I don't see how a dud of a movie ruins the other ones that came before it.
so a douchey, skateboarding, hipster bro Peter with fingerless gloves and no respect (doesn't even respect the dying last words of his girlfriend's father) is cool, but a a douchey, strutting, emo Peter who wears all black and has no respect is fine?
I don't get that one.
I think a lot of people are forgetting that in 3, Peter is wearing the symbiote full time, and its ****ing with him. Thats why he's a ****** and cocky and acting like a ***** constantly. Tobey's acting was fine for portraying how the symbiote was trying to take over Peter's body/life.
I'm not making excuses for SM3, because it was a piece of **** because of the fight between Avi Arad and Sam Raimi, but Tobey did a great job playing someone being forced to the other end of their emotional spectrum by an alien life form.
Raimi tried to put too much quirky comedy into the entire series instead of taking it seriously on its own terms. So for me personally a lot of his trilogy came across as cheesy, the second one is the best by far. I love Raimi but I didn't think he was right for Spidey.
Yeah, I agree to an extent.Spider-Man without quirky quips and comedy wouldn't be a Spider-Man film. What ruined the trilogy was Avi Arad demanding that Venom be put into the third film, and not letting Raimi finish the Goblin arc like he wanted to. Instead we got three **** enemies crammed into the third film for profit purposes.

Why does this keep getting pushed back
Probably because it's not ready to be released yet due to a host of factors we can only uselessly speculate on.

Quirky quips yes. Cheesy acting no. I swear Toby spent most of the movies acting "nice". The "I'm so sweet and nice" performance annoyed the hell out of me in the first one, by the time we got to emo Toby in part 3, I'd had enough.
First one=Poor, just really bland and safe. The Goblin was the biggest disappointment for me, Defoe was brilliant, but the look of the thing was Power Rangers.
Second=Saved by Doc Oc/Molina who was brilliant and some great FX. Felt more like a Raimi movie to me, the origin Doc Oc sequence was 100% Raimi and awesome.
Third=Awful, just all round awful. A couple of ok performances, a load of cheese and a terribly wasted opportunity.
IMO.
