these guys on the shelves and feel like they look cheap.

From everything I see in pictures and videos these guys look great, but was hoping to hear from those that have any quarter scale Hot Toys figures.

I have not preordered anything as this is a ways off and by the way things look these guys will get a pretty discount after it releases.

This release does look awesome! I had the 1/6 version previously and loved it.

Looking forward to your thoughts, thank you.

The Mark 42 & 43 look great. Much better than the sideshow statues IMO (I had the Mark 2 & currently have the Mark 3) for both paint quality and detail. I'm not a fan of the Mark III Hot Toys. I feel like that one took a step back. This Mark IV doesn't seem like it's as good as the 42/43 either based on the promo pics. Still think they would be at least same level as Sideshow though.

Not a great photo, but I think they look pretty good next to each other.

Hi!
I downsized a significant Marvel and Star Wars 1/6 collection last year, with a focus on the 1/4 scale Hot Toys lines. I picked up the Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Iron Man Mark III and Spider-man.

I think they are all great display pieces, and while their are little details that might not be 100% screen accurate, I tend not to see those.

I sold off Iron Man - Mark I through Mark VI and Mark 46 and the Hulkbuster, and was sad to see them go, but I needed to scrape up cash at the time to buy a house. I am more than content to rebuild that part of my collection in 1/4 scale. I have started picking up some of the 1/6 scale Star Wars again, as there are too many characters that will never get a 1/4 scale. I would hope Hot Toys could develop a line up similar to Sideshow Premium Formats in terms of depth, but it would take ages.

I love these big figures, and have pre-ordered the Mark IV with the gantry. I know it is hugely expensive, but it will be a great centerpiece. Hot Toys has a lot of resources with these existing figures to make the Mark II, VI, and VII at this point, and I would be floored if they put out Mark I and Mark V.
Sorry for the long post, wanted to share my thoughts and I hope this perspective helps!
