No, the new one looks much more like Ledger to my eyes now that we've seen the full reveal. And I dig the new smirk sculpt, but I still just think I prefer the BR expression. We'll see if that changes once I get the new one in-hand.

This is what I'm hoping. That's some pretty extensive paint apps on the face. Especially the laughing sculpt. I really hope that transfers well through production.

I think the headsculpts on Bank Robber Joker and this new DX are both pretty excellent. I would happily display them together. I do already have four Ledger Joker figures already, though.

I always liked the "smirking" sculpt a lot. I think it is the first that has really surpassed the Bank Robber sculpt. The BR Joker looks just like Ledger's Joker -- more so than any of the others up until now -- but it doesn't have much personality. There weren't all that many times in TDK that The Joker had a blank expression like that ... so, unlike most sculpts with neutral expressions, the BR sculpt ends up being not-so-versatile.

The new serious sculpt captures the right facial expression for a versatile Joker sculpt ... though I don't know if I'd describe it as a "smirk". More of a "mildly irritated" sculpt.

Reminds me of the look he had both when he dropped the silent f-bomb right after the "hit me" crash ... and around the "no, I'm not" line when the gangster calls him crazy.

Judging by all those comparison pics, if there's one negative thing I could say, it would be that the head sculpt seems a little full/wide when compared to Ledger's narrower face. This will still be my first Joker figure. Everything looks great.

...the HT one is sculpted basically a split second before the middle image as the mouth isn't open quite as far as the middle reference pic.

I actually think they used that middle shot exactly, and just didn't get the mouth open enough. The amount of expression in the face is a little out of place with how little the mouth is open.

I hear ya, BRJ (main) is obviously the best :lecture

Lets have a dig through shall we... ohh, I don't think I have the patience to shift through 5 months worth to January 09. Even though I'm looking for something for kicks.

Oh lovely, the mods have done a stellar job screwing with merges. BR thread last post, 09-08-2008, 11:36 AM, next post from a merge, 06-12-2011, 09:31 PM.

Not sure what your looking for, but I think I can save you the trouble:

I admit to once thinking the DX01 sculpt was superior to the Bank Robber. I'm sure if you look hard enough, you can find that. Why? Because it was new. Just like DiFabio said. Again, that can be a factor, and no one's totally immune to it.

However, I don't at all believe that I will one day look back and think the Bank Robber is a better sculpt than this.

Again, sometimes something new really is better.

[Edit] Another reason I first thought the DX01 was better than the Bank Robber was that it was the only Hot Toys figure I owned. When I actually got the BR in-hand I could see it was better, and happily admitted it.

This statement plainly proves that HT aren't collectibles anymore. I mean why bother to buy this figure when it'll be inferior upon the 3.0 release?

This is so true, in another year or two, this figure will be dissed something rotten. Looks like we're just collecting expensively glorified action figures then. Heck even the vehicles are getting recycled.

I have no regrets for having collected any of my figures. A few of the will be sold off, like the Medicom Joker and DCD Joker, but I'm keeping all of my HT Jokers.

I still think they are great figures and most (if not all) will be displayed as such.

But that doesn't mean I have to be in denial about how Hot Toys has improved. And that doesn't mean I feel the need to minimize those improvements.

Gottcha. :duff

I'm pretty sure they used the image from my avvy, the one I composited the sculpt into a few pages back. That's the one Adam used and is pitch perfect match.
