Could have something to do with the double jointed elbow.

Depending on how it's posed it can make the upper or lower arm look a little unnatural.

Just wanted to demonstrate what I was talking about here (a couple pages back).

The figures right elbow is flexed at the proximal joint making the forearm appear longer. The left elbow is flexed at the distal joint making the forearm appear shorter.

[I usually do a combination of both... and of course you can go well beyond a right angle if both are used.]

could you add hands to the body and retake the pic, i think the hand also helps when demonstrating the proportions

Thanks Maglor. I wonder how easy or not it will be to test this on John Connor without declothing him. Hes the one the problem is most evident on as far as I can see.

Here you go:

To be fair, I reversed the pose to keep handsculpt from being a factor:

And just for fun:

Didn't know TT's could do yoga did you?:wacky

But seriously, they really are quite versatile!

Easily the best I have ever worked with!

Once you know how the joints work, should be easy through his clothes!

The problem is, that only fixes the issue for certain poses, if you bend the arm at a V where both sides of the elbow joint are bent, then there's still too much forearm.

A lot of poses really would benefit from a shorter forearm vs. alteration in which part of the elbow joint is bent.

I get it.

You can kind of see what you are talking about in my "yoga" picture.

Exactly, which becomes an issue for certain gun holding poses. Fortunately the gun with the FB Connor helps on the v1, but with the excess arm length, the guns extend out from the body too far or the hands don't really line up in proper positions.

Ultimately, these are great figures and this is a pretty nitpicking issue, but it does hold some figures back from looking as sharp as they could.

In human anatomy, the upper arm should be longer than the forearm, and in the case of a "V" shaped arm pose, the upper and lower arm are almost exactly the same length, especially when you include the wrist peg.

I've been thinking about why Hot Toys decided to make them this way and here is what I'm thinking:

Without clothes (or just a t-shirt, as in the case with Marcus Wright) the neck on these figures is way to long. This is talked about frequently on this site.

The reason they make the neck so long is that when you put clothes on the figure, they stack up on the shoulders (because truly 1/6 scale fabric is impossible) and would be up to the characters ears otherwise.

When the clothes are on, is makes the upper arm appear longer, thus bringing the upper arm/forearm ratio into harmony.

Clearly doesn't always work perfectly, but it's a compromise they chose to make for a better over all appearance.

My issues isn't even so much appearance as it is that I'm finding that as I learn from these discussions and notice things with figures I wasn't able to identify, I really why I have struggles. This forearm talk has helped me to realize it's probably the main factor giving me problems getting a good looking gun pose with v1 John Connor. I have Marcus on a Narrow and can get fine looking shotgun poses, but it's a different type of gun to hold, but the ones Connor uses, I really think if the forearms were shorter, it'd be easier to find poses that look natural and believable to hold the weapons.

Finally a tripod. No more stacking on books and CDs for me. Just trying some decent still atosphere shots with one of my favourite HT figures.

Awesome pics dcflake!!!

I got my Marcus today!:banana:banana:banana

So much cooler than I was expecting.

I feel like I really need to make this into 2 figures because I love the batal damaged in a t-shirt look, but I also love that blue jacket!!!

There goes another $90!:horror

A quick question for MaulFan:

Having trouble telling, but does Marcus have the double elbow that we have been discussing?

There are probably pics of his arm without the rubber sleeves somewhere in this thread but... guess I'm feeling lazy!

No idea, and I switched my Marcus onto a Narrow TT so I haven't followed much regarding the body he came on. I do know you really can't bend past a 90 degree angle, then the rubber wants to snap it back downward.

it would be cool to put him in a wheelchair, and a replacement arm for the battle damaged side

I'm sure someone will do this!

It wouldn't be hard to take the normal Marcus head and put it on a TT with some Jarhead clothes.

Bam! There's Jake!
