It can't be a coincidence.

Come on people is the criticism really that bad? If everyone agreed about everything the thread would die in an instant. A few pictures on release and then nothing. Now we will have countless pages of mostly fun, some with modifications and stuff that might make the figure acceptable (if you're in that camp) or even more perfect (if you're in the other). Enjoy your collectibles and stop caring if someone else thinks it's sith or not. What do you care, it's your collection after all?

is anybody excited for this figure in here anymore? i can't wait for friday, but at this rate i doubt i'll be posting pics in here

I'm still somewhat excited for this. Don't know if I will get it as I own old crazy eyes ********* face Sideshow Ben. I might get that repainted instead, or get the HT and get SSC Ben repainted and enjoy both, it's stil up in the air. Your very pictures could sway me, do your best. :)

Yeah mine is on its way via ems, usually turn up friday when sent weds. I mean don't get me wrong im not blinded because i paid day 1 etc, it has its flaws but its still a fantastic looking figure and a great representation of OBI :dunno . I know its the usual day 1 complaining but its getting a bit old now lol.

well, I know it gets old, but just know I am excited for you about Friday now too. People can nit pick any figure, and I don't want to blame people for this when we pay high end prices because sometimes being really overly critical helps some of us do something a lot of us have trouble doing- saying no to a figure from time to time. Hot Toys does better on some figures than others but they are almost always the best option available. From what I have seen so far I wouldn't say their Ben Kenobi is perfect but it's pretty darn good and it certainly DOES look like Sir Alec Guinness too me. I can understand why some people think the Sideshow sculpt was better but the poor paint app really takes away from it. The Hot Toys sculpt, even if you want to argue that it isn't quite as good, it STILL is clearly Alec Guinness and the paint app makes it far more life like. The Hot Toys body also makes it more life like and likely will be easier to be posed more naturally.

I certainly wouldn't fault anyone for keeping their Sideshow Kenobi and not upgrading to this if they feel it doesn't make enough an improvement to warrant it; especially when their are so many figures out now people may want and most of us have limited budgets. I considered keeping my sideshow Ben and Leia when I preordered HT Luke and Han (&Chewie two pack), but because I am displaying these together I don't think I am going to be able to resist upgrading Ben and Leia to Hot Toys too.

My current display has SSC Ben without his outer cloak giving SSC farmboy Luke his lightsaber. A replica of the lightsaber from ANH is displayed near by. If I change my display around and display Ben by himself perhaps I can keep my Sideshow figure with his outer cloak on, hood up, and with his own lightsaber ignited. But again, the Hot Toys one looks really really good to me, and often the post release jitters everyone fears just before figures like this one starts shipping gets calmed down after people start showing them off in hand. So again, I am looking forward to Friday and seeing some real pictures from actual collectors of this in hand.

Because it's not an upgrade? It's a downgrade, especially for those who already have a repainted head and a figure built on top of a better base body. I already have original 1977/78 Kenner and 1997/98 Hasbro Obi-Wans that feature "unknown bearded man" head sculpts. Don't need another. ;)

I'll have a good mix of Hot Toys and Sideshow SW in my collection and have no problems about skipping releases from either company when they're just not up to snuff.

Friday?

Anyway, I am not jumping to any conclusions about anything until I begin to see some in hand pictures. Comparison shots with Sideshow would be great to see too. I don't let the extreme haters on one end or the extreme Kool-Aid drinkers on the other sway me too much. I like to hear what everyone says, see as many pictures as possible, watch and read some reviews, and then make up my mind if the figure is worth it for me to pick up. So, I hope when people get this in hand they will share and show it off for us all to see.

Man, I bet the Kool Aid company really wishes Jim Jones had shopped differently in 1978.

I was one of the first to call the SSC Han Hoth a random eskimo dude but bought the figure anyway. People buy figures for different reasons - but this "haters gonna hate" thing just stifles opinion and ultimately, makes the thread pretty boring and monotonous. Does anyone really want one type of opinion? Maybe it makes some people uncomfortable to spend $220 on something others say looks nothing like the character, but that's just self doubt.

