1) A droid has important information that must be delivered to the good guys (Episode IV, anyone?)
2) so the bad guys hunt for the droid on a desert planet (IV)
3) Storm troopers raid a village, killing everyone (IV)
4) A girl is captured by the bad guys and the good guys rush to the base to the rescue. (IV)
5) The girl and the boy have a friend zone relationship through the film (Ep IV, Luke & Leia, wouldn't be surprised to learn that they are siblings in Episode IX)
6) The stormtroopers, elite soldiers of the bad guys, still can't hit a barn door. On the other hand, the good guys always hit, even when they use a weapon for the first time in their life
7) Supreme Leader Snoke = Emperor with a silly name
8) The bad guys have a magnificent new weapon that can destroy planets (Ep IV)
9) They use it to destroy a planet loyal to the rebels (IV)
10) The weapon has shields that can be destroyed by going down on the planet and disabling the shield generator (VI)
11) The epic villain wears a mask that distorts his voice (IV) and sadly, looks better with the mask on than without it.
12) The good guys can only destroy the weapon with an attack by X-Wings on the exact target (IV)
13) The X-Wings have to fly in a tight trench in order to reach their target (IV)
The screen writers had absolutely no new ideas to show for their money. A bunch of monkeys could have written better dialogue. A 1st grader could have made a plot that had less holes in it. The special effects were pretty much of the same quality as in the first Star Wars movie that was released 1977. I'd expect something way better in 2015.

And you think that original Star Wars was something new? Star Wars are recycling ideas from the very begining. From samurai movies to WW2 theme. EP VII is the same thing. I really don't understand why is anyone surprised that they played it safe and used everything again.

Special effet pretty much of the same quality ... effects in OT were damn good and aged well so it's a good thing. But i really hope you do know there was no CGI back then :D

There's a lot more out there than this but we all know how your replies are going to go. All the websites were in the 90 plus range for this movie being amazing. They are dropping lower and lower as the world wakes up from the hype. This movie made terminator genesys look good. At least they tried.

Plot similiarites or inspiration/homage can be discussed to the end of time. For me personally it was close to the remake line but didn't cross it.

But bashing the dialogue and special effects like 1977? Now you are just hating.

Man, it's just a movie. If you don't like it, move on and don't waste you time spitting acid around. People like me don't care, i enjoyed it and i'm looking forward to see it again, probably several more times.

The entire movie plot moves through coincidence. There is no character development. No connection to the protagonists. The tension is non-existent to the point of the actual characters in the movie making jokes about it (Just use the Force, right?). By the end of this movie you're cringing at how fragile the villains look. Dialogue is so forced and direct that I'm willing to bet their preview audiences were children. There is barely any scope, any feeling of vastness and of how rich this universe is (the prequels actually did this better, which is unbelievable). The story is insulting, both to the viewers intelligence and to decades of lore that got destroyed in another toy commercial.

But the worst thing about this movie, and which confirms that we truly can not trust any system of rating available to a wide range of people, for how dosed off and content with shallow entertainment most of us are, is how this is being labeled as a space opera. This is not a space opera. It is a bland action flick that happens to be branded as a Star Wars movie. But the feeling of Star Wars is not present. There is no magic left (or Force, for that matter). All that's left now is to determine how long will the mass hysteria last for this disaster to get its deserved recognition.

You know, I don't have a problem with opinions. They're different, etc, etc. Everyone's entitled to one. But if I see someone go to figure threads to comment about how much he hates a movie, then, well, I classify that as hating. Nobody's forcing you to like it. But please, if you want to discuss it, you should go to the movie thread to vent/rant/whatever. You can dislike the movie all you want, but to say that it's a god-awful flick worse than Genesys is silly.

I do agree that the plot was rehashed, but that's just the stepping stone of the new trilogy. No movie/comic book/game is entirely original. Everyone copies from each other, hoping to find something new in the proccess. TFA copied the main plot from ANH, but honestly, it's the execution that counts in my book. If we go by what's "original" then we'll enjoy nothing. The Avengers is basically Independence Day with Super-Heroes. The Dark Knight is Batman 89' just in modern times. The Amazing Spider-Man is pretty much "Spider-Man". Heck, all comic book movies are adaptations/rehashes of the the stories in the titles. Does that mean that we should stop watching them?

The parallels is part of what makes it Star Wars. These are the repeated verses and refrains of mythology. These stories spiral as they progress, continually looping back and revisiting the same themes again and again while also moving forward. This was a passing of the torch kind of film where the focus was to explore how another generation will live into the same mythological stories they share with what came before them. Yes, the story and characters need to make more progress in the films to come in their own unique ways, but I think the first film being set up with such wonderful parallels is very consistent with the kind of Joseph Campbell like mythology that Star Wars was always trying to tell. This is just the beginning of the journey, as the voice of Obi Wan said in Rey's Vision, "these are your first steps". I think they have wonderfully set up the making of a potentially really good three chapter story which will hopefully be a great conclusion to the Star Wars mythology. It's a really good start - can't wait to see what happens next.

Dude we get it, you didn't like the movie, but most of us in this forum and thread did, your constant droneing on with yourself will not change our opinion.

Get over yourself.

It is funny those who bash the PT for 10-15 years don't take hate. Lordreginis bashes TFA for a few days and everyone hates him for it :lol

I don't understand :lol

I feel sorry for those who PO'd this

What a dumb post. Why would you stupidly assume other people who pre ordered share your opinion? I did not pre order but I will as soon as its close to shopping or go on wait list. Whichever comes first. It's like you are not satisfied that you don't want the figure but you desperately want to convince everyone else that they should not want it too.

It's no big deal, I honestly wish it was something I could have liked but it was so painfully bad I just couldn't do it. I only posted here because you wanted me to tell you more.

And as for it being a monster hit, of course it is... It's star wars. But only a few days have past and all the averages are dropping rapidly. And once the movie comes out on blu ray... It's going to be the prequels situation all over again.

That is your wish but you will just be a disappointed when the majority of the public does not fall into your line of thinking. I can't wait to get this on You Ray UHD.
