Something was lost in production, but I suppose that's normal. His face looks somewhat compressed in height---like maybe his nose should be longer and thinner. The eye paint also reminds me of the eyes on Hot Toys' Catwoman, which seemed a bit dead (uncanny valley effect?). Oh well. I don't care enough to cancel my pre-order. I'm okay with everything but the sculpt and probably wouldn't use it anyway, even though I'm paying for it.

Quit taking your mask off while in you're in the suit, Peter!

How could Andy's Garfield look and moves be effeminate? He may not have been Arnie S, but when Peter was getting his wounds tended to by Gwen, and had his shirt off, he was ripped...and I don't mean by the Lizard. His muscle definition was wiry but obvious.

HT had no choice but to put this type of body on this figure, he was always the more gymnastic shape rather than the jock/muscle head. Steve Ditko's first strips have him positively skinny.

As for the head sculpt...

...it's a pity they changed it from the original, but it's still OK. I've seen much worse. It works for me so I am happy and would not cancel unless I had a sudden and large unexpected bill or some such.

^ Looks like the same sculpt to me, maybe a change in the eyes?

I see him in this pic

I think there are noticeable differences from the prototype, but I do see Garfield in that picture. It must be the vagaries of photography and lighting. I remember the DX10 T-800 looked off in both pre- and post-production photos, but it looked fine to me in-hand. It'll probably be the same with this.

I think the biggest problem with the sculpt is that it seems to have lost it's youthful look! The original captured Garfields young look, whereas now he looks older.

Also the eyes are off, in size and colour.

Personally I'm very disappointed with the headsculpt and I was planning on displaying it unmasked. Doubt I will bother now though.

Hopefully we get a better sculpt with the ASM2 figure! Here's to hoping.

The other thing is the hair colour, Garfield is not that dark! But looking more closely it seems they have made his face less elongated and I think this is the biggest problem. Such a shame as the proto was almost spot on, just a few little tweaks was all it needed.

Yeah I'm not wowed by this at all, if I pick it up at all I'll be waiting till UK sellers get him, I'll certainly not be paying inflated prices to get him early from HK or from Sideshow as it certainly doesn't warrant that :lecture

So where are you guys on the scale?

I'm about 95% happy with it

I am happy that I am getting it. I was not really too bothered by the new sculpt adjustments as this was only ever going to be shown 'mask on' anyway.

I was a little put out by the 'cannot raise the arms above 80 degrees' thing but that does not seem to put posing at too much of a disadvantage, it seems.

And, as many suspected, the head does look better in clearer photos, despite the changes.

So with that I'd say 95% minimum.

Picked him up so hopefully i should have him next week. At the end of the day like i said its £20 more than what it would have cost to go with my local UK seller so really not fussed if it was over £200 i wouldn't touch it.

He looks fine as Spiderman which is how he will be displayed in the detolf. I mean depending on how the sculpts looks in hand i may bash a parker, but i doubt it seeing as i never did with the toby sculpt from black suited spidey i might not here.

The unique neck system....

That's the reason for the delay right there fellow Freaks. They completely redesigned the neck, head and mask sections to make it like this. Before, it was going to be hit-and-miss getting a clean edge on the costume when it ended at the neck. Whenever you put the bare neck piece in it would have pushed that edge of the costume into the neck joint itself.

I will reserve final judgement until mine arrives obviously, but provisionally I will say that I'm putting this in the '89 BATMAN Stock Cape category. Namely, I applaud what they tried to do, but it looks like it could (perhaps should) have been done a little better.

Well it's become pretty clear now that the Garfield head is indeed a washout as we suspected when seeing the first lower quality pics.

The masked head is looking good though! I should have him in a few days, looking forward to seeing it in hand next to the Medi and Toby Spidey's.
Not sure what I'm gonna do with these though! :( Maybe it will look ok with the hood up.
I'm also getting one of Greg's first night out custom sculpts, so I think I will have it covered one way or the other.
