For me, it often comes down to a few factors. Do I like the presentation? Is it a character I really enjoy and want featured in my collection? Are enough of the features (the outfit, the portrait, and less so, the accessories) look well-rendered? In this instance, it was a resounding "yes" to all.

Hopefully you viewed many in-hand shots, checked out the varied video reviews and possibly actually saw the figure before you made that choice....especially if it was character you are a fan of.

I'm a huge fan of Qui-Gon and am extremely pleased with this figure. The more I snap shots and try different poses, the more I like it.

Good luck on your future collecting and hope you acquire some pieces that you are pleased with.

Extremely well said jedibear! I feel exactly the same way and I am also much more forgiving than most regarding likenesses and accuracy. And to me, pictures like this make me smile as much as seeing my copy with my lightsaber wired up to a soap reactor with the rest of my Jedi and Sith.

I'll agree that this isn't the penultimate quality version of Jinn that many of us hoped would come from HT. Heck, even the proto looked a little off to me.
But as Coco mentioned. it is better than the SSC effort and I don't think we'll see another 1:6 version of him for many years to come, if ever.

For what it is, I'm happy with him on display.

...and beautiful display, blinguskahn!

A few more...It's hard to stick on just one particular look as there's many great options.

If money weren't an obstacle i'd pick up another two...

Ahh..if i were a rich man Ya ba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dibba dum...:)

Well, you did what anyone who ends up not pleased with the end result should do...voted with your wallet.

Those of us who've been at this for a while already know that it's a very rare thing that we see a production version of a figure match the prototype exactly. Sometimes they're close and sometimes they are significantly different. There have been the rare occasions where the production piece actually looked improved in production (the recently released Endgame Captain America seems to fit this category with most who've received it so far).

Does Jinn match the prototype? No, of course not. It's softer in detail, it's paint is less intense. But the prototype had it's detractors as well regarding the likeness to Neeson. But this change in detail and paint is often the case with these figures. Weather it's a licensor-mandated change or simply the way it went through final production, a great many of these portraits often end up with the same quality issues. They end up being well-crafted with a likeness that looks great in certain angles or conditions, but lacking in that elusive "realism" some collectors pursue.

For me, it often comes down to a few factors. Do I like the presentation? Is it a character I really enjoy and want featured in my collection? Are enough of the features (the outfit, the portrait, and less so, the accessories) look well-rendered? In this instance, it was a resounding "yes" to all.

Well said - I think I see what you see...or, I had to go back and look hard at the studio shot...

I can't do much with a tablet, but, basically - it's the same sculpt as the proto; except it's not custom painted and so some corners were cut with shading and toning. For me *shrug*. It'd be NICE to have all that delicate eye shading and whatever other washes were done for the studio job (I guess + image tweaking), but since my figs are usually kept fairly shadowed, for Qui-Gon that doesn't make a lot of difference in my case.

Realistically for me - I'm not seeing a problem here for production work. And it's not like I haven't had sculpt or paint meltdowns:cool: (IW Cap, CW Bucky, BP v2, EndGame Hawkeye). Come to think of it, most of my figs could be considered slightly off in sculpt/likeness - I think IW Bucky, IW Rhodey, Vision, Roadworn Thor, maybe CW Ironman are the only ones I'd think of as absolute dead-on.

Mostly I was worried that this fig would have that blobby softening:horror, but the details are sharp and clean in hand (the better photos here pick that up).

But, folks should buy what speaks to them. I'm obviously happy with this fig:cool:, and he's a shelf asset - great to work with. I can't be mad that HT didn't put enough eyeshadow on him.:monkey3:cool:

PS. There are outstanding photos being posted!:clap:clap:clap

I think if some dark washes were put around the wrinkles on the eyes, etc like the recent pics of the Kenobi sculpt where that was done would bring it back to the proto type paint. Regardless, I still love this figure.

This one photographs very softly for some reason. I checked mine and took the robe off for storage and thought it was a pretty strong likeness, especially in the 3/4 angles. Not a Yondu, but few are. Happy customer.

I packed his ponch away and never used it. Never planned on displaying him with it on and covering up his outfit. But all these poncho pics and poses are really looking cool so I may have to rethink that one.

Personally i find the production piece has a better likeness than the proto...

Nice comparison. I hadn't read the earliest posts and comments on this fig in detail anyway; was just aware there'd been some complaints and/or a delay? LOL I am all for Goth guyliner but don't think I'll be touching up my Qui-Gons to match a 'shopped studio pic.

I don't have much SW - was never planning to have more than a fig here and there $$$$$$$$$$:horror - until Mando came along:lol

quigons_opt.jpg

Even with Mando I am grimly winnowing the list $$$$$ of wants.:crying No regrets on my Qui-Gons, but really kicking myself for not picking up HT Obi-Wan.

Guess I'll wait for the D+ series releases 'coz not paying 800-900$ for an Obi-Wan.:pfft: Anyway worst things I can say about this fig is fighting with head articulation and Qui-Gon is a bit of a dust magnet - nothing new there.

Matrix pics are so awesome:clap:clap:clap - convinced me to get an actual camera - hopefully sooner than later.

Great comparison, I still think both are misses. The nose and eyes are off. I'm happy to have him there on the shelf, but it's not a sculpt that would blow anyone away.

For me - *shrug*. I've got some beautiful figs, appreciate the sculpts and paint, but I'd say few are like IW Bucky or I guess Yondu (don't own him). Or Shuri I guess.

Appreciate even more since Qui-Gon seems like one to *cherish* - e.g. who knows what is going on with HT. They seem like they are skating a lot releasing SW Trooper figs - no sculpts.

Yeah I know what you mean. Even though I prefer that look, it felt kind of wrong at first covering up so much of the outfit with this big shapeless poncho. But the more pics I see the more I'm convinced it's the coolest look for the figure, and one that also makes him stand out more in the collection.

I was on the fence with Qui-Gon but I decided to make the purchase. I feel that this is the last figure with as many accessories at this price point due to the price being set two years ago. Today we are getting Rogue one troopers with no head sculpt, zero accessories for the same price as Qui Gonn or for $10 more. Moff Gideon is $250 and does not come with as much. Or Lando for the exact same price which really includes nothing. Thats why I believe Qui Gonn is the last of that era. Go kids, go buy your Qui Gonns!!!

I ended up buying him too.

After listening to this, it justified my purchase:
