It was out of respect to Ledger. But apparently in the book of the film there is mention that the sole remaining inhabitant of Arkham Asylum was The Joker. It was assumed he escaped when all of Bane's chaos began...

Yep. Sounds like a perfect time for Bruce to retire as Batman. Leave it to the newb to recapture Joker :exactly:

Guys, shed some light on this.....How come Joker wasnt included in the TDKR? He didnt die on the second movie and was saved by Batman from falling, so therefore he was captured and should be in Gotham prison just like Dr. Crane aka Scarecrow. The moment Bane's group releases all the prisoner only Crane was given a cameo role of a judge.

blackgate and arkham are two completely different places. joker is elsewhere.

I assumed rdc2 is only asking, as many of us did, why Joker isn't even mentioned in the film.......

Probably. I wondered it myself. They could have used a different actor, though we all know that wouldn't have been the same. There probably was a respect thing going on too. I LOVE the snippet of back story that the Joker would be the only one who stayed in Arkham. It rings of Arkham Asylum, which is a great graphic novel. Hell, I wish Heath was alive today, so he could do that movie (among other obvious reasons).

In real life. The actor died...so no joker in TDKR :monkey2

However, in Greg Cox's novelization of The Dark Knight Rises, it goes like this..

With the Dent Act, the insanity plea was thrown out for the most part, with felons being predominantly imprisoned, rather than institutionalized. Therefore, most inmates were moved to Blackgate Prison. However, the Joker was not to be found there, leading some in Gotham to speculate that he is one of, if not the only, inmate of Arkham Asylum. The Joker's whereabouts were never publicized, leaving the possibility that he had escaped by the time of Bane's revolution: "The worst of the worst were sent ((to Blackgate)), except for the Joker, who, rumor had it, was locked away as Arkham's sole remaining inmate. Or perhaps he escaped. Nobody was really sure."

That's a silly concept. Makes zero sense. No one goes to Arkham? Where did the lawyers go? Surely someone would find a loophole in the Dent Act. It's as proposterous as all of Gotham's police going into the sewers and.... oh wait.

:lol:lol:slap I still don't get why Batman takes the blame for Harvey's crimes?? :lol

It's about hope. Harvey was the "white knight" of Gotham, and as such inspired people to stand up to crime. He was an honest politician, and a motivational hero and a symbol of justice. If the truth was let out, all that would be tainted, and people would lose hope and despair. Batman took the blame because he's a nobody, a phantom, and people weren't sure about him anyway. His fallen nature would not change anything in the eyes of the people. But Dent's death and memory would serve as a rallying call, and it had done so by the third movie.

Yeah, I get that. That's the "movie logic." What I don't get is why Batman takes the blame? Why not blame the Joker? He was a bad guy and he killed a bunch of people. Not to mention, the female cop didn't died, so she knows the truth about Harvey. Also, Gordon and Batman are already lying about the truth, why not blame everything on the most EVIL villain in town, the joker. :)

Joker isn't in TDKR because the character was too good for it. He's simply left out and never mentioned because, well, TDKR is a crappy alternate reality where lame things happen.

He lives on in our Batman Begins and The Dark Knight blu rays/dvds.

I always considered TDKR as a second thought compared to what could have been if Heath lived. If Heath Ledger was still alive I would bet my house that Nolan would have brought Joker back for the final film. Hell I doubt Bane or Talia would have even been in it.
