Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

Well I ordered the two pack last night through Sideshow and the NRD will process soon. No turning back for me now! Debating a second Batman only so I can display both the regular cowl and torn cowl.
better order the two pack then

I assume that same rationale is why they never made Elias from Platoon. Still, from a collector POV a real shame to leave a line just one character short of completion.

It's never just one character though. There's always just one more, or one more that someone wants.

And yes that's part of it.

What's the point of throwing money at something you know won't sell? If they kept doing that then collectors wouldn't get anything becuase they would go broke eventually and out of business.

True, some people out there have weird character wants. But in terms of obvious choices it hardly got moreso than Elias in Platoon, given that they had made Taylor and Barnes - the 3 central characters in that whole story. In fact it was Hot Toys who said they were going to make Lerner, Johnny Depp's character who appeared in maybe 2 scenes in the whole movie and the collector reaction was ''WTF?''

I couldn't help myself but see Ruffalo-Hulk in this Bruce's sculpt :)

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

The glider would have been awesome and the most obvious choice as an accessory. Who knows maybe they just couldn't pull it off given the limitations of the arms but can you imagine what the figure would have looked in a pose fully demonstrating the glider?

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

Honestly, the way the suit is cut, they probably could've just made the arms separate from the rest of the body and it would've looked fine and allowed them to do the glider. I hardly think that it was a matter of "too much R&D," and I can't help but wonder why they wouldn't think this successful, when the DX 09 sold out almost instantly.

The only reason it took so long for the Jokers to sell out is because they overestimated demand (which is totally understandable because Nicholson is a pretty big "get") and the Batmobile pretty much came down to it being so massive that customers were apprehensive about whether or not to buy it, but, even then, both the DX 08 and Batmobile are both sold out, as well, so, make of that what you will.

So much negativity in this thread so let's enjoy some awesome photos

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

I think the negativity is understandable when people have waited three years for something that turns out to be, well, kind of half assed. Returns Batman, for the most part looks good, but the fact that the faceplates are pretty much just modded '89 faceplates puts a damper on things. I mean, I get the whole notion of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," but c'mon, after all this time, they couldn't have included, at least, one new faceplate, just to show people that "hey, we've totally been working on this for three years."

Then, you have the one completely original part, in the Keaton head, and they seemingly **** the bed on that one, too. It almost seems like they're relying on the hype to sell their product, rather than the product itself. Then, there's the lack of a glider, one of the most apparent accessories in Returns, and, like I said, totally understandable that they wouldn't get the warmest reception, possible.

Plus, I think it adds insult to injury when you factor in that literally almost a year has passed between when this was first shown at SDCC and now. It's like "what ****ing part of this says 'we needed another year to finish the figure?'"

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

me: No problem with that. How do we send the form, online or snail mail? If online, how specifically? If snail mail, to which address?

Sideshow Agali: You would just scan the form with the correct documents and send it over to [email protected]

me: OK thanks, Agali, will do. Would you have information as to the availability of the new Batman Returns figure?

Sideshow Agali: We have plenty of those items.

me: Really? Available now? I thought the release was about Dec 2015

Sideshow Agali: They are open for pre-order, but not expected to ship until the end of the year.

me: Oh OK, then I won't be receiving them any earlier.

I already have one two pack on order. Not going to order a second but may get a second Batman only and look for a parted out Keaton sculpt.

I'll just wait for the 1/4 version that HT promised. I believe in HT.

The batmobile doesn't really factor into the way they gauge intrest for figures. The larger items are always going to be limited and higher intrest people targeted. Hot toys knows that the sales of those are not really indicative of figure sales. As for the dx09 batman...I'm only relaying what I was told. That was not a figure I tracked at the time. So I'm not sure how long it took to sell. But what I said and was told was that the "reception" of that figure was negative. If that was bloggers reviews, or lots of returned products, or the distribution/retail dealers complaining I do not know. I didn't ask. But I will and see if I can get a better explanation. But outside of that is the other point...the two suits are very similar in design. And there is a large portion of the collection market that only will have one. So that plays a factor. And this is also a seperate license so the first figure from most new licenses is a gamble. This has a bit of a foot hold due to it being a sequel and all that. But it's still a unique product line as far as licensing and legalities are concerned.

Your idea about having the arms seperate is not bad, but is not as simple as you make it seem. ANY change to the standard buck requires r&d. One that takes the standard body that is already developed (from the 89) is much much much cheaper then a completly new and unique upper torso. One that requires at least two bodies to be included. Then you have to redesign or included a sturdier base. The extra body and design for the non glider. Which is a lot more complicated then reuse of the 89 already tooled and engineered body with a costume and head and then an already engineered Tt body for the Bruce. It's just a huge change. Most people would rather have the batman we are getting at 220 then one with a power pose glider that costs 150 dollars more or a standard that costs 75-100 more. And had they done the glider they would not have done the torn cowl or extra Bruce head (that will look fine when done). Though some of us would love the glider design the risk is to high. I'd buy it. and if this sells well maybe they figure something out. Right now it's to big a risk.

Forbidden planet I'm has the single set at £220 delivered-why does the uk market get so hammered on hot toys? Is it sideshow that collects the extra income?
I always buy direct from Hong Kong-cheaper-and 6 months earlier than released in the U.K.. So how's that math work??

Would you want to share your store in Hong Kong with us? I'd be interested in buying there if it's 6 months earlier.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

They pursued the license because they had the 89 license and with all this loud fan demand they figured it would sell well. But given the reception to the 89 batman things changed. When returns is essentially the same suit or very close in some people's eyes not everyone will buy it.

That said, this is the first figure in an unproven licenses. So costs are always a concern until it proves it can sell. By keeping costs down, I didn't mean keeping them down just because hot toys didn't want to put money into it (they already have tens to hundreds of grand invested) it was keeping costs down to keep the figure price low. To open its availability to a wider group.

As for the tux...you may think the batcave scenes and outfit are the most important, and someone else thinks it's the tux scene. For a compny like hot toys they can't win either way. If they go with a black long sleeve t shirt (essentially the batcave outfit) they went cheap. They do the tux, they went cheap. So it doesn't matter.

To be honest, if I had to choose one look for a Bruce Wayne figure, it would be Bruce in a tux. Not because of the scene in Batman Returns, but because of the party scene in the original 89 Batman. That's always been a very memorable scene for me. The ball scene in BR is also quite good, the dialogue between Selina and Bruce is some of the best in the movie.

Gettin a full Bruce figure for basically $100 is a steal. If you were to kitbash the same thing it would be about $200 (I know because I've been slowly buying up the pieces to do just that). The nice thing about these dolls is that you can put them in any outfit you want. I'm sure someone out there sells something that closely matches your favorite scene. Heck, you can even get a third party head if you don't like the official one.

Dx09 was my first figure and I got it in the summer of 2012. I don't know when it released but I had no problem getting one at that time

As a guy who collects all things Batman, I can tell you how wanted a Bruce in a tux figure is, not just in Hot Toys scale, but any scale. Bruce is always attending fancy parties and fundraisers, and the only figure I can even recall of him in a tux is the Hasbro Batman/Bruce Wayne figure from the late 90s.Bruce Wayne in a tux.JPG
