Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

I really wish the Keaton sculpt came with the bloody cat-claw scratches on it. It'd fit the "unmasking" scene perfectly and would give it a bit more "pop."

I know that it would make it incompatible with the Tuxedo - but it would've been nice to have two Keaton heads at that point. (Or maybe one head with one set, and the other head with the other set - there was a time when a Hot Toys Batman figure came with two heads STANDARD).

Maybe I'll hire a painter to add the claw marks for me...

depending on the final version of the head sculpt ill probably get an extra head off ebay and make a custom.

This one would have been an excellent choice...

Yep and the smile right before he hits the strong man. Really too bad they didn't use those.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

That's actually a really good idea when I think about it. The single Batman offering could have come with the Bruce Wayne head (w/ bloody wounds) and the torn cowl/mask. Then the two-pack set could have been that PLUS you get a clean Bruce Wayne head with his tux. That would have covered everything.

Dunno what the bonus would have been in that case though, if they felt they needed a "bonus".

Also, looking at the specs/product pics, every shot is heavily photoshopped. I wondered why we didn't get any HD photos from Hong Kong like we used to, and now I see why. You can see the pixels and such around the faces and eyes. Like that shot above of the two faceplates, that's literally just a tweaked photo. You can see the blurs and everything. Even the portrait shots of the Bruce Wayne in the tux look modified, especially around his eye balls and hair line. Looking at it closer, even the main, neutral faceplate on Batman in a lot of the photos looks manipulated. Sort of like they slapped on some rosie cheeks and made it jut out more. Weird.

The glider, of course. Of course, you could argue that the Wayne figure, itself, is the bonus, as it isn't available any other way.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

Is there any way to lobby Hot Toys to make this one of the face plates, or is it too late?

Good luck with those, they ain't happening. Dream on. That just looks like all the things we've all speculated about before. I know I've seen those graphic sprites in the past as well.

We were lucky to get this Returns Batman in my opinion. Not to be pessimistic, but I think this two pack will be the last of the Burton Batman stuff. I can't see them ever making another Batman from the older films.

It's a shame now that we are getting figures because HT feels like they have to put them out there to keep some fans happy. Leaves a nasty taste with figures (like the Returns one) that we all love. I feel like the Arkham Batman (not everyone's favourite but still Batman) was simply assembled and sold with a massive sigh of 'couldn't care less' at the HT factory - and I'm worried that's how they feel about this figure.

If it's not Iron Man or Captain America, HT aren't bothered.

How many figures have been teased and then never happened - and why? Because they are not Iron Man. - Cannibal King Jack Sparrow, Prometheus, X-Men Origins, Arkham Joker, 66 Batmobile, The Bat... and how many Avengers figures have been released in the last 18 months alone? I can't keep track of how many times they have repainted the Mark 7 but if people keep buying it...

It's taken how many months? Years? to finally give us specs of Batman Returns and it won't be coming out until Dec/Jan?
Age of Ultron figures were released before the film had even come out.

Arkham City and Marty McFly were sort of kicked out the factory door - 'Thank god they've gone. Finally these collectors will be pacified and now we can get back to producing little iron robots just in different colours'.

I'm not saying every figure from now on should be Batman but there are so many great films they could tap into - all the 80s action films. Problem is, they will never make iconic figures like John McClane or Riggs because the Eastern market have no interest in them. Probably why HT have never made Lord of the Rings. Look how long it's taken for HT to realise - 'hey, Star Wars! There's a fan base there!'.

When Batman Returns is finally released, it will be done so with a cry of 'there it is - shut up about it now. We've got Iron Men to make'.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

Usually everything comes full circle. Surely it is only a matter of time before a business as big as HT is realises or at least sends out feeders, that they could be raking in the dough if they capitalise on releasing certain movie icons that their western customers will buy in a heart beat jut like their customers from the east lap up all the marvel stuff.

I know from my own experience that my Pre-Orders on HT figures has dramatically dropped this last year.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

I am with you, I only want three figs this year and two are batman related. But they can't please everybody, more than anything they have to stick with making somewhat profitable figures, it would be too much to see if they release Batman forever and batman and robin.

The only thing you have to blame is the fans themselves. Sadly, most people have the memory of a goldfish and are foaming at the mouth for whatever the newest thing is (just because it's new).

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

It wasn't too long ago that HT was releasing everything they could for the Nolan Batman trilogy, so Batman has ultimately had it's day in the sun.

