The only thing keeping me from breaking down and ordering this... is the fact I'd much rather have a HT Bespin Han on my shelf instead.

The Sideshow version pieced together from the Hoth Han is a decent enough placeholder, but obviously not at the level it could be.

The Ferrari analogy is not a good one. If every Ferrari is red, and you need to own a Ferrari (best), you get a red one. If you must have a yellow Ferrari (better to you paint), you get it repainted on your dime. If the original red paint is "mediocre" in your opinion, you can choose not to buy. You aren't owed a yellow Ferrari because that's what you want. And it doesn't make it less of a Ferrari because it's only red

This is a Han Solo figure, not a Harrison Ford figure. And you know what, it looks exactly like Han Solo. Just like I can tell every 12 inch and 3 3/4 Kenner/Hasbro figure I've ever owned is Han Solo, despite none of them looking like Harrison Ford. Heck my Kenner figure has inaccurate black pants and I still know who it is. Go pick out Ford in your 1977 Marvel comic. Bet you can't. I'll bet you can find Han Solo though.

At the end of the day this figure is a piece of artwork, which is subjective. But for those collecting SW 1/6, if the only thing holding you back from having one of the top 3 or 4 characters in the movie is the difference between this sculpt painted as it is and an exact mini-me head of Harrison Ford...I feel bad for you guys. No one is saying the pants, vest, shirt, belts, guns, etc are low quality or off or anything, just the head doesn't look exactly like the actor. That's about as silly as not getting that red Ferrari. If it's not worth your money though, which it fine, don't use your justifications for not spending it to downplay something a majority of folks are quite pleased with. And no, this isn't (all :) ) aimed at you weaponslayer, just in general to the drama queens that have to repeatedly state what a fail this is because of 90% Ford, not 100% Ford.

I think you misunderstood my metaphor Darth_IMPoor, I'm not saying you buy a red Ferrari and want to paint it yellow, I'm saying that bad paint apps on a good sculpt is like buying a red Ferrari with a bad red paint job, of course I wouldn't get it (if I had the money) and that's why I cancelled my SSC Hoth Han preorder.

What I find wrong is that a company charging NRD's and the same price point as Hot Toys but doesn't deliver the same quality in the end result is very frustrating. When SSC shows awesome prototype pics, takes preorders, charges NRD's and takes reward points (which you loose if you cancel), and then utterly fails in the end result you feel scammed as a consumer because you can't cancel without taking a hit. Now you might say, always wait to get in hand pics, but when there's a very tempting exclusive that might sell out there's no choice but to jump on the wagon or risk missing it or paying ridiculous second market prices.

Regarding the character likeness vs actor likeness, I understand you and that's one of the reasons why I actually liked the Hot Toys Han Solo Prototype, because it had the Solo flare. The V2 head sculpt does have a better Ford likeness but lost a lot of the attitude with its neutral expression, but I still think its an awesome figure and I'm super excited to purchase it.

...Agree with Wor Gor. Tan Solo is great sculpt that has been obliterated by the eye treatment.
Kinda like putting a Chevy logo on the grille of a Mustang.

It never fails to amaze me how utterly subjective human recognition of likeness is. Many of you are so passionate about the "obvious" superiority of the HT sculpt over other examples. To me, if we're talking bare bones sculpting (not the subtleties that come in at the paint app stage), the Hoth SS Han by Trevor blows the HT sculpt away. It is Ford from every angle.

Don't get me wrong, I was very pleased with the HT v2 alterations, it captures Ford well if you work with it with some deliberance, and the general HT brilliance when it comes down to depth of sculpt and sharpness of detail likely make the HT ANH Han the one to own, but I'm scratching my head when reading comments like the SS sculpt is tragic, or should be banned from this thread. I think all you're seeing is the paint. I agree that the eye treatment on Hoth is particularly sub-par, but all that sculpt needs is a little love. I daresay if you handed the SS Hoth sculpt to JC Hong to paint and finish, THAT would be the figure we'd all be talking about and saving up for.

Do you have the HT solo figure in hand? And can you show a side by side comparison with SS sculpt? What amazes me and is frankly laughable is that you and a few others can make daft statements/comparisons based on a few pics and not actually have the HT figure in hand. If you think that SS sculpt looks like ford/solo then more power to you. For me it looks awful and as with the older SS human sculpts no repaint is going to save it.

No one is debating whether the SSC sculpt is poor or not. It's the fact that the final production piece is below par. Even with a whole repainted face, you'd still have the issues with the eyes.
If you walked into a store and found these two Han figures standing next to each other, which one are you most likely to buy? If you're not into customising at all, I think the HT Han will be chosen.

