I used a micro flathead screwdriver, very carefully slid it under the back buckle and gently pried it until it came undone.

After seeing this photo it seems that even the messed up boots are kinda correct tmp_16124-IMG_20151124_195706-816231349.jpg

Sorry for double photo, don't know how it happened and probably couldn't do it again if I tried lol

Hi all,
My first post on the forums :)
I just got Han and Chewie a few days ago and discovered the new sculpt for Hans head today on these forums. I have got to say that I think Chewie is spot on to me at least, but Han.. ohh man... what were they thinking.
These two cost me a small fortune as they do, and so i have placed a nice request into Hot Toys to see if they will allow me to send my current Han Solo head in and upgrade it to what really should have been the initial release. I was wondering if anyone else had done the same?.
I almost bought the upgraded head on Ebay for a stupid amount of money today before I started doing some homework and ended up here. Anyways, these HT figures rock ... I MUST get the new Darth Vader!!!... hehe ... and with any luck I might be able to get Peter Mayhew to sign the bottom of Chewie's stand this weekend at Supernova in Brisbane!!.. :D Man can't wait to meet him.
Great forums here, I think I'll spend quite some time here... cheers all.!

Hmmm,
Well it didn't take long to get a reply...
.....the below from hot toys...

Hello,

Thanks for your support to Hot Toys.

Please kindly note that after-sales service will only be provided for first-hand purchase via official channels.

After-sales service is not applicable for purchase on online auction sites (e.g. eBay, Yahoo) and unofficial channels.

For the next time, we highly recommend that can purchase from our official dealer that after-sales service can be guaranteed

.... ok.. well I guess that's a big no for an exchange on the headsculpt then. I am really in two minds here. I can see their point.."buy from us direct or we wont help you"... so ... I say unto you :p ....anyone that bought the Han Solo figure that has the original hopeless sculpt ... and that bought it from an "Official" Hot toys outlet, should email their customer service and ask for the upgrade... as it seems they COULD have been sorted me out without any problems if that had have been my case. And guys I would too. I mean the new sculpt looks WAAAAAAY better than the "Who's that guy" prototype.
Out of curiosity, if anyone does have success let us know.

There is two sculpts for the Han figure... one the "Prototype" the other is the newer one. Both were released. Basically the Prototype is nothing like Harrison Ford where the new one is way better.
If you scroll up YankeesFanboy posted a pic of the new one.... and King Darkness replied below with the old prototype... BIG difference. :( I'm more than a little peeved that Hot Toys won't exchange mine for what should have been the initial release... @#@@#$ :p

I've never heard of Hot Toys, or any other commercial producer of collectibles like this for that matter, actually releasing prototypes with the production run when products like this go to market. With hand painted figures of this quality, you may notice subtle differences from figure to figure, or factory batch to factory batch (like what we seem to be seeing on the Chewbacca run where later produced figures appear to have at least some lighter face fur - but tha most likely has to do with the differences in the synthetic fur runs which may have been supplied by a third party, who knows)

I think it's much more likely that what you're responding to is the superior photography routinely exhibited by the incredibly talented members of this board as they display their handiwork. Lighting and angel can make a HUGE difference on this figure in terms of the likeness to Ford. And even with this noted, some here LOVE the HT Han, and others think he's a clear "miss" on the head sculpt.

But, we could clear this all up in seconds if you post a few pics of your piece. We'll be happy to tell you what you've got.

BTW, FYI, the pics on the previous page that you referenced are BOTH/ALL production head sculpts. Neither is the proto. Just different angles and lighting of the production piece.

By definition, a prototype will be, in all but the rarest occasions, a single piece, maybe two or three tops if they are being circulated for license approval, promotional photography, or are showing up at various conventions or shows ahead of actual production. If you actually had a prototype figure, or a JC Hong paint master, you would want to hold on to that like gold! But something tells me you don't.

Welcome aboard! We think you'll enjoy the ride.

