Unfortunately the shield on my Cap has started flaking. 3 red flakes off the shield... and it is very noticeable.

Any good tips on how to restore the red? I know there are bound to be answers in the forums but this thread is just too long.

Thank you.

Just a caveat on the TS-79. It will dull down the shield, so no more shine to it.

**edit. The TS-79 won't restore the red, sorry about that. It only seals the shield to prevent further flaking.

I sprayed my shield with the TS-79 and there's definitely still a shine to it, but it's not the chrome/metallic/reflective shine. It's much more movie-accurate when the shield is dulled down

You were right :rotfl

I'm looking into getting a Black Widow and Thor next :gah:

:lol I knew it!

I would love a Hawkeye but the prices are ridiculous. Really not digging the Hulk though.

Yes the price for The Hawk is very inflated indeed, but as to the HULK. Let me tell, you, pictures just don't do it. Even the best ones on here have not done it.

You need to see and handle the sheer mass and bulk of this figure in hand to really truly appreciate what a total and complete monster of a figure he really is!

:exactly: 100% agree! The figure is an amazing piece! :lecture

So no one knows how/the best way to restore the red coat?

You have to repaint it as Barry had said. Otherwise, if you feel it is still salvageable right now, spray a coat of Tamiya TS-79 to prevent it from further flaking.

I plan on repainting it the little red flaked spots with a dip of paint... deciding which to use.

I also have a new can of Mr. Hobby flat coat... planning to use it after I paint the red. But from what I see on this forum flat coats don't seem to be recommended?

The Gaia color clear red will probably be what they used.

Thanks :wave I'll take your word for it. Just looked cheap for $300 without any tailoring or armor despite the size but if he's as good as you say it will be worth it, if not just to finish the set. I put in an order for him on waitlist. Probably won't go through but i'm going for BW and Thor first so don't mind waiting a bit. If not then hopefully the prices drop with the double pack coming out next year.

Hey Racetrack, I just noticed you have your location as both the U.S. and U.K. I assume you travel back and forth to both countries?

I'm selling mine in the UK if anyones still looking, as new only out of the box for 2 weeks before i left for Uni

Coated with Tamiya TS-79, looks much more movie accurate! Camera has a broken focus, apologies on the quality of the photo. Here's a comparison with my spare shield. Do I need more coating? The Avengers shield will eventually flake too yes? I should spray that one as well?

Hi all,

Daron aka DGTWoodward passed away by a sudden heart attack on the eve of 19th Dec, here is a link to the thread started by his wife notifying us:
https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=137918

I have been speaking with Sharon, (Mrs DGTWoodward) and she has been gracious and kind enough to let us as a community send a token of respect to herself and her family, not to mention Daron.

We (Dave and mods) have agreed that we are going to pay our respects to our friend Daron aka DGTWoodward by having a collection which I will organise to send flowers to the family on or before the funeral.
The date of the funeral is not known yet but we can do this and send our thoughts to not only Daron but also his wife and family.

So, if anyone would like to make a contribution or donate towards this, please send me a message and I will let you know the details. I am in the UK so will sort out flowers and things and will try include all usernames of those who donate, on the cards of the flowers/ items we send.

Hopefully we can pay our respects not only to a member of our community who we have sadly lost, but also another member - his wife who is also an avid collector, along with their family.

If you would like to take part, please pm me and I will send you my details.
