I blocked everything out except the face in this pic, showed it to a workmate and asked who he thought it was. Without hesitation he said Ben Kenobi.

I like the sculpt and think it's just as good of a representation as SS's is but without the hint of caricature.

Yeah, coco, but did you happen to catch this?

"The Force will be with you. Always." – Obi-Wan Kenobi

You really have to dig for this nugget of gold.

Not sure why people are judging this again. In hand it will look better. Same people will wait for other people's pics, say it looks is better, wait closer to SS release, see everyone likes it better now than when it releases in HK and will sellout. Then people will complain they waited too long and SS will be waitlisting it.

If you're a fan of Obi and want it, buy it. I say Alec all day long in this, is it perfect? No, no sculpt ever will be to some but we should expect HT and Disney to not drop the ball on SW. I feel every facial sculpt will have the same topic and criticisms.
Not sure why people are judging the final product photos? Also, you're suggesting that if I want this, I should buy it? :lol

You said it. One fleeting glance at the FB pages and a quick remark and I was out of there. All the usual - Sideshow---->> doll, looks nothing like him. Hot Toy--->>> human being in 1/6, will have sex with.

And there is noooo discourse at all.[...]

Sometimes I think people confuse their subjective love for a figure with quantifiable criteria.

I love every one of the Hot Toys Star Wars releases, because they are all state-of-the-art, very high quality, recognizable, great representations of beloved characters. But they're filled with flaws either due to mysterious art direction, unforgiving deadlines or the very same Toy Illuminati that shut down Marmit.

If I dare to rank them based on what I've seen so far:

  1. Leia - near perfect.
  2. Luke (ANH) - too heroic but captures him.
  3. Luke DX07 - excellent likeness, too bad it's so scene specific.
  4. Chewbacca - once futzed, amazing, but much better for ESB or ROTJ than ANH. There is nothing like him.
  5. Han Solo - much like Luke, sculpt is slightly generic but it captures him nonetheless.
  6. Sandtrooper - excellent representation; raised brow and longer frown appear to compensate for other helmet inaccuracies.
  7. Darth Vader - unmistakably the Dark Lord. Appears to be missing the tells for ANH.
  8. Stormtrooper/Shadowtrooper - the finish, the feel, the overall representation is stunning. But after living with the sculpt for months, it has issues.
  9. Obi Wan - dependent on angles and lighting. Overall quality carries it.
  10. Luke DX07 regular - very idealized and square jawed, but the overall quality carries it.
  11. Spacetrooper - same as Stormtrooper, but backpack appears to be totally inaccurate.

Bearing in mind I've only had Stormtrooper and DX07 in-hand.

For overall quality, these are the best Star Wars figures ever made, but Sideshow sculpted a better Obi-Wan, and Marmit sculpted better stormtroopers and a better Darth Vader.

Again, I'd be happy to own any one of these, but if I have to critique them, I see issues and its a personal thing which issues you want to live with.

Quality goes a long way. A great interpretation goes a long way, it can render nitpicks and proportional issues inconsequential to one's enjoyment of a figure, but I don't think there have been too many home runs in this line by strictly objective standards.
