I am sure I am overthinking it... but any recommendation on what to use and how to do it?

Thanks!
Use a bit of distilled vinegar (white), laundry detergent, and water. Soak for 24 hours. Give it another soak in just detergent and water (gets rid of the vinegar smell). Rinse thoroughly, get rid of the excess water as much as possible and lay out on a paper towel to dry. If it still leaches color onto the paper towel — repeat everything.

Stryker's advice is good, but 24 hours is a little overkill in my opinion.

When I did it, I put some laundry detergent in a bowl and mixed it up with my finger. Use cold water. I left it for about an hour and wrung it out gently, but thoroughly with my hands. After that I did a second rinse in just water to get any excess detergent out and make sure I had no dye left in the robe. You'll be amazed how much comes out the first time - that's the stuff that would have stained the figure.

I don't remember her user name but there was a girl who did a really good walkthrough on how to do this on Reddit some years ago. You can always try and find her post on the Hot Toys subreddit there. But just soaking it, wringing it out, and soaking it again should be good.

That said, I just leave the robes in the box myself.

But what if they get cold? :)

Thanks for the advice peeps! I am going to strip the robe of my old Obi since I am not sure if the person I got it from ever did this either... and then when Liam arrive, he will get the treatment too.

And vinegar is probably overkill. I don’t think anything acidic is needed. Just mild detergent.

The dye leeches out pretty readily from what people say. Soak in water and detergent, wring out, repeat till there’s no dye in the water anymore.

I don’t think I’d be willing to do laundry for my dollies :rotfl :rotfl

I use water and dish soap...soak it and watch all the color that bleeds out. Then rinse a few times and wring it out by hand...then air dry. Haven't had any issues yet. Every figure that comes with a robe gets this done.

Man... you weren't kidding! I just did it with my Old Ben figure... and the water looked like a grape Crush! Crazy how much dye is in there!

Yea I was surprised the first time I washed a Jedi robe and how much dye flooded into the basin. ROTJ Luke was the first one I did and the water just turned stupid dark that I thought I ruined it! To my surprise, it was just excess and the robe itself still had its color after all the rinsing and drying. Similar to what @Jbeltram4 said, after first one, I do it with all my cloaked figures. For me, it’s just best practices now to avoid staining the figure rather than having to spend more money buying new parts b/c I didn’t want to take a few minutes to hand wash some miniature robes

Who knows honestly, Hot Toys is weird lol.

I thought we'd get at least a Emperor Palpatine or ROTJ Boba Fett re-release for ROTJ, instead we got no re-releases for that movie.

With the independent eye system with recent releases the bigger question is why release Mace without? This leads me to think Qui Gon will remain without a 2.0.

I feel like the obvious lack of SLJ likeness being used with Mace could mean he's gonna get another figure that does actually use his likeness. It's HT favorite tactic to double dip on characters.

They did the same thing with TV series Ahsoka. First one looked nothing (NOTHING) like the actress. So a lot of people picked up the second release with the likeness.

I think Mace was unfortunate enough to not be included in the paradigm shift of movable eyes for characters. If nothing else, now I'm even more hopeful for a 2.0 Qui.

Or I'll be dead wrong and pay like 4-500$ for him next year or so.

After spending over 2 years in the same pose, with his robe on, I decided to change his pose, I noticed unfortunately there is some touch staining on the tunic, but is not super noticeable as it’s covered mostly by his hair. Whilst changing him about I noticed he was too short (by only a centimeter at most maybe, but still bothered me lol), and that I thought his shoulders were too broad.

I went on Kits website and got some ankle extenders, got the accurate height after playing with a few configurations, and then I sanded the shoulders. The sanding of the shoulders doesn’t seem to have made much of a difference, but I do think he looks better now and I’m very happy with the results. I even noticed his robes fall right above his knees now, which is accurate to his movie robes.

My one gripe, are his boots, because they’re that stiff leather they don’t have much give, and between that and the *slightly* less sturdy ankles, it was difficult to get a natural pose. But I think I did well.
