Eye of the beholder and all of that, but the reason I never even thought about getting earlier Rey figures is because imo the likeness just wasn't there. This one has always looked far better to me. Not debating your appreciation for the TFA likeness over this one, and I understand lots of folks prefer it. Just shows how subjective this hobby is.

No, I would agree with you that with TFA sculpt, the likeness isn’t all there in the face, and that’s the point. Because yet, I still found the likeness to be more there in that sculpt than this sculpt, but that’s just based merely on pictures of this sculpt.

The consensus seems to be that it’s better in hand (as it always is), which is a good thing, and QGF stated that he always had the same sentiments as I did where this sculpt just didn’t really come across well in pictures. Now that he has both TFA and TLJ in hand and said that this sculpt is indeed better in hand, which one he thinks of the two bears the better likeness.

Hopefully we'll get some clearer pics of her Ep IX costume soon. I'm not in love with her TLJ outfit, but if I like it more than the new one I may just decide to get it anyway. As I would still like to have an additional look for her beyond my Resistance one.

I have this sneaking suspicion that her episode ix outfit might be pretty lackluster. At least this one is awesome enough to justify the purchase.

I’ll do my best to answer that question, SS. As of now, I’ve only managed a quick peek at this one in the car after picking her up, and she is back packed away again for now. Likely won’t be until deep into the weekend until I have the opportunity to give her a full evaluation and start taking some pics. But I was encouraged by what I’ve seen so far!

Cool. I won’t be receiving this figure for another couple of months I think being that I have her on flex pay, but nonetheless, am still expecting her. So I’m interested in reading an assessment of how she compares in hand to TFA version. Even seeing some side by side pictures perhaps for a juxtaposition.

When I first saw the proto it immediately looked like the better likeness to me (except for the face being a bit too long in the same way as TLJ Leia and Wasp). But the final production head hasn't looked nearly as good to me, with the expression and dark eyes making her look a bit weird and creepy somehow.

I can see how this would be one of those that looks a lot better in hand though.

I have both and both have good and bad points - neither is particularly better than the other overall. But I still like both.
The TFA sculpt has better detail and a more sophisticated paint app - this one is a little simpler. The TFA sculpt has a young daisy look from certain angles but resembles Keira Knightly more than Ridley. But I do still love the figure and it's costume is also more sophisticated.. TLJ Rey has very stylised eyes and eyebrows, looks great on display but feels like an exaggerated version of daisy. Especially the eyes. And the costume isn't finished quite as well as TFA.

I’ll be taking some later. Then she’s going right back in the box. I’ve got no room to display her. :dunno

My pics are as unpleasant as a dog humping a fence post though. :lol

Do you have TFA Rey as well?

Yeah, and honestly I like the Jedi Training one more. The Ep VII headsculpt actually has the same expression as Return of the Jedi Luke, the mouth and eyebrows are making the same look. To me it looks goofy on Rey, I like the expression on Ep VIII Rey better.

I agree totally.
I think its it’s one of those things where the pics don’t do justice to what you can see in hand. the head sculpt on this one still looks like Daisy, but there’s something missing.
Much like TFA head.
Although I do reckon that head has loads of Daisy in it. It still has its flaws. But I see her in it every time I look at mine.

So in hand you think TLJ one is a better likeness?

Honestly, to me, they are both equally off, but I think the last cheetos Rey looks waaay better in hand. Photos really can't capture the subtle things you notice looking at the actual figure, as Rorywan and Username are saying. If you're on the fence about Ep VIII Rey, I'd say buy her, I'm glad to have her myself. No regerts.
