To be fair I don't think HT would be where they are today if they weren't good at reading what their collectors 'actually' want to invest in. We tend to live in a warped microcosm on these forums feeding each other’s (often misguided) beliefs. Just because 10's or even 100's of folks say they want a figure does not mean they will seriously follow through and complete on a pre-order. If the Platoon, Watchmen or Sucker Punch figures had sold in the numbers needed to warrant follow ups you can guarantee we would have them. But they simply didn't! And no sane business invests in loss making venture. Simples!

i think in the case of sucker punch especially, they went with the main character first. if people aren't buying babydoll, they probably won't buy the rest. and although there are some people who won't get her until they're sure they make the others, i bet this is a small minority. for platoon, they announced elias, so this eliminates the possibility that people wouldn't buy into the line because they weren't sure the main 3 were coming. it's just a shame they didn't go through with it. rather than sell the 2 i have though, i think i'll customize my own elias.

what's stupid though is how they treated the watchmen line. they went with some questionable choices first and then judged sales on those. if you release the most popular choice first, personally i think more people are likely to buy into the secondary characters later on.

Its called meeting demand. And at the moment, none of the aforementioned licenses have enough. HT is a business, not a charity.

Except people pay money for the figures not fond wishes.

The reason Watchmen and Platoon didn't make lots of money is cos Hot Toys didn't provide lots of figures.

Iron Man, Predator and Batman would've of made around the same amount if they had the same (2 figures) produced in total.

Demand is there 90% of the time until the main figures are done, if HT did Rorchach, Comedian, Dr. Manhattan, Ozy, Nite Owl & Silk Spectre and finished then they'd have made the money the license could've generated. Fact is they didn't so they didn't.

If they finished the Batman license after Begins Suit and TDK suit then they'd have not earned the money the license was capable of.

If Hot Toys puts the effort to make a line successful by guaranteeing the main characters then fans will follow the line, as it is fans know that HT are likely to abandon the line so they don't bother to get involved as they know they'll be screwed over by an incomplete line.
The reason these lines didn't make money is cos Hot Toys can't be bothered to make the figures thet'd generate the money.

Don't see why not, If each had two figures, each make two figures worth of money.

Batman would sell a bit more cos it's batman but not a ridiculous amount of difference cos they'd have the same anount of figures on offer.

Either way, if HT makes figures, the figures will make at least some money, if they don't they won't make any money, last time i checked some is more than none.

They now have a reputation for not making more than two figures from lines that aren't already proven franchises, so the reason a franchise doesn't take off is cos people know HT won't develop it sufficiantly and don't jump on board at the beginning, it's a paradox.

They put the time and effort into making their caschows successful and haven't done that in years cos they are too comfortable exploiting them to bother making new lines successful. That's just the way it is, doesn't mean new franchises can't be successful if they develop them.

For example MGS could make them tons of money if they make the figures collectors want, there's no shortage of iconic characters to choose from, but if they don't make them they can't make money from them.

I maintain that a line can be successful if Hot Toys puts the time in, at least for the main characters, they'd make SOME MONEY which is better than NO MONEY from not making the figures at all.

I don't wanna get into a big thing cos i get all huffed and puffed about it, i simply have got HT Iron Man and Batman on my shelves already and don't have any need for more and more and more of them, but i do want to give HT money for plenty of original figures they aren't making... and being in that boat is harsh.

I just order a TT Muscle body and used $21.00 in reward points and still got the free shipping. Received it today along with a Valentine $25.00 card and a Pirates of the Caribbean Cosbaby for free.
