As far as characterisation goes, I slightly preferred IW Thanos to EG Thanos...but there's very little in it. Two wonderful, three-dimensional versions of one of cinema's most memorable villains...and two superb Hot Toys figures, which is why I am going to do what I can to accommodate both.

That said, if I had to choose just one, I'd probably go for Endgame as it's more of a 'greatest hits' Thanos...and it just looks a little cooler.

Of course people are going to like the Infinity War portrayal more.

In that film he is a fleshed out, three dimensional character that the movie revolves around. He propels the plot and Infinity War is unique in that it is one of the only superhero films that lets the main villain play as the central protagonist.

Endgame is completely different. It shifts the focus from the villain back into the hero and Thanos is little more than a typical mustache-twirling, one dimensional bad guy. But it works because the previous movie spent so much time on his characterization.

My precise sentiments as well.

I think both the IW and EG versions of Thanos look amazing and I can fully understand why many people will purchase one if not both figures.
I ordered the Endgame version largely bk I think the his armored appearance is more iconic as it is closer to how I remember him in the comics. But another reason I got the EG version is because I was worried that it may be the last version of Thanos we may get from Hot Toys based upon the ending of EG.

However, do you guys think that we may have a chance to see a younger version of Thanos (hence another figure) if Marvel does make A movie about The Eternals??

I prefer Infinity War Thanos, the hero of the movie, to End Game Thanos but I like this look more.

I’m really interested to see how time judges which cinematic look is more iconic. The armor resonates with a lot of the older crowd due to its comic book roots, but what of the masses who’ve never heard of Thanos before these movies? Maybe it’s like Luke; ANH for some, ROTJ for others? :lol

Good point KBA.

It will be interesting indeed.

Although regardless of which one prevails as being the more sought after one, you really can’t go wrong with either one because each one has its legitimate reasons why it would be seen as being the more “definitive” representation. All comes down to personal preference. IF I had to venture a guess, I’d say it’ll probably be the armored version (especially if it includes the Infinity Gauntlet), but who knows.

Watch it be neither of these and end up being the deluxe BD armored version. :monkey3

IW starts with armor and EG ends with armor. OCD can always justify the armor for both films.

Thanos was his best in his skivvies... but IW Thanos looks a bit like a Stretch Armstrong. Probably moreso over time.

I do agree that the inevitable battle-damaged Thanos will be the best of the bunch. New head and all. Plus the "headless" accessory. And the fried glove.

Comic book roots is closer to IW besides not having a helmet. Thanos wasnt fully armored. Maybe people with IW Thanos can buy a EG helmet for it. Here's a link. Having problems loading the picture.

You are right he was never fully armored in the comics but he was at very least partially armored with his arms covered. Also I remember reading somewhere that even the portion of his outfit that wasn't obviously armor was some sort of tech material.

I guess the fact that for most of IW Thanos was sleeveless and wearing corduroys made him seem less like the Thanos I remember from the comics. Btw: I am not saying that the IW version doesn't look cool

Also Thanks for the link!

I like the IW thanos better but regardless endgame is the better figure covered up with the metallic armor, while hot toys gave IW thanos a plastic shirt that should’ve been baggy with excellent articulation. They also made his waist super thin.

I personally don't care much at all for farmer thanos, I only want armored so this works perfect for me. And I like the option of whether to pose with sword or not.

I surprised myself by liking the unarmored version despite knowing the comic book roots.

That’s what I’ve always said as well. I feel this one is more versatile because it has the blade to be displayed as EG Thanos, and apparently the Infinity Gauntlet to also be displayed as IW Thanos from the beginning of the film. Or a mixture of both.

As I’ve mentioned, I actually got this one with IW more in mind than EG, because that opening scene with Thanos on Thor’s ship is one of my favorite, if not favorite, Thanos moments.

Thanos intro in IW is definitely a great moment. I did like his speech when the MCU Trinity walked up to him in EG tho quite a bit. Love how he just sat there playing with a rock from the debris that he just tosses before it goes down. I like little details like that

Yeah that was a great moment in EG!
What a badass villain he is. I think many of the people who pass on one of these versions of Thanos will regret it. He seems like almost a must for any collection that features the Avengers figures. I feel bad bk I am sure some people will not want to/be able to buy him because of his cost, unfortunately I highly doubt if either version (IW, EG) will be obtainable at discount prices

IW Thanos 10% off at sideshow if you are lucky to get that pop up code.

I definitely get why a lot of people want the most visually appealing version of Thanos. I just can’t resist the version of Thanos when we first got to really know Thanos. I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned the snap. Huge aspect for me. I’d love to have a custom version done of Thanos with Storm Breaker imbedded in his chest whilst snapping :rock

I completely get where you’re coming from here, being that the entire IW film as a whole was about building Thanos up as a character and knowing his background, and what his intentions were because of that background. And when it comes to certain Thanos moments per se, the snap like you said is high up there as far as being iconic. However, I bolded the part I did because that moment to me came in the first scene in IW, where we saw Thanos standing with his back turned, then began speaking and turned around with Thor completely helpless in his right hand, and made it abundantly clear that he wasn’t ****ing around (“Dread it, run from it, but destiny arrives all the same. And now it’s here. Or should I say...I am.”) Then subsequently, proceeded to kick the crap out of Hulk. First 5 minutes of the film, and the strongest two members of the mighty Avengers got their asses handed to them.

To me, that was the moment where you knew Thanos was the guy, and undoubtedly was going to be the climax of this whole journey. The ultimate villain. That moment, in addition to liking the armored look more in general like you said, plays a large part for me in why I chose the armored version. Like I’ve said, I actually chose the armored version with IW more in mind than EG, based on the scene I just referenced.
