Aristotle defined plot as the depiction of a single action. The quality of any dramatic enterprise is determined by the way in which that action is presented. Is it a logical sequence of events leading to a climax, or is it a random series of incidents punctuated by a spectacle? This was all spectacle with no apparent logic, until you actually discover the event which the film has endeavored to present. Then the logic becomes obvious and the plot clear.

I think he may have overreached his own storytelling abilities, but his ambitions qualify as much higher art than he gets credit for. So long as cinema as a discipline manages not to become a pretentious, Euripidean shell of itself (the way it seems to be doing now) I don't see this becoming anything less than a cult gem.

Well what would you say to someone who likes many a silly movie and draws half naked woman and robots for a living if they told you that SuckerPunch is a great eyecandy but utterly stupid, misguided and touching on offensively sexist?

Am now the the prude for which things to be measured by? Am I pretentiousness that you speak of?

Because I don't think I am any of those things.

I suppose the only "debate" here is whether SUCKER PUNCH is destined for "cult" status. And that's another non-starter due to one simple fact: no one knows. It has a cult following now

In the same way and extent as "Twilight" :dunno
Wich means that it gonna die when there will be no longer "every freaking minute" talks about it.
And it'll happen for sure coz there is nothing to discuss already.

Don't see why arguing that Sucker Punch is cult film has any bearing on its success as a figure line. . . because we know Baby Doll and Amber are going to be DOA.

Most people are going to pass on this line. HT will only make maybe, 1000 of each figure, and they're going to fetch high prices on eBay, cuz most people passed, and people are going to want to score them just because they're worth a lot of money. And years from now the same ol' whiners will point to their aftermarket value as proof that there is still viable interest in the line and that they should finish out the team. Despite the fact that years earlier they were in this thread saying, "$170 is too much, I'll pass".

I think they are both going to be available cheaply for quite some time before the stock of them dries up. Black Widow went for less than retail for months and her price only went up because of the Avengers imo. Abigail Whistler goes for under retail still on these boards alone. Same with Silk Spectre II.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get Amber for $70 plus shipping and Baby Doll for no more than $115 shipped.

I think you're wrong. :lol

I don't know. I don't really like silly movies. I don't care about robots or half naked women unless they're doing something interesting. They certainly have no value in and of themselves.

I don't think Sucker Punch was stupid or sexist. I think it could have been put together better, but it made a fantastically romanticized spectacle out of a bleak and miserable tragedy. I don't think the converse would have been worth a damn as art. Not only would it have been boring, but it would have been a genuine insult to the viewer, and the protagonist who, fail as she may have to escape the horrors inflicted upon her, still managed to be the master of her own fate.

Just out of genuine curiousity, what do you find stupid, misguided, and sexist about the film? I really have no problem with it not being any given person's cup of tea, I'm just trying to "get" some of the criticisms leveled against it.

I really wanted to like sucker punch, but I didn't. I just don't see how a movie could have such awesome special effects and action sequences, so many young beautiful women and still be so uninteresting. I left to go to the bathroom and just wondered around for like ten minutes b/c I didn't want to go back to the movie, and I am a cinaphile who typically can sit through anything. I watched it again when it came out on bluray, and I will admit it has since grown on me. When you take the underlying story in to account the film has a bit more substance, but
I still found the last act pretty unbearable. It's ok Zack Snyder we forgive you. You gave us 300....300!!!!
