The eye sockets are fixed, but doesn't mean how the figure looks is fixed for people.
There's a good chance I'll be having someone cloud the dome on my figure if it's possible to get it off (I wouldn't want to paint the outside and lose the shine of the clear plastic), depending on how it looks and photographs.
From most photos I've seen so far between official and conventions, the skull shows a bit too prominently for my taste and I have a feeling will do so in photographs. Probably the only real gripe I have with the NECA Alien, small and big, is that the skull shows clearly and any photo you take you get the sockets showing clearly and it just doesn't look right to see them, looks best to have a faint notion it's there and see it under special lighting, but as a standard, see a smooth surface.

I see that the eyes are better than they were, but they are still a bit too oval and slanty. I actually think the vinyl collectible Alien got the skull right.

All the more reason there should only be a hint of the skull beneath, seeing eye sockets implies there should be eyes, mysterious undefined shapes is just interesting and at times frightening.

This eye topic is really starting to drive me nuts. Isn't anyone here old enough to remember Alien when it first came out? No? Didn't think so.
The whole skull thing was just a backstage gag for Giger who loves skulls. The model makers just stuck it in there for fun. It was never suppose to be the alien's "skull" or anything. It's like putting R2 and 3PO hieroglyphics on the temple walls in "Raiders". It's just a thing moviemakers do.

I wasn't even born until 4 years after ALIEN
I never caught that little factoid though, I always thought that the skull and details were done so that if light caught it right, something might come through and make for interesting visuals. I never thought you were meant to know exactly what was beneath, but I didn't know there wasn't a serious creative choice behind doing it.