In the end HT is a Chinese company and they'll make what is popular for their core buyers in China. Maybe American companies should up their game and get the licenses that the western market are more interested in? We can't really expect one company to produce everyone's 1/6 needs.

When it comes to older films HT clearly feel that there's no hurry because fans have waited decades already, so what's a few more years? But when it comes to Marvel and other Superhero licences, there's more of an urgency to get it out whilst it's still on people's minds. With the rate at which these films are being released, we are already seeing some figures discounted heavily due to poor sales.

Perfect. I too think that's exactly what's happening over at HT and their treatment with franchises that don't star Iron Man. I've made similar points before in regards to the eastern market and their non existent knowledge of things before 2008. We're definitely NEVER gonna get Die Hard, Lethal Weapon if iconic figures such as reeve superman, Keaton batman, robocop are still widely available in Asia today. Hell, IMO, it was miracle we got Marty Mcfly!! I truly think we're lucky we even got them, but like you said, it was just to shut us up.

Before a certain member here jumps down our throats and gets all Leonidas on us...I don't believe we're cursing HT for their treatment of old classic franchises. We're not stupid and can recognize that they ARE old, and it's all about the new shiny $#!t. They are a business after all...

It truly IS a shame this is how it's gonna be for a long while.

To be fair, even with TDK trilogy, it wasn't as obnoxious compared to their marvel brethren. I don't think HT produced a collaborative magazine (MiLK) variant of The Dark Knight. They did with Iron man...a few in fact. I mean WTF was that? Seriously...WTF was that? I remember being told by someone that HC was related or knew the magazines editor or some crap like that. But still, it boggles the mind. Was that item sought after in HK/China? Sure...but...wth? But that just further cements the FACT that Asia has a fetish with robots. That's not racism. It's fact. I'm an American born chinese, and have lived in Guang Zhou China for the past 5 years. Go to any toy store in Asia, you WILL find nothing but gundam, transformers, and now, iron man. Anyway, if got carried away With that...back to the topic.

I agree man... I too wish american companies such as SS would step up their game. Yeah they have improved with their sixth scale products...but I just wish they poured a bit more of their budget in there. They literally could be the HT of America. They have the know how and they have the tools. All that's missing is refinement. That little extra step that can boost the quality of their figures in the sixth scale game. They're kinda setting themselves up as THE company to produce figures from franchises recognized in the US. Like escape from NY, uncharted, Indiana effin jones...and of course...SW. If their production and quality can reach 90% of HT (they're getting there, if vaders anything to go by) then for damn sure they could take on something as complex as Keaton batman.

They just need a little change in their production team, IMO.

Sounds like HT could use some competition and maybe a few guys around here can help make that dream come true...

Hah, I never made that connection before. But of course, it makes perfect sense - Iron Man appeals to the robot obsession in Asia.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

Robocop is pretty much a robot and that line is not popular in Asia. It's not just any robots, for whatever reason they're obsessed with just colourful ones with snarky personalities.

Re: Hot Toys – MMS 293 & 294 Batman Returns: Batman and Bruce Wayne (Keaton) Set

Surely Asia loved Robocop at one time? He's a cool looking cyborg, I would think that would be right up their alley.

Also, along with robots, don't they love Anime and cosplay? I always see those weird little female figures that are like SH figuarts figures that borderline on cartoon pornography. Surely everyone would want a skin tight, latex suited 1/6 Returns Catwoman to pose? Right? Seems like every fetish dream fulfilled AND the unique design seems right in line with their cutesy sensibilities.

Or maybe not.

Yeah but you gotta remember, he's a product of the 80s. Like i said, anything before 2008 wouldn't be a blip on anyone's radar here in China.

Also, he's friggin expensive haha. Yeah people here have money to blow, but they'd rather blow it on things relevant to them..or at least more current.

He is cool looking, but unfortunately, like my reply to a-dev...no one knows who he is. The price point didn't help matters as well. One would think the remake robocop wouldve at least made for decent sales. But if I remember correctly, the movie wasn't released here. If it did, well, that's how much noise it made: no one I knew talked about it.

Robocop was only made to appease those that grew up with it in the 80s: us. English speaking folk.

As for the anime aspect. The whole creepy otaku atmosphere is mostly predominant in Japan. Yeah some in China do buy those creepy and disturbing figurines, but it isn't as bad as it is in Japan.

I predict MGSR's Raiden is gonna sell like hot cakes in China. He has that pure anime look...and he's a friggin robot.

Finally...I'm surprised HT didn't hog up the pacific rim license. That movie did gangbusters in China.
