I know that the Dark Knight hype turned a lot of people off to the boards what with all the over the top, Ledger mania and all that that entailed. People acted like that movie was the reason for their existence, and more casual moviegoers would look at people getting so worked up about all of it and just shake their heads.

I'm sorry if Fabio really got that upset about things because of a few nuts :D I don't let that stuff get to me.

I thought HT sculpts were painted by hand. No?

They say they are painted by hand but they are obviously not, do you really think thousands of these toys are painted by hand? There were so many crooked As on Captain America's helmet that of course that was done by a machine that messed up. The paint looks too perfect to be hand painted it looks like it is airbrushed or something.

I'm not sure about that. If you've done it enough times with the proper supervision, then it seems possible to achieve that level of excellence consistently. But I really have no idea. I just read somewhere that this was the case and accepted it as truth. The As on Cap could have been applied by a machine while skin tones/eyes/etc. could have been applied by people.

Good one! :lol

Really, he can only blame himself for letting something like that affect him. I just ignore it... or make fun of it. :monkey3

But I know where you were coming from. The trailer caught me off guard and really wasn't what I was expecting. I didn't shed tears, but damn if I wasn't close. :monkey2

Obviously it didn't and wasn't going to effect everyone the same way. Doesn't make our feelings less genuine. Doesn't mean those who didn't feel the same didn't "get it". :wink1:

Enjoy it in your own damn way... if you enjoy it at all. Anyone who doesn't can ____ off. :monkey1

I thought the trailer was amazing. The reasons why are good enough for me.

That's why I said I understand what he was saying to a degree. And like you said, it's unfortunate it ____ed with him so bad he had to back away. Like you I try not to let it bother me.

This isn't a response to your post here but I just wanted to ask why would you leave a bloated post, that sounded slightly condescending , about customs in a thread that is NOT in the customs section? I get you have your own opinion and that's fine and dandy but this is obvious a place where people come and discuss the DX01. It sounds as though your trying to convince everyone here that this figure sucks and customs is where it's at.

Woah. Way to dig up some old posts:slap In the end the whole likeness argument is subjective and cannot be won. :dunno

Some people prefer customs because they are limited and 'special'. Others are simply after a better likeness or a figure that the big companies will never produce.:dunno

I didn't mean to bring up and old post but no one really stuck up for the person that owned that custom figure by Adam, which I think is outstanding but I can why they think it looks like the figure has no expression. Nevertheless, the head sculpt is the best I have ever seen as far as likeness goes.

It just made me frustrated when the majority here think that hot toys Jokers are better than talented Joker custom artist, when obviously they are not and know they are not otherwise they would not be reasling Joker 2.0. OMG if Yulli attempts that sculpt again we are screwed, because she has failed four times so far to produce any likeness of Ledger. However, the bank robber Joker is a cool sculpt, it doesn't look like ledger but it is a cool sculpt. They need Kojun or someone that is probably a better sculptor to sculpt Ledger.

Anyway I am not saying customs are better than mass produced, what I am saying is that there are some good customs out there that are better than hot toys mass produced figures and vice versa. Personally I think the majority of customs are junk. Even the good ones are overpriced.

Everything you said in the last paragraph sums it up, and my reason for preferring customs is for better likeness.

:goodpost:

No it is not, you have to go back to a few pages where people are saying the person that owned the custom Joker figure by Adam Gu is not as good as hot toys DX Joker as far as likeness goes. I can not understand for the life of me why they see that. Not too many people really defended this person when the majority here said hot toys are better than custom figures period!

I just felt I had to respond because to say the DX Joker is better than the talented custom integration scene sculpt by Adam gu that was owned by that person seems insane to me. I honestly do not understand how people can think that! The person did mention some facts that were true and hot toys fan boys dismissed them as opinions and not facts, when they are facts.

For the record, I think the majority of customs suck it just so happens that there are some rare people on this board that are good at doing customs and so far hot toys has not produced a good Joker IMO.

IMO I think Hot toys Jack Sparrow DX has better likeness to any customs I have seen, even Kojuns handmade one! So no I am not against mass produced figures.

I dont know what the 2.0 Joker figure will look like so I cant say that it is not worth buying and you should just buy a custom figure.

So no I am not trying to convince this board not to buy the Joker 2.0 and instead spend it on some custom figure that is probably going to be worse.

I was simply just trying to defend the person that owned the Adam gu sculpt.

I doubt thousands of these figures are painted by people, when they all look like the exact same paint job. I see no dry brushing, I see no washes. if they are painted by hand than they are all air brushed.

Oh i'm not that bothered, but I enjoy sparring with Fabio on the boards, I'm sure he'll be back sooner or later

And yes, time to watch it again :yess:

Completely off topic, but I'm listening to Metallica's Battery, and the guitar riff was completely in-time with the hand gesture of that gif, and it gave me a chuckle :D

^ Awesome song.

:lol :lol :lol

Killer song

Although I don't think they are made by machines, I don't think the same tools that most customizers use are used. I agree there is a lot of tricks used, like airbrushing the skin and decals for the eyes. Not that that's a bad thing, as the end results speak for themselves, I just am more impressed when someone can achieve similar precision with a brush.

:lol Gif saved.

I'm not sure that's true. It depends who you are listening to. Someone posted a link to the DC Customs forum. You will here very different opinions there.

And yes, the gif is funnier while listening. :lol

Since there's a custom discussion kind of hanging around here, I figured this was as good a thread as any to post my Adam sculpt that I just finished working on for, oh, the 12th time in a year or so. The issue with this one has always been the paintjob, since this was one that Adam didn't really put all of his effort into, and seeing as how most of his sculpts are done with the messy paint, I finally sat down and decided to give it the thick makeup look I'd been wanting to do but putting off forever. So here's the result. Narrow shoulder body, DX clothes aside from a BillyB shirt and tie.

Any paint critiques are welcome. Hard to get the caked-on makeup look without the white paint globbing up on me, plus the lack of texture in Adam's sculpts is murder for those of us who work in brushes.

I like the paint job you did it looks so nice and neat. I believe this is one of Adam's first sculpt, which I am not a fan of and do not think it is all that great but there is some Ledger resemblance, unlike hot toys IMO . However, that being said, I would still kill for it as still destroys the current hot toys ones! Congrats on getting that man and for doing such a terrific paint job!

:clap

Thanks guys.

This sculpt was indeed one of his earlier ones, but it actually has a really strong Ledger likeness underneath the makeup, as you can see here in this pic I took shortly after I got it. The paint was much lighter.

The thing with Ledger sculpts is once you get past a certain point with the makeup, the likeness is hidden much like it was in the movie.

Who acted like that movie was the reason for their existence?

I've seen a lot of people claiming that "some people got so worked up" and freaking out about "all the TDK freaking out" - but for all that fuss, I never actually saw any of the behavior they're claiming is everywhere.

I think some people like to complain about things and enjoy being part of a backlash - and when there's nothing to legitimately complain about or lash back against, they make it up in their head, because they need a target.

Yeah, I agree with this.

I'm yet to see someone who meets some of these 'descriptions'