Nobody here will argue this is HT's finest hour in the likeness department, but as always it's a staggeringly lifelike sculpt, so hard not to like on some level. It's one thing you can always count on with HT. Parts of the costume don't look like they are an upgrade over the SSC version, but it's still a very solid release.

From a certain point of view :wink1: I had SS Kenobi and I have seen many re-paints in various threads yet I consider this an upgrade. Folks enjoy their re-paints but it isn't for everyone.

Like I said, right after mentioning those who seem to be more extreme in being a "hater" or a "Kool-Aid drinker", " I like to hear what everyone says..." I was in no way advocating for less than diverse views, just that I try not to get too caught up in the highs and lows, positives or negatives, views as I explore whether a particular figure is something I want. Neither extreme view bothers me as both comes from a passion and love for these kind of figures. My point is I appreciate the spectrum of it all and try not to get too caught up in one end of it or the other.

I'm happy with how this figure has turned out. I like repaints, SSC version or whatever, but don't see a reason on this figure and the stock version looks great.

If someone has upgraded their Sideshow Ben with a custom repaint and a new body already maybe the HT figure isn't an upgrade over that, but I guess that would depend on how good each individual custom was and personal taste. I have already said that I think the sideshow sculpt could be argued as a better likeness not counting the poor paint apps, but that doesn't mean the Hot Toys one looks like just a generic old guy, but I understand that some people feel it does. I think for collectors who don't feel comfortable going the custom route for whatever reason this Hot Toys version could be seen as an upgrade for a lot of people when compared to the SSC version right out of the box, but clearly it isn't for everyone. That's okay, everyone has to make that choice for themselves.

That's the one right there. For some there's no drive to purchase something and then add more money into it to improve it. I would do some quick and easy fixes myself, like filling in Han Solo's boots with padding to improve their look, but I'm not up to anything too far past that. So, out of the box, this is the best Kenobi. On the same hand, I wouldn't argue that this looks better than the SS head sculpt repainted. It clearly doesn't.

I've only bought one SS figure in my life, which was the recent Batman. Unfortunately I don't know if I'll ever buy another one. For the cost the quality just wasn't there. The body, especially, was a weak point. It could hardly hold a pose with its weak joints. So knowing that I would have to not only have the head repainted on SS Ben, but also would have to replace the body and probably the light saber as well is too much of a money and time investment for me. I also don't think his clothing looks as good as the HT version so I would probably need to replace those as well.

:lol

Okay don't.

Just remember, the complaints are not for the photography.... it is for the figure. Not like you are gonna get attacked for purchasing it.... I think we all would like to see pics from a fellow freak....

I'm stoked for this figure! Glad I sold my SS figure a long time ago, needed an Obi Wan again and this will fill that void. I get Han and Chewy today too!

Always happy to check out your pics, Stealth. Your photos have convinced me to keep pre-orders before after initial pics weren't so hot. :duff

I'm sure lots of people are still on the fence with this one or are excited to get Kenobi, so plenty of people will appreciate your pics. Hoping to see him posed with your Tusken Raider!

Someone let me know when this ships from SSC so I can start looking at the couple of loose parts I'm interested in.

WRT to photos, I haven't seen too many photos that make HT's stock DX-05 look much better than the ones I've taken, but even if the magic helps the likeness, there's no way to argue that the sculpt looks like Ford. This sculpt is not Alec Guinness. You can like the sculpt all you want, love the figure, but it doesn't change the very simple fact the likeness isn't there. This isn't opinion. If someone sees something that's not there, no one else can change that, but the rose-colored image you see doesn't change reality. If anyone is so inclined, map any photo of the real actor onto any photo of this sculpt to see the stark dissimilarities.

If you want to see dozens of in-hand photos, they're being posted to FB constantly.