....Uhhhhh........yes!

Hi guys, if you haven't seen it..

https://www.google.com.au/imgres?im...d=0ahUKEwjg0ofI4K_JAhUDIKYKHfNrAt8QMwg3KBQwFA

Pretty obvious enhancement on the new one... subtle enough to perhaps not notice at a glance. But a major improvement on the original.
These are on Ebay for sale now by some guy in Hong Kong, at crazy prices. I like to have my figures as accurate as possible and might pay up to get him looking as he should have in the first place. I am currently waiting for ANOTHER version off Ebay to try and paint myself in the meantime.
Also just a heads up... you can buy an exact copy of Obi-Wan's Hot Toys head sculpt off Ebay for $30 bucks.... I will be putting him together one piece at a time, it's really worth it for him as you really only need the clothing and some hands. Now thats a cheap Obi Wan...Exactly the same head and paint job as the one in the local store here for $339 dollars :D

Hope this helps someone.
Cheers

Read, or re-read my full post a bit slower this time, Phodis, drinking in the information were trying to impart to you. If you reject it, then post your "prototype" figure. We will give you an honest evaluation of what you have in hand. Again, if someone at HT tripped and accidentally dropped a proto into your shipper box (yours and yours alone), then if I were you, I'd go into town next week and see about renting a safe deposit box...

Also, try to keep in mind who your audience is when you post your thoughts and messages. We've got five hundred and seventy-five pages and counting on this figure. I'd have to say that it's a bit presumptuous on your part to be flippant and dismissive of what were telling you. That photo you posted of the side by side of the proto and the JC Hong improved paint master is as familiar to every member of this thread as any other image distributed of HT Han. It's old news.

Yes, there was a prototype of ANH Han. The proto was used in all the publicity materials produced for the piece at the announcement of the figure. If you go to the HT home page you'll still see shots of the original prototype in all of the online pictures being used to promote the figure. At some point subsequent to the production of the proto, HT came in and produced a second more accurate head sculpt for ANH Han. This was long before ANY of the customer ready product shipped. Everyone of us who opens the ANH Han box from HT, SS, or our Local shops, whether sold as a single, or in the two-pack with Chewie, is getting the exact same production sculpt for our Han Solo figures. Period, end of story... Unless something unheard of happened to befall just you.

So let's see it. You linked the proto/production example nicely, so you're aware of how to get images in the forum. Please post a shot or two of your ANH Han. We are all intimately familiar with EVERY HT produced shot of the prototype, and we've seen the set up at all the various shows at which the proto was displayed (in fact you will find nearly all of them posted right here in the prior pages of this thread). I promise you, I'll be the first to offer a full throated apology if it turns out I'm wrong and you really did come away with an honest to goodness never before seen proto.

And while you're getting that picture ready, you might want to go back a few hundred pages and benefit from the knowledge base you've tapped into here. I think you're in for a treat if you love this stuff like we do. And as a possible side effect, you might learn something new.

Sorry to confuse everyone apparently.. my point....

Google Image Result for attachment.php%3Fattachmentid%3D191104%26d%3D1434480943

two head sculpts...
mine..like I imagine 99% of everyone else's is the one on the left.
My big mistake... I called it the !PROTOTYPE! ....as to me it looks like there first attempt. Ok my fault, I should have called it ~Version 1~ maybe...or the standard.. the release whatever you call it it's way off. Now this said, I didn't mean to offend anyone... or make them think I had the magical initial sculpt that no-one else has, I never meant that.

Simply put... the second sculpt is the one I want. I have seen it on ebay. They are available for stupid prices. I have seen youtube videos featuring this figure with this head sculpt. There are photos on google. These are soo much better and am basically peeved that HT won't upgrade it seeing how much it cost. Thats all.

Didn't mean to offend. Didn't want to alienate myself or be thought of as some trolling little pleb. Sorry to anyone that took it the wrong way.
