Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

I've decided to pass on this version of Superman - I'm just not into it anymore.

I'll buy the film when it hits stores, but my interest for any figures has gone now.

Yeah, seriously.

I've recently been taking stock of what I REALLY want from the 1/6 companies, & there's other 'grail' stuff I can use the money for.

This figure just isn't a priority.

Clark doesn't approve. :lol

That's understandable though. I've been waiting for this version of Superman for quite some time. I loved the film and costume designs, so these will be mine.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

I reckon this one has the potential of being a grail figure mainly because he comes with 1/1 scale kryptonian key.

I can understand that. The 89 Batmobile is my Grail piece. Mine is set to arrive Wednesday. But I still want this one and Roablock. After that I may take a break from collecting. HT may even make it easy for me, since I'm not the biggest IM fan. and I am purposfully avoiding colecting the Avengers stuff.(I do not want to open that can of worms). But this and Zod look nice. If they release Faora, that would get me excited.

Well.. a grail denotes a long time personal major want / dream item.

Nothing from this movie fits that description for me.

You might be right. My reasoning is that the suit itself has a strong backstory, stronger even than Batman's Dark Knight costume and that doesn't change in Dark Knight Rises which makes me think that Supe's suit won't change for the eventual sequel which might be better than Man of Steel and HT will re-release the same figure, probably with a different headsculpt and thus making this release a grail in the future. But that's just me.

Yeah - I've ignored a plethora of items. Keeping a focus can be difficult for some though, I get that too.

In short - for me, it's really just about enjoying what I truly love about pop culture, & my personal connection with it. I love the Superman character - & Reeve is my Superman. It doesn't mean I don't respect Cavill's version - I just don't need a figure, to relay that.

Speaking more broadly though, my money's going to the classic stuff predominantly from now on - with the odd deviation, like Prometheus etc. Even then, it'll just be Shaw from HT for me.

It's fine to window shop, but I'm glad I can focus on a small yet character rich collection. :)

It may become a grail because MoS may be the last decent film we see about Superman for a long, long time. TBH my hopes are not high for Batman/Superman, Bats is going to take that over and I do not believe DC/WB has the smarts to do it correctly. Their announcement of Batman/Superman strikes me as very spur-of-the-moment, not well thought out. I'm not feeling confident.

If I want to see Freddy vs Jason, I can watch that now.

So MoS may be the last film I want to commemorate. That's why I am buying this - that and for some reason I WANT that command key. I really do. :cuckoo:

Exactly! It does feel like they desperately want to get the same success as The Avengers.

I was a movie replica collector before I became a 1/6 collector, so I want the key more than the figure. In that regard, I'm more :cuckoo: than you, I suppose. But hey, it's a nice figure anyhow.

You can buy one on Amazon for $49 if u really want one that is metal. I assume the one Hot Toys is giving us is plastic. :dunno

I considered buying that one at first but seeing how HT's been giving die-cast accessories since dx06 (that I know of), I thought that this one is going to be die-cast as well. Either way to me it's sort of like buying a special edition blu ray that comes with a nice packaging and a nice figurine type of deal :rotfl

I have mostly done the same. I tend to buy the pieces from the things I enjoy. So far that has been Batman. I am waiting on the Returns version of Keaton. I am 30, but never really cared for the Reeve Superman. I always preferred the Dean Cain version. Cavil is now my movie Superman, so I want to own this one. Other stuff just depends on my love of the property. Like I am on the fence about The Crow. I love the film, but not sure if I love it enough to pay for that figure.

I'm going to reserve judgement until we see more. I am holding out hope that Batman does not dominate this film. Or that they do not spend the entire film as enemies. And this is coming from a Batman obsessive. I think it can work. But Snyder and Goyer(i guess he's writing this) need to remember that despite their different approaches, these 2 are friends. They respect and admire each other. Jeph Loeb understood that when he wrote them together. Miller never does.
