If HT saved us big bucks by not making boxes a work of art, I would accept a basic bare box that served only to protect the contents inside.

I don't display boxes, I look at them, say cool, then store them.

I just don't have the room to display them, and now that I'm thinking about it, I don't see many collectors that do either.

Yeah they look cool, but I would rather pass along the savings to what really matters, the actual figure, not the box.

I wonder how much these cool artsy fartsy boxes are costing us anyways.

If it's just a few dollars, then ____ it, keep making them look good :lol

I'm sure the box isn't a major factor in the price.

Having a nice, artfully designed box is a good way for a manufacturer to show pride in their product. If what's inside is really an awesome piece, then it deserves to be housed in an equally awesome package.

Wow, I just looked up the Hot Toys Superman box. I didn't realize what it was that you guys were all talking about.

Man, that is terrible. I mean, I'm sure it looks nice on its own. But from both a storage AND a display perspective, that thing's a real _____.

I display most of my boxes, on the same shelves as the figures - except on far higher shelves, way up out of reach (leaving the line-of-sight shelves and below for the actual figures, which need to be up close). But I'm glad I'm just a Batman fan, as that Superman box looks like it'd suck up the space of 3 separate boxes to display.

I disagree, having a designer box means they have to employ someone to do the box art, then get it specially made. It all adds up for something that gets stored away.

I doubt we'd save much, if anything, if they came in cheap-o boxes. These fancy boxes are probably only adding a buck or two per figure. Things get real cheap when they make it in the thousands.

If I'm paying $200 for a figure, it better be packaged well. I don't care if I'm going to store it away.

high-end collectibles like this should come with boxes that will stand the test of time. personally, id rather have them in tin/aluminum cases with the classy logos to go along with the QUALITY materials that they should use on the figures.

But that wow factor starts to fade away when you're looking for a place to store the damn thing . . . Afterward it just feels unnecessary. If it were the embossed '89 Batman logo oval, I'll be honest, I'd probably lose my ____. It would be a cool box. The problem is, STORAGE.
Yeah, that was my point earlier - nice in principle, not so good on a practical level.

Once the novelty wears off, the box design is more of an annoyance than anything else.

I though it was perfect, but then I read the cape issue....

Man, I can't stop staring the cape....it's to thick...

Anyway, if the final product is like the proto, I can assume it'll be the best Batman form HT.

You can still have a well packaged figure which accomplishes 100% safety of said figure without it being all artsy fartsy.

I would still want the figure to be protected with the thick double clam shells they are in now.

Screw it, just keep making those bad ass boxes, I don't care how much they cost :lol

I wish they'd all be packaged in the foam. I've seen paint ruboff on the clamshells. And, foam would eliminate the need for much of the plastic wrap, such as around the face and hands etc. The DX's seem a lot better packaged in terms of protection.

Depends on which foam.

I agree, I would take the DXO2 foam any day over the plastic, although the sharp edges of DX02's back pack (where he keeps his cape tucked in, what is that called exactly :lol) has finally begun to tear the foam from me pulling it out and pushing it in so damn much.

But then there is stryrofoam that was used for the Tumbler, and that rubbed paint off.

I guess the DX's need something to differentiate from the rest, hence the nicer foam.

It is nice, but I agree about sharp edges, it was a _____ getting the backpack out with my DX02, and even then, it still tore a bit. That being said, I very much prefer it to the clamshells, it has a much more "high-end" feel to it, even in appearance.