It's too bad for Grove. He's a great sculptor, but his sculpts are never painted well by the companies he mainly works for.

How many of us have looked at a photo of ourselves and been disappointed with how the photo turned out? The reason is that it's a static snap-shot of that moment in time. Your representation in that photo is based on lighting, whether you had a late night the night before, mood, whatever. There are good photos and bad photos. How we view a portrait of someone changes when we see a video of someone. Rather than a snapshot, we see how the features on their face work, how they smile and act in certain situations and these elements reinforce in our minds how we view or remember - and know - that person.

When we view the movies which are not just one frame, some remember Harrison Ford's smirk. The way he acts in certain situations. And it's a tough job for a sculptor to select one moment in time to represent a character. A smirk would be great! But when there is only one headsculpt being produced, would it be appropriate to pose a Han Solo figure with a smirk battling stormtroopers? I don't know, probably not, but maybe you get the point I'm trying to make.

All I know is, and this is my own opinion, when I see the HT sculpt, sure it's a static pose, but I can see Harrison Ford as Han Solo at that age in A New Hope.
And I love it. But out of the box, sculpt, paint, eye problems whatever, all I see with the SSC version is some guy who is an Eskimo. I think it's unfortunate with the paint and the eyes. But I'm happy for people who are pleased with it and I'm really interested to see what people can do with it. Likewise, I'm interested to see how the SSC Indy comes out. The initial sculpt looks stunning. I see Harrison and I have it on PO, and I hope SSC knocks it out of the park. I never saw the initial sculpt for Hoth Han, before all the in-production images. I'd be interested in seeing it.

Such a good post.

Well thought out, positive, and productive.

Unlike 68% of the whiny annoying posts plaguing most topics that are utter garbage and waste of space (including this one).

All junk food and no nutrition. Some are so bad, would just qualify as junk.

Sideshow will NEVER make figures as good as HT's Han Solo and Chewie. They just can't do it. They had over 10 years to make Chewbacca but instead always chose the cheapest and easiest routes to cashing in from the SW license by LITERALLY making CLONES! And it's terrible that they take a cash advance for their products and ALWAYS deliver something that's worse than advertised. ALWAYS. Some of you collectors are like a battered spouse that can't leave an abusive relationship. That X-Wing Luke and the Temple Indy are NOT going to look like the protos. Don't kid yourself!

I don't care about SS's protos or raw sculpts or whatever. It's all about what comes out of the box after you pay $200. That Hoth Han looks like some kind of $25 bootleg SW marionette you'd buy out of the back of a van in TJ. Hot Toy's Han is AWESOME. It's BETTER than the prototype!

THANK YOU Hot Toys for these amazing figures. THANK YOU for always advancing your craft and pushing yourselves to make your already excellent figures even better! I can't wait for Vader, Ben, Leia, Luke and the rest! MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU, HOT TOYS!

I think you misunderstood my metaphor Darth_IMPoor, I'm not saying you buy a red Ferrari and want to paint it yellow,

Just for info, AFAIK Ferraris come in four colors: white, red, yellow and black.

This is a Han Solo figure, not a Harrison Ford figure. And you know what, it looks exactly like Han Solo.

Well, when you put your glasses on maybe....

The deal isn't that customizing is laughable, it's just that at this price point we shouldn't have to do massive plastic surgery to the figure to get something decent. I want something really good straight out of the box and if you're willing to go the extra mile more power to you.

People forget sometimes these figures are the Ferrari of toys, if I bought a Ferrari I wouldn't be happy with having to repaint it upon purchase because the original paint job was mediocre.

You clearly never saw the thousands of man-hours that were poured into the "Ferrari" of Indiana Jones collectibles known as the $250 HT Indy sculpt.

Come on! Ford never looked like some bloated eskimo in 1980 :wink1:

But you did say he looked like some Alaskan serial killer, didn't you?:wink1:

Finally took the time to open my Han. Had him boxed up for over a week, didn't bother opening. Wow... It's really nice. Been trying to make Chewie look better, but Han in person is stunning.

Took a few pics to share.

I'm in Cowboys and Aliens. Daniel Craig is my wookie b--ch now !!!

This Han looks great. At first the prototype looked weird but now that looks sick.

Hi, everybody,

Am I alone to notice Han has a smiling face displayed in the Falcon?

May be HT will release it for Stormtrooper Han?
