I wish it bombs. Really.
Not because I hate it. I don't hate it, I don't like it either. If anything, I'm 'nothing' it.
But it sure does open an even wider door in terms of HT ripping us a new one with their constantly rising prices. The way things are going now, the next 'regular' licensed release will be $299, a price tag used to be recognized with PF and LSB.
So yeah, I wish it a total and complete failure.
Maybe they figure it's a unique and artistic enough departure that the only way they can ensure a profit when few will be interested is to raise the price to $360*. Think about it this way: you either love it or hate it. There's no reason to consider those in the gray areas because they've done nothing but thoughtlessly complain for reasons unknown to them, like vareika has pointed out. With that being said, if it's a pure black-and-white situation, those who want it really want it. Hot Toys is aware of this and priced the Samurai Predator accordingly. They know only a handful of people will be enamoured enough to buy it and to such a degree that it would be worth $360 to them.
I, personally, 'nothing' it. It's definitely an interesting move on the company's part and, as I've said before, it'll be cool to see just what the final piece looks like and how it'll come together both artistically and mechanically.
*This wouldn't be an economically-sound idea in any other context, but based on the responses we've seen here, Hot Toys knew their fanbase and made a good business call.
