Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure
Meh, who cares. As long as it's on the figure.
Meh, who cares. As long as it's on the figure.
Uh...yeah...some of us ARE old enough to have been around for it.
You shouldn't answer your own questions...makes ya look silly when you turn out to be wrong.
And I'm not sure where you got your info on this "skull" issue...but you couldn't be more wrong. Giger ALWAYS meant for the skull to be there.
No, the skull wasn't meant to be it's eyes...but it was DEFINATELY meant to be there. Not a "gag" or just "stuck in there" at all.
The eye sockets are fixed, but doesn't mean how the figure looks is fixed for people.
I was 13 when ALIEN came out.
Am I suppose to take your word for it?
I was a voracious Alien fan in the summer of '79 and I read just about everything I could get my hands on about it. I understood that the skull was not intended to be part of the alien biology. It was part of the 'prop' of the costume. Meaning if they had a scene in the movie where Ripley hacked open the head a human skull would not have fallen out. But for some reason, over the years, perhaps because of all the photos of the sculpt, that the skull ended up being considered part of the alien... not just part of the design. That was my point. That it wasn't, in the original film, suppose to have a skull under there. That's why they hid it in the movie.
And just so you know, I look silly whether I'm wrong or not
I was 11 when Alien came out. I snuck in to see it and remember it well.
So, no, you don't need to take my word for it.
Now, I guess in all of your voracious reading, you missed one...
From "GIGER'S ALIEN" (in Giger's own words)...
"The eye section of the front view (plate 371...which is one of the earlier concept drawings of the Alien WITH EYES) is too suggestive of motor-cyclist's goggles. It has to be replaced by a dark, semi-transparent cranium, stretching back over the whole cranium and SHOWING THE EYE-HOLES IN THE SKULL"
So, you're wrong. Giger always had the skull in mind and for it to be seen.
This was not put there by anyone else. It was part of the Alien biology.
But, please...feel free to quote any source you have that confirms or validates your opinion.
no, they simply have eyes. some of them. there is nothing serious in seeing difference between two things. it's just strange why figure companies promise a movie figure and give just some of their own fantasy.Fans are serious
Charming as ever P.
I just wanted to chime in to say that you guys are frickin' awesome.
See, that's the thing the HT and other companies are starting to realize. Fans are serious, they really know they're stuff, they've done their research and collected writings and tons of ref pics over the years. Some are even sculptors and prop makers themselves as well. You can't just pass off any sculpt, people notice every little detail, and you'll hear about it.
It's cool that people are so passionate about they're collectibles and hobbies.
You know, I think sometimes we give the people responsible for these creatures too much credit in terms of consistency. I imagine it went something like this:
Giger: "I have given ze Alien a heeuman skull, zo it is partly organische, but allzo it has all zese pipes und so war, which is what I call Bio-mechanische"
Ridley: "Hmmmm. Tell you what. Why don't we put a semi transparent cowl over it, so that you can't really tell where its eyes are, or how it sees?"
Giger: "Sassen frassen rassen..."
...and that was about the sum total of the thought that went into it.
What's relevant is how the dome and skull combination played out visually on film, and in the movie, the skull was very muted and subtle, where 90% of collectibles make it prominent and easily seen.
