Anyone looking for the two pack at retail can try hitting up Dallas Vintage Toys. They had at least one more at retail after I bought mine this weekend.

Well, one thing I think HT heard loud and clear this year is that the two-pack format is a winner. They are here to stay. With that in mind, if they produce a TFA Chewie, it's almost certainly going to be packaged with TFA Han.

Just one more and I'll leave you alone for a bit. Whenever I hit on an angle or lighting that seems to really serve this sculpt I have a hard time not sharing (even when the photo is low quality). In short, I have no inner photographic filter...

Hot Toys is taking a loss on every Chewie they sell. Its an engineering nightmare. They only produced this one because of the "how could they not?" proposition. There will be no more Chewies. This is Chewie. If you don't have this Chewie, you won't have Chewie.

I have spoken.

First, sunk R&D costs are typically recovered on the back-end. Meaning, if designing the first Chewbacca costs more than you can make on the selling the first batch ... you defray that cost by releasing a half-dozen more versions. You don't have to do the R&D twice, so you make more profit per sale on subsequent releases. Your R&D argument actually would mean they would release as many as they possibly could using the same research costs they've already spent. If they'll sell, they'll make more (if they don't sell, that's another story).

Second ... the margins on these figures are insane. Even with R&D and design man-hours. People are paying upwards $300 for less than $5 worth of plastic, rubber and fabric. The profit margins on Chewbacca may not be as high as Iron Man Repaint 26, but we're still probably talking about 25% margins rather than 50% margins. I'd be shocked if they were losing money on Chewbacca.

If they were going to lose money, they wouldn't've made it. Or they would've raised the price. This isn't a charity. HT has been very comfortable not releasing "how could they not?" figures in the past -- The Lone Ranger, the rest of the Watchmen, etc. Business is business. If they can't make money on it, they don't care what you want them to make.

You can tell how bad this likeness is that no one on eBay is bother to sell a "custom" version of it, like happens with pretty much every other Hot Toys release.

It will be a different Chewie- the much lighter hair sections and face of TFA time period...so this one will be quite unique!

OR, and I'm just spit balling here, you could trust your EYES and see how good the sculpt is in hand if you care to. I'm also missing the logic that the sculpt must be bad if no one is offering alternatives on the auction sites. But I tend to think logically.

I own this figure. I think it is a very lifelike head, but it is quite poor as a likeness of Harrison Ford.

I was being sarcastic in the sense that "custom" heads on eBay are frequently pirated copies of the Hot Toys head. It really is unusual for a head to not get copied and it means this head is deemed to be so off people are unlikely to want to buy it.

They're probably just playing it safe and checking their inventory before declaring it sold out.

What is your explanation on the recasted Obi-Wan head then? That one's not great, and it was recasted.

There's no recasted ANH Luke heads either. I don't see any recasted Keaton Bruce Waynes either, no Thanos, no Pepper Potts. . . nothing. I really haven't seen much in the way of new HT recasts, period. I really doubt that the lack of a Han recast reflects upon the recast makers feelings about the strength of the likeness in any way shape or form. Perhaps the more logical explanation is that maybe Hot Toys has found a way to limit the recasts?
