While you are correct about it being a cheaper alternative, recasting sculpts is generally frowned upon by the collecting community, particularly in regard to custom made sculpts. It is probably technicaly illegal to do so in regard to the HT sculpts. However, I think there is much more negativity associated with their "cloning" the Rainman Fightclub guys than this. Folks seem to shrug when they see an HT sculpt being recast, rightly or wrongly.

I see now, interstingly enough he seems to have two ebay accounts, here is same auction under differnet name link

I wonder if that could be used to fix broken PERS

Anybody else seen this?

Headplay strikes again? Looks like the PERS works really well :lol

Hahaha. They couldn't make the eyes level? I mean not that it matters, like Maglor said the eyes look like poo anyway. There is another seller recasting mad HT and EB sculpts and they actually look pretty good, especially the mms117 sculpt they sell for $50. They recast the Mr.Bean head but it didn't have the moving eyes. I never thought the recasters would would go as far as to replicate PERS.

It IS illegal. HT have paid a licensing fee, this is an un-authorized bootleg, no different than a pirate copy of a CD or DVD, or an illegal download.

But then, perhaps sculpts made without likeness rights are also illegal in some situations for the same reason, as previous arguments by Nam and others have pointed out.

Yes, both are illegal as far as the law is concerned.

What I was distinguishing between though was headplay recasting something which is illegal in the first place (a Rainman head for example) VS headplay recasting a legal, licensed product (recasting DX01 Joker head)

So while the first case is shades of grey, the 2nd case is clear cut.

And yet, this community comes down harder on the recasts of unlicensed products.

I actually get it. We are more apt to forgive people who take advantage of a large company like Hot Toys, but it seems more vicious when we see it done to a member here who is only making a handful of heads.

I personally think they're equally bad, but if a custom sculpt gets recast then it affects the board more than if an HT sculpt gets recast in general. Because the custom artist can get pissed/disillusioned and leave, but HT doesn't seem to care very much.

I believe HT did post the Wolverine original vs. fake comparison pics on their FB page. They might spread some awareness about the Joker head too. That's the best they can do, I guess, apart from filing a suit.

The super glue trick. :)

Using the craft brush style of super glue, brush into the knee joint and keep moving it until it completely dries. Repeat until you get the desired results.

Ankles are easier. Just coat the barbel ends with glue. Reapply until you get the desired results.
