Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

Odd. From the Director's Cut, I always thought the alien would instinctually grab and cocoon a few victims for the facehuggers, but there were just no eggs on the Nostromo.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

i agree that overall it's a very nice figure and imo represents the alien well enough.
"well enough" doesn't cut it for a high-end 1:6 scale $150+ figure.
if that's all i expected i'd go back to collecting the kenner figures.

there' a big difference between representation and replication.
to quote michael crichton: "absence of proof is not proof of absence."
to quote prefused: "put up, or shut up."
if there is one shred of empirical proof that HT has ever made any change whatsoever to a multimillion $$ franchise product based on some opinions on an american-based message board i will eat my hat.

unless... are you secretly Ridley Scott?

well, it may not "cut it" for u, but it does for a lot of other collectors. u can say we've got lower standards or whatever, but the important thing is we like the figure enough and don't see the issues (yes i agree it has a few small issues) as detrimental enough to mar our enjoyment and appreciation of it. that's the nice thing about art. it's all subjective.

if you're not happy with the figure, then so be it. your opinion is no more or less valid than those of us who feel it is a well-made "representation" (yes, i'm quite aware of the differences in word definitions).

to quote the joker: "why so serious?" :monkey5

dude, u seriously need to ease up. telling me to "shut up" isn't really necessary.

to me, the change in the skull eyes were proof enough that someone at hot toys is listening. u may choose to disregard or dispute it. that's fine.

besides, eating your hat will just give u serious indigestion. though it's got lotsa fibre. :D

and no, i'm secretly tyler durden. no, really.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

Funny enough...about six months after the release, he'll be on here whining about why he can't find a loose one on eBay to buy. :duh

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

if they had went ahead and used the idea of each egg actually being a cocooned-transformed host but seriously.. that whole idea would've been sick
it was the original, and it was alien.
queen became a simplification for those who don't appreciate giger.
unless... are you secretly Ridley Scott?
"you are ridley scott" should be a swear like "you are stupid" after he told that in his mind insects who seed eggs into other insects cause hybrids.

his lack of knowledge in biology is the cause of all this hybrid crap, as well as it is an underestimation of giger's design, based on many parts of human body in alien body, and not always on its place, like p_e_n_i_s -head (hello moderation), having nothing common with hybridisation. scott didn't understand neither giger nor biology at all, so his family name is a synonym of stupidity for me.

you may dislike this opinion, i don't care, it's mine and it's logical.

well, it may not "cut it" for u, but it does for a lot of other collectors.
the number of people who don't care about the likeness is not a reason to make an alien looking like devil-godzilla.
the only result of this number is the low quality of sculpts all along in future.

That's really what it comes down to, right? These figures are crazy expensive, after all. If it's as accurate as it can be, I'm prepared to pay that price, but if it's not, well... I mean, I'm a reasonable guy, but if major things (like the shape of the eyes for example - I haven't been paying that much attention to this thread, have they changed those yet?) are different because of artistic interpretation, well, then I can see why people are all worked up about it. Hot Toys has come to far - and become too expensive - for things like that, imho.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

Theres a way to connect the egg morphing and the queen thing, easily. If an Alien is alone, he must create a queen. They morph 2 hosts, one queen, and one guard. This basicly kills the alien, he only has 24 hours? to live.

Meh.

So the Alien is Jack from 24? God this film gets deeper as I read on!

Meh.

this has basically been my logic for Aliens for a while. they're adaptable so they "find a way"

I think Scott was talking hypothetically, applying it as an analogy to the alien.
But that's just me.

Yep. According to Scott, the Alien's lifespan is only 24 hours. However, since that never continued in the other films, it never was canon. But with the egg morphing, it could be.

Like when it makes a person into an egg, some of it's vital fluids are used up. Or something along those lines:rolleyes:

I think I read somewhere that the when the Big Chap was hiding on the Narcissus that it was actually going into hibernation mode which is why it was kind of slow after Ripley had awakened it. I'm not so sure about a 24 hour life cycle because if that were the case all they had to do was try to wait it out.

i'm not an art collector and i don't pay premium price for what some sculptor thinks the alien kinda looks like.
you might be better off sticking to the mcfarlane figure if all you care about is representations.
and i don't see how my saying this figure doesn't look like the alien in the movie is an opinion.
there's plenty of detailed photographic evidence here that clearly shows it isn't accurate. that's a fact.

"put up, or shut up" is an idiom. a very well-known one at that. nobody actually told you to shut up.
you're really gonna get offended by that? am i the one who needs to "ease up"?
also, i'm not really gonna eat my hat. that's a phrase. an idiom. it's not literal.

anyway, the changes HT made had nothing to do with this forum. or any forum.
they get orders to make expensive changes in new products from the top down. not from american message boards.
HT is probably smart enough to not correlate opinions on the internet to actual sales.
Funny enough...about six months after the release, he'll be on here whining about why he can't find a loose one on eBay to buy. :duh
nope. unlike the dog alien, there's plenty of alternatives to the HT big chap figure.

And, you know this how?

You've got an inside source that told you they don't pay attention to what the people who buy these things say?

You're an insider working for Hot Toys?

You live next door to Hot Toys and speak with them often?

They emailed you alone and told you they didn't care what people are saying about the figure all over the net?

Please, enlighten all of us as to how you came by this ABSOLUTE knowledge of how Hot Toys conducts their business.
Show us your imperical proof that the DIDN'T listen to what the fans said.

Put up or shut up...as they say...
