Re: HOT TOYS : MMS DX 12 - The Dark Knight Rises - BATMAN / BRUCE WAYNE Full Specs &
My design aesthetic is more a balance of form and function with a heavy focus on usability, so I greatly prefer the utilitarian and greater "realism" (note the quotes there) of the Nolan designs, even if they have little to no relevance to the comic-based origins. Even back in 89 when I saw the original movie, I instantly disliked the sculpted muscles on the suit - they serve no functional purpose and from a flourish perspective look somewhat cheesy.
If I collected Batman (in general), I'd probably have both, but since I don't, I stuck to what film series I prefer - and then only to the two figures I felt would fit best with my display space. Everyone has different reasons/ways for/of collecting.
And when it comes to mods, these are finished collectibles to me, so I'd like to preserve what the artists created, so I save my creativity for my own designs, dios, backgrounds, customs, bashes, etc. That's not to say I'm opposed to making mods at any time, it's just not something I enter into without absolute necessity, like replacing a broken body on my Medicom Henry Jones Sr. as well as painting his hat and shoes the correct colors. On DX12 I quite like the eyes in their factory-fresh condition. The gloves are probably what stick out in my mind the most, but they don't bother me enough to mod them. The cowl, again doesn't bother me enough. The cape, fine and not a focal point with some futzing - especially from typical viewing distance and in the environment I'm displaying.
For anyone into light bashing and frequent reposing, DX12 offers a wealth of possibilities as there are so many simple mods and aftermarket parts/accessories available. If that's your thing, that's cool, just another aspect of the hobby and something I also enjoy with custom/kitbash figures.
