Honestly, I just thought it was a picture, then I was scrolling past at exactly the right time, and I thought I was going crazy. Then, I realized what it was.

If it were just the headsculpt alone I would totally agree with you. But the fact that they went and hired the tailor for the outfit featured in that pic, and also replicated the table and chair set, AND then chose the exact same reference image for the laughing head.

I don't know, somehow I think the factors are all connected :lol

But I am clearly biased seeing as it is my pic, so be that as it may.

Either way i'm delighted they went the direction they did - good for everyone and especially those that desperately wanted a laughing head or Kato's clothing.

Does seem like quite a coincidence.

Omg your signature is GENIUS!!!! :clap

Was just gonna say comment on that!

Scared the ____outta me.

I don't think he really got burned, unless you like the idea of waking up one day and seeing something that looks exactly like what you did done by someone else. But in this hobby, that happens alot. We're all after the same characters.

I'm sure he's fine with it and has moved on. I have. Besides, I said he got plenty of money for the 3 heads to make it worth his while. Weren't they $800 a pop?

Hey, they say if you're going to steal, steal from the best. I'm just glad they stole from Adam and not some hack. (I'm using the word steal very loosely here for all you pedants.)

Lol "steal" :lol

One artist sells custom sculpts for hundreds of dollars without any permission, hence no license. Illegally.

HT's comes along with full paid license and makes the same sculpt.

Who's stealing?

Yea didn't Kato get a warning from the makers of Dexter when he was making his custom clothes for that show? Which is why the title of the clothing was changed to "Miami Serial Killer" or something like that and not straight up "Dexter...?" :lol

What are you, the FBI?

No, I'm an artist. And when I create something original, of my own, I don't appreciate it when someone else rips off the idea/character/creation and makes a profit off of it. If I invest my own time and money, I deserve to get a cut off any money it generates.

WB doesn't care if customizers make heads and turn a small profit off of their characters. I don't care if customizers do it. Hell, -I- make custom figures based on characters that they own, created, and invested in heavily to make popular (without which the character would not be popular enough for me to sell and make a profit on).

But I know damn well where I - and other customizers - stand in the food chain, and I don't go throwing around the word "stealing" when in fact it is customizers who are making a tidy profit off of the backs of true artists like Nolan, Ledger, and the team behind "The Dark Knight."

Think twice before you use a word as loaded as that.

I would like to clarify something, I am just not allowed to use "Dexter" to promote my henley and cargo pants.

They don't hv the license of any brand providing henley and cargo pants.

I hv ever replied them that " pls don't let dexter wearing white T shirt and jeans in the show, otherwise you will be very busy in sending C&D letter...

gotcha. Makes sense

Very :goodpost: 100% agree with you.

Ditto. :lecture

I've said it before and I'll say it again... sure seems odd to me that we even 'had' to change the Kato Joker thread to '1/6th laughing man' and then all of a sudden he just happens to be working on Hot Toy's new Joker's 1/6th clothes, officially...

I'm an artist as well, and I have had my work outright stolen on more than one occasion -- it's the price of doing business in the town I live in. So easy on the condescension. I'm so glad that you kow tow to big business like WB, Nolan and Hot Toys. How noble of you. But the only reason Hong Kong specifically and China in general have exploded economically in the past two decades is because they have set aside silly notions such as copyright protection, trademarks and other forms of intellectual property rights. You're acting like the chief counsel of big corporations everywhere when I'm merely stating something that's been said many times before: the individual brilliance of artists on these forums seems to lead the aesthetic direction Hot Toys moves, not vice versa. I already conceded that stealing was an inaccurate term, accept that or don't. But calm down on the self righteousness. I'm not Adam's attorney and you're not Hot Toys's.
