Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

So sprig, did you get a divorce? I ask because it looks like your wife, er, spouse has changed from a female to a football player. If so, then congrats! He can buy all of your figures from now on, he is loaded!

Man, I'm am literally laughing hysterically over that one :rock :lol

Nah, the wife knows she takes a back-seat to the Steelers. Which is all good, she's a huge fan, too :D

And I don't know if I'd want to be James Harrison's bee-otch. He likes to beat his women. But, I guess I could put up with it for some cool collectibles :lol

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

I think the statue (if it's even for sale!?) will do as well as any other statue from Fewture. And I honestly believe the figure from HT will sell well. Some people will snatch up anything Predator related from HT. Not to mention if it ends up being an Asia-only exclusive. Then demand will really go up.

I guess we will have to agree to diagree then. With the rising prices of HT figures, they put out a random Pred that has nothing to do with anything. Cool design? Sure, but I would compare this with the Wang Pred Bios. If this were Dead End, then I could see a lot of sells because a lot of ppl know that Pred. It wouldn't make any difference that it wasn't in a big movie, that one is still well known.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

My thinking was, this will primarily be a Asia-only figure. Like the Ani-com Scar Predator. I think some places in the states might get it (like SSC) but the target audience is Asia considering who the artists are (since they're big out there) so I wouldn't be surprised to see the actual figure hardly sold in the states. So that's why I think it'll sell well, since every other Asia-only figure HT has put out has not only sold well in Asia but has also become sought after outside of Asia.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

We'll see, I guess I can see it selling well in Asia for the reasons you mentioned. The Fewture pieces did very well over there before, and it's basically the same style. I don't think the demand is high over here in the states. It was when the statues were so rare and not known so well, but once SS got the molds to the Pred on horse, my original Fewture Pred sunk like a stone in value and the original Fewture pieces just don't sell like they were at one point.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

Not to mention all the recasts. That didn't help the after market value either.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

true, now that I think about it, recasters are prolly a big reason why real Narin pieces aren't worth more than they are. It's kind of a shame considering how awesome the sculpts are. I know I've lost sells on Narin pieces cause people would rather pay cheap prices on the recast version.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

And people who actually want a real version are scared about being duped into buying a recast. :lol

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

yea, but what Narin has been doing with a lot of his releases is sculpting in the limited numbers on the base. So far, I've noticed the recasts don't have those numbers or any numbers on them. It's still pretty easy to notice a raw recast. The recasters use that cheap white resin or whatever the hell they use. I forget, but off the top of my head, I believe Narin uses gray resin.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

Wow! Only thing I'm not in love with is the helmet. Yes, I get the theme but after seeing the ceremonial and stalker masks...

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

My favorite part is his claws.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

damn, that would actually make a bad ass dio. So it looks like there won't be a Keaton Bats at the Toy Fair after all, as everyone suspected?

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

I wish they'd just sell the base.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

This is what happens when fanboys obsessed with pedantic detail can't enjoy a piece of beautiful pop-culture inspired artwork.

All the stuff from Fewture Models (who made this Samurai statue) and even all the stuff from Narin is simply art. No more, no less. It's not "Extended Universe" stuff and it's not supposed to be related to the Predator movie franchise. These guys aren't making up back stories and trying to add on to the Predator mythos. They're just trying to make some cool looking pieces.

:exactly: and I second that :hi5:

Already posted it here before, doesn't raise any interest apparently...sad.

Really, people huh!
I think if you are into a thing, the background info on the artists is so important. It's like watching movies with no interest in writers and directors.

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

Even before, the current high roller scuplters at HT, there was Takeya, some of you guys should give him respect ;)

For me, he's a hero ;)

Re: Hong Kong Ani-Com 2011: Hot Toys SAMURAI PREDATOR (Sculpture?)

This is sick! I just completed my Predators line up. I guess it's time to get some more money ready.
