Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

i'm not an art collector and i don't pay premium price for what some sculptor thinks the alien kinda looks like.
you might be better off sticking to the mcfarlane figure if all you care about is representations.
and i don't see how my saying this figure doesn't look like the alien in the movie is an opinion.
there's plenty of detailed photographic evidence here that clearly shows it isn't accurate. that's a fact.

oh, so we're dealing with absolutes now, are we? (i'm sure u'll say you're not, to slither out of the corner). to u, it's total accuracy to the source material or nothing at all. if that's the case, then u will probably continue to be disappointed no matter what. as for me, i'm not as pre-occupied with absolute perfection. next, u might argue that the ht alien isn't even 60% or 70% accurate, let alone 100%. but that's precisely my point which u simply don't get. u said it "doesn't look like the alien". that's opinion, not fact. the fact is it DOES look like the alien. does it look 100% identical to the on-set alien suit? of course not, i never disputed that. but is there any doubt in any (rational) person's mind when they look at this figure that they will see the alien from the movie? it's not rocket science. the answer is yes, of course.

it's a little presumptious for u to be telling me to stick to the macfarlane figure. the ht alien is a much better representation of the alien than macfarlane's. when i look at the ht figure, it strongly evokes the alien from the movie, much more so than macfarlane's.

anyway, i did agree that ht's figure has issues. just that those issues are not severe enough to turn me off. it turns u off. and that's fine. i get it. but the fact that others find it a pretty good "representation" puzzles the heck outta u. u don't get it. and that's fine by me. just don't take us to task for it.

"put up, or shut up" is an idiom. a very well-known one at that. nobody actually told you to shut up.
you're really gonna get offended by that? am i the one who needs to "ease up"?
also, i'm not really gonna eat my hat. that's a phrase. an idiom. it's not literal.

anyway, the changes HT made had nothing to do with this forum. or any forum.
they get orders to make expensive changes in new products from the top down. not from american message boards.
HT is probably smart enough to not correlate opinions on the internet to actual sales.

thanks for the english language lesson, but i'm just fine. i know what an idiom is. i also know how they're used. u used them in the context of telling me to provide "evidence" or shut up. in that sense, it's really not necessary. and do note that my tone was less than serious, hence the joker quote, and the nonsensical advice about not eating your hat. it wasn't literal.

plus, as sabres said, u do not have any evidence yourself that ht does not listen to its fans or forummers here. i'd like to think that the changes they made AFTER the folks here had voiced out their dissatisfaction of the angry-looking skull eyes, is proof of sorts.

i'd like to think that the changes they made AFTER the folks here had voiced out their dissatisfaction of the angry-looking skull eyes, is proof of sorts.

Unfortunately that was pretty much the least important change they could have made in my book since its arguable the skull eyes weren't even visible at all in the film. The mouth however very much was and the mouth is still wrong on this figure. Still haven't ordered it, I might if in-hand pics impress me and its still available.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

Yeah, I'm not going to pre-order this one.
I'm sure it'll be easily available later on, and I'm waiting to see in-hand pics. Not because I think much will change, but because I do want to know how sturdy and poseable it will be.

well, i'll agree completely with u on this one. the mouth is indeed inaccurate compared to the on-set shots of giger's alien design.

but to me, i don't find it a niggling thorn in my side. or an insult to me as a "alien"/h.r. giger fan. or anything as offensive/repulsive as some folks here make it out to be. i can live with the inaccuracy. again, i'm looking at the figure on the whole. and on the whole, the ht alien looks pretty good to me.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

I kinda feel the same. Overall yes it clearly does look like the alien - some people are a bit extreme in their suggestions that it looks 'nothing' like the film creature. However the mouth is so emphasised in the film - its hugely important. 'Passable' isn't enough when I already have a few figures that get it just 'passable' - why would I need another? If money was no object sure I'd order it right now but...I don't feel a pressing need where I would if it had been more accurate.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

then we're pretty much on the same page, my friend.

the difference for me is, the only alien figure i have in my collection is the old 8" macfarlane alien resurrection one. and that's clearly not adequate.

so i'm looking forward to owning a larger scale---and considerably more high-quality--- alien figure from the film that started it all. the first film's alien design is still the best. clean, elegant, yet so very lethal-looking.

Were on the same page, except with that. I believe that the AL()ENS Queen was the best by 1% better than the Giger design.:D

Let Live and let Die.....

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

people are still whining about this?
as HT always show their production long before selling it, they should know it will be discussed.
as well as you personally.
i'd like to think that the changes they made AFTER the folks here had voiced out their dissatisfaction of the angry-looking skull eyes, is proof of sorts.
but they didn't change anything important.
just another false variant was made.

As for the Hot Toys Alien, personally I'm more interested in new pics of the Revoltech Alien...

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

Ooooohh! Awesome shot there DSD. The Medi Alien is the best figure thus far in my book. Although I love the NECA as well. As for Hot Toys, I've pre-ordered it. It may not be movie accurate, but they have made changes and there's still time for more (fingers crossed).

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

I'm still waiting for someone braver than me to re-paint the Medi-alien...

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

If I could get another one for around £50, I'd gladly send it to someone to re-paint.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

hmm i actually really do like that medicom version, im just trying very hard not to spend my money on it. So please no more good pictures of that figure, thanks in advance :lol

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

They had laser guns and pressure suits... Shoot the Alien and patch the holes in the ship... :D

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

Yep, I think the Medicom Alien is a fantastic figure.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

It looks way too clean to me, and it's a shame about the figures height... I went with the 22" 'frosty' domed Neca figure because of those factors.

And so the never ending circle that is this thread goes around again. :)

But seriously, that's why I'd love to see a re-paint. All the detail is there in the sculpt, it just needs more texture in the paint apps.

Re: UPDATED! Hot Toys - MMS 106 - Alien - BIG CHAP collectible figure

We should get all that with the Hot Toys figure.
