Zaius' hair would be the easiest to recreate since there is no hairline to contend with.

On that note, Caesar will be extremely difficult to render in real hair due to his signature high forehead hair line. :banghead :banghead :banghead

The hardest hair to recreate would be Zira's hair with the curl in the back. I would love to see Hot Toys take the challenge. The gorilla's hairline is also a big problem. They missed the widow's peak, but overall it does not look bad. It could be tweaked. They better do a good job on Zira's hair...she has a soft widow's peak and would look idiotic with a straight hairline.

I agree about Zira, but with Zaius it's not the hairline but the haircut. He has that funky Beatles 'do with bangs that fall a certain way, and even a bit of a wave and a particular shape to his beard and mutton chops. The trim job on the gorillas is relatively simple compared to Zaius'.

Zira's bob/perm is very problematic. They can't let it just hang down straight like on the gorillas. But all the shorter beard apes have different hair lengths and levels that look very difficult to recreate with whatever material they're using for hair... especially in scale.

Man, next thing You know the Apes will have curlers in their hair!:rotfl

Snickertown is getting his Sideshow Zira re-haired. I wonder how she is looking. The last time I heard she was still on the workbench. I need to see the little curl on the back of her hair. Without it, she would look strange...

I think that Sideshow took too bloody long after the Hot Toys announcement to make the apes available for preorder. :monkey4

I'm not too worried about the line. My Ape City lives and breathes with or without Hot Toys.

I think the HT Apes will be a huge seller. I opted to buy mine for another distributor only because SS was taking too long to release them. I did order a Captain off of Sideshow to show them support but cancled due to another American distributor had him cheaper. SS wouldn't price match so I droped my order.

I hope he post pics! Can't wait to see the finished product. I think SS got the sculpts dead on: their paint apps is what is/was really lacking. The SS Ursus that the fellow put hair on really looked more like James Gregory once the hair was added. I think the paint job on HT Ursus is what makes him a better catch.

I can't agree. I don't see Gregory in that sculpt at all. The SS sculpts were good but I don't think they were dead on at all.

Yeah, I remember being really disappointed with Sideshow's Ursus effort. The likeness was off and the helmet was... well, just pathetic. :horror:horror:horror

I still believe that if Sideshow would have hit that particular figure out of the park, it would have rejuvenated the line a bit and the line would have lasted a bit longer. But the lack of care given to the figure was the first big sign that Sideshow was trying to find their way out of the line.

That and that damned circus poster exclusive of Caesar's. I mean...WTF? :banghead:banghead:banghead

Just my opinion.

I remember the Ursus and Brent days! I once commented in an SS Toy Fair to Dusty that Brent looked like Vincent Price and she laughed. :)

Ape City was nearly burned down during that dark time.

Well, I stand corrected. I was dissapointed with Taylor and didn't think he looked like the prototype at all untill I had him repainted. Once I had him painted he looked more like the prototype anyway. Ursus looked better once the one fellow added hair to his. (I think Jess has the link to his site.) Maybe they weren't dead on, and they weren't as good as the Medicom sculpts, but I still feel they were very good since all I had to compare them to were Megos. Zira's sculpt was very excellent. And I know they werent a huge SS seller but the Mutants impressed me! I only wish they would have made the rest.

Now Brent, SS droped the ball all the way on him. He does indeed look like Vincent Price. I know I am proably the lone wolf here but I hope Sideshow gives us an outstanding Taylor, Nova, and Brent and the TV version of Burke, Virdon, and Galen. But it will be hard pressed to beat Medicoms Nova sculpt. The did an excellent job on her.

Hi Dr. Zauis! Which distributer did You go with? I would like to save money also. Thanks!

I allways thought that Brent looked like a Caricature of Himself. Really strange!:google

Yes, those were some interesting times. I quoted what Sideshow said, almost got banned and was blamed for Sideshow persons not coming to the forum. Now, all these years later, perseverence has led to Hot Toys being prompted, by SS, to revive the line. It would seem, like the planet of the apes series itself, we have come full circle. I do wonder whether Hot Toys will be brave enough to take on making a Brent though?

Wow. That was wayyyy before my time in Central City!! :horror

Yeah that goes way back to when the Freaks board was on another server. Back before the great EZ Board crash of '05.

Like Sideshow, if Hot Toys can't get the approval of the James Franciscus's estate to use his likeness I'd rather they not try. Besides, there are plenty of figures to do that they can get the license for, it should keep them busy for awhile... plenty of apes to do. :D

Besides, I've seen what Hot Toys have done without the likeness approval of John Hurt.

I want lots of Hot Toys apes, but I'd like to see them do Taylor and the other astronauts, too. With beards and without.

By other astronauts do you mean Ape-O-Nauts? :monkey3:monkey3:monkey3

Don't get me wrong... I love the astronauts. It's just that Sideshow choked their line with too many Taylors last time so he isn't exactly on the top of my list of figures to wish for.

I wonder if the recent death of Charlton Heston will factor in or change any license issues concerning obtaining his likeness.

Probably not... I hope not... but you never know.
