Somehow it doesn't read as the sum of its parts.

These pics right here really tell a lot. It is not Alec. I really do not care what anyone says, it is clearly two different people there that share similar facial traits.

I am gonna chalk this release up to a representation of the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi and not a representation of the great actor that played him, Sir Alec Guinness.

I think he looks pretty good. But...that lightsaber is stuck to his hand?

Edit: In that straight on pic he kind of looks asian o_O

While not 100% Alec, clearly lens distortion isn't a factor here...100% true product depiction. Tell that to naysayers who bought chewy after release.

LOL...actually, I forgot Boba Fett! Again:

  1. Leia - near perfect.
  2. Luke (ANH) - too heroic but captures him.
  3. Luke DX07 - excellent likeness, too bad it's so scene specific.
  4. Chewbacca - once futzed, amazing, but much better for ESB or ROTJ than ANH. There is nothing like him.
Boba Fett - ranked with Chewbacca. I'd go higher but there are some weird things going on with his proportions in the proto.
  5. Han Solo - much like Luke, sculpt is slightly generic but it captures him nonetheless.
  6. Sandtrooper - excellent representation; raised brow and longer frown appear to compensate for other helmet inaccuracies.
  7. Darth Vader - unmistakably the Dark Lord. Appears to be missing the tells for ANH.
  8. Stormtrooper/Shadowtrooper - the finish, the feel, the overall representation is stunning. But after living with the sculpt for months, it has issues.
  9. Obi Wan - dependent on angles and lighting. Overall quality carries it.
  10. Luke DX07 regular - very idealized and square jawed, but the overall quality carries it.
  11. Spacetrooper - same as Stormtrooper, but backpack appears to be totally inaccurate.

Let's stop and take a look at that. There are THIRTEEN individual Original Trilogy figures made by Hot Toys right now. Fourteen if you count Shorttrooper.

Plus four announced Sequel Trilogy figures.

Plus three quarter scale OT figures.

And a Falcon cockpit.

Careful what you wish for, everyone.

Bad thing is I will order it all. With some multiples too.

Agree. Similar but too different for me. Bad angle I guess. Still prefer my ssc version. That's why I did not upgrade yet. Will wait for more in hand pics.

I'm no naysayer and I AM buying this figure but it's clear they took artistic license with his visage. The eyes are too narrow and the eyebrows too dark. In fact, both his eyebrows and parts of his beard are too dark. Ben's facial hair was not gray and white, it had color in it (mostly blonde). I had a custom made and made sure it had the multi-color beard as I feel it's essential to Ben's look.

It's a older Leonidas if he had survived.

clearly lens distortion isn't a factor here....

Alright, let's take lens distortion completely out of the equation for you.

This is the best presentation I could find of the new pics, with theatrical lighting and everything...

My Kenobi COMP2 9-8-15 copy.jpg

All the parts are there, it just doesn't come together the right way.

It's generally the eyes. The majority of any likeness comes straight from the eyes and it's what gives that sense of "It looks kinda off" when you look at a sculpt.

The expression of the eyes, it looking dull or dead, etc. The eye expression on Hot Toys looks a bit too harsh and doesn't carry that wise and gentle look that Alec did throughout the entire movie.

Like in this comparison you can feel the difference in tone just from the eyes.

It's what I think is off with the Han sculpt as well. The eyes just don't scream Harrison Ford but the overall sculpt is good. Same goes for this one.

I'd have to go back and re-watch ANH, but I think Guiness was very "open" throughout the film. Clint Eastwood is hard, he squints, glares, narrows his eyes.

Unless I'm misremembering (entirely possible) Guiness always had wide open eyes, especially in combat. There was no glare or steely gaze, and the only time his eyes were even sleepy that I remember, was at the Mos Eisley roadblock when he nonchalantly, lazily mind-tricked the stormtroopers.

He also often had some mischief which could be seen at the corners of his mouth. This figure is an old samurai through and through.

You can put a Daredevil sock over the top of his head and his eyes and what's left would still SCREAM "wrong" - the mouth and upper lip are all kinds of wrong. Don't get me started on that beard. At the end of the day it's just not the same person at all. And that's OK. For people who don't care. ;)

At some point we'll see people's actual in hand figure and get a better idea how this looks at the distance most of us will be seeing it at.

If I get this, it's definitely a "hood up" pose. (read: bag face)

After looking at pics from facebook, I think the head sculpt is a bit off. I personally prefer everything else on this to the SSC one except the head. I think HT really missed it with this one. I'm still keeping my order, but I'm really hoping I can either find a SSC head or somebody commissions one. I think even repainting the beard and hair just won't be enough to truly get it spot on. With that said, it's still a good representation of the character, but I'd prefer the actor as well.

IN this comparison can see needs yellow in the beard and needs bigger forehead and feel's like artist got a bit carried away on beard sculpting. I still like the headsculpt. The one pic is slightly looking down and other off to side. I'm happy or fine with figure just worry about lightsaber arm getting loose after a while or breakage on taking out yes i know warm up 1st before removing. I do see people modding n painting beard n making skin tanner sweat more. We can have this conversation for hours on hate or love or change's. Its very understandable we been waiting for years decades for these grails. I'm glad im not too picky and happy with him and can just sit back n enjoy when arrive's.
