Avengers is THE big movie event next year..(along with DKR)..I expect HT will do 5-6 figures from it and announce at least 2-3 well before the movie comes out.
The Avengers has confirmed Cap has a new uniform. It's a no brainer that Tony will have a new Mark if not two. I guarantee you they'll be a difference in Thor's costuming from this to that, what who knows, I'm sure we'll get a glimpse of what by SDCC but I guarantee you that part of the marketing machine that will hit for The Avengers will be differences in suits for anyone we've seen before, they gotta sell Toys. I'm sure HT will fully capitalize on The Avengers and it may be the closest we'll see in them going all in for a line.
Not going too far off topic but box office of Thor is just OK- not a huge runaway hit. It's around $150 million so far and compare it to Hangover II which will gross $118 million in just three days.
Apples and Oranges. Thor is virtually unknown in terms of the general populous. The film has done as well as it has on clever marketing and word of mouth. The Hangover was the sleeper hit of the year. You'll see a huge dropoff from The Hangover within a week. Marvel even classified Iron Man as a shock in terms it did so well. Thor was right on par with the first Iron Man film and I don't think you'll have a hard time getting them to do a sequel, I've even read that The Enchantress is being thrown around as a possible villain for the next film.
Worldwide: $409,220,315. Don't underestimate the power of foreigners.
I think you'll even see it spike higher and higher on DVD and Blu-Ray sales. As good as Thor is there are still people who haven't seen it or don't know much about it even with the positive press.
Yeah I must have...LOL
I wonder if Green Lantern will top it..I just don't know!
GL will probably match it on opening weekend. WB is doing better on their marketing but they are still really lagging in terms of getting people to understand and really appreciate this unknown hero and the amount of TLC that went into that project. There is a serious chance of it to do Iron Man 1 money but it has a ton of competition in it's slot. Super 8 is out right before it. Mr. Popper's Penguins is out the same day which will take a small chunk of the kid demo they are trying to hit with their toys,
Cars 2 right after and Transformers the week after that. Going to the movies is expensive and there are a lot of families who are more than happy to wait or be really choosy. It'll take the opening weekend I think without much issues but it's legs especially in that kind of competitive slot will be interesting to monitor.
Look at HT history of completing lines to see what it is I am referring to.
Being that Thor, Captain America and Iron Man are the "headliners" of The Avengers I would say they are the locks. Hawkeye, Black Widow, Hulk those are the ones we should be crossing our fingers for. Without a doubt they'll be another Thor.
