Impressive SilverStar!!!

Which versions of Black Widow and Thor are your favorite and why?

I have Black Widow (CW) but had a hard time deciding between that version and AOU.

Thor was my favorite growing up, he was the first Hot Toys figure I purchased. I decided on the TDW (heavy armor) which was tough bk he looks great with the bare arms and when I collected comics he was portrayed with the bare arms (and yellow boots lol). Ultimately I guess I just think he looks more ready for business with the armor. As you see I lack some consistency in my collecting rationale/logic

Thanks. :duff

My favorite Thor is TDW Light Armor version. I like the sleeveless look, I feel TDW sculpt is the best long haired Thor sculpt that bears the best likeness, and I like the cape with the slight dirty effect to it.

BW is a bit trickier. I have AoU and TWS, but I like the body on AoU better and the sculpt and suit better on TWS. Can’t really choose a favorite between the two.

I’ve had every version of Black Widow. You made the right call with the Civil War version. That is the best by far. Glad you didn’t go with AoU Widow.

I have AoU Thor, Gladiator Thor, and IW Thor. All are great for different reasons. Maybe you can get the IW Thor to display with the bare arms. That figure comes with newly developed arms as well.

I had every version of BW at one point as well, including IM2. I sold CW when I sold most of my CW stuff with the exception of Cap and Mk 46, and consolidated those two with TWS Widow, TWS Winter Soldier and SS Cap. I’m kinda regretting selling CW Widow though, and wish I kept that over TWS. I like the sculpt and body better on CW, but like TWS suit better. I’m actually not a huge fan of the CW suit, but covet that sculpt.

The AoU suit has kind of grown on me. I don’t like how the blue piping on the suit lit up in the film, but I like it on the figure because I think it kind of breaks up the black a bit. One day I’d like to get the CW sculpt and put that on AoU. I recall someone did that and I thought it looked really good.

I am very happy with the CW Black Widow, but what is it that don’t like about the AOU version.

I may actually break my “one representative figure” rule and get an EG Thor if they make him.

The Black Widow figures prior to Civil War all had a very vacant doll like stare that was pretty off putting. Civil War's sculpt has a bit of a determined expression which gives it life.

I'm with SilverStar17 and absolutely loved The Winter Soldier Black Widow costume as well. But something about that sculpt was especially vacant.

I like the design of the Age of Ultron costume as well, but that figure probably has the worst combination of the vacant eyes and what can go wrong with rooted hair. That figure absolutely deserved sculpted hair.

In contrast, the Civil War Widow is probably the best case example with rooted hair as it's pretty much perfect out of the box.

If you watch any of the video reviews on the AOU Widow, you'll see it's the same thing. The hair is a mess. And it is very, very difficult to make it look passable.

I sold it and subsequently consolidated my AOU display to just Iron Man, Cap, and Thor because all I saw was that hair poking out behind Thor's shoulder every time I looked at that shelf. It was very distracting.

Just saw EG for a 2nd time & I was impressed with Thanos on screen moreso than I remember being when I first watched. His battle scenes are epic.

He takes literally every Avenger’s best shot & looked impressive doing so.

I ended up preordering this version soon after the second viewing. With or without the proper gauntlet I don’t really care. I like the armored look.

Yep, I pretty much agree with that Widow assessment. I just need to find a way to get the CW sculpt again, but they’re always so expensive.

Right? Even those he’s the villain, is it bad to say that Thanos was actually my favorite character in both IW and EG? :lol

He was a beast, for sure.

Thanks for your input SilverStar and Myenshi you guys make good points regarding those figures.

Also I agree with you SilverStar and bedot about Thanos, he stole IW and was such a badass in EG ...he was a great villain and without a doubt a complex, compelling, and extremely dangerous villain...I was almost sad at the end.

The Endgame Thanos domination had me change my perspective on Thanos in general. I had always wondered if he would have put the beating on Hulk the way he did at the start of Infinity War— he has the gauntlet with the Power Stone after all. Question assuredly answered :lol

He wasn't using the stone though.. He just out fought and beat him.

He was my favorite in IW. Not so much in EG lol

He had his moments in EG. Like someone else posted earlier:

This Thanos yanked Stormbreaker out of the air and shoved it in Thor’s chest. This Thanos broke Cap’s shield. This Thanos destroyed Avengers HQ. This Thanos spun his sword so fast it elimated a full power blast from Iron Man. This Thanos held the power stone and knocked Captain Marvel into next week.

This Thanos was amazing.

But I do know what you mean regarding IW Thanos over EG. The focus was more on him in EG and the way he pretty much just rolled over the entire universe in acquiring the Stones. In some ways, IW was more of a Thanos film simply with the Avengers in it, than it was an Avengers film. In EG, the Avengers already collected the Stones for him. But as mentioned, he still had his moments in EG.

EG Thanos at the end wanted to destroy everyone on Earth, period. He fought with aggression and fought to the death. IW Thanos was just trying to correct the universe and not to kill everything. He was basically holding back on Titan as he wanted their deaths to be randomly decided for the greater good. Clearly, if he wanted to destroy all of them on Titan, he probably would have succeeded.

As far as characterisation goes, I slightly preferred IW Thanos to EG Thanos...but there's very little in it. Two wonderful, three-dimensional versions of one of cinema's most memorable villains...and two superb Hot Toys figures, which is why I am going to do what I can to accommodate both.

That said, if I had to choose just one, I'd probably go for Endgame as it's more of a 'greatest hits' Thanos...and it just looks a little cooler.

Of course people are going to like the Infinity War portrayal more.

In that film he is a fleshed out, three dimensional character that the movie revolves around. He propels the plot and Infinity War is unique in that it is one of the only superhero films that lets the main villain play as the central protagonist.

Endgame is completely different. It shifts the focus from the villain back into the hero and Thanos is little more than a typical mustache-twirling, one dimensional bad guy. But it works because the previous movie spent so much time on his characterization.

Fully agree with this.

I like him in IW as a character more.

But if it comes down to display him on my shelf, I want a "full equipped" Thanos with maximum accessories, which would be the EG version...

I like both, and love that both seemed so different despite only a 4 year difference between them... IW Thanos was someone you could almost sympathize with and wasn't overly aggressive unless provoked... which to me is a bold and compelling take on the character. Certainly not what I expected.

EG Thanos was bloodthirsty and wanted to erase the entire universe not just half and reminded me more of Thanos from the comics. As far as design goes I do prefer him with the armor as that's the closest to his more iconic look from the comics. (GOTG thanos was closer, but I like his updated armor more.)
