Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

I'm a just a fan of the character of Superman/Clark Kent so no matter my opinion on how good or bad each of these past movies were, I'm just happy to see Superman again on any screen. So I can't wait for the next time he's on the big screen. Heck, I'll even be excited to see a Smallville movie episode if they come out with one.
Loved the costume more in the latest film than Returns, so as soon as my Paypal balance is high enough, this figure is my next preorder.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

I found that when people talk about movies on here it can bring out their ugly side, a side we usually don’t see when we discuss figures.

You must be reading a different forum than i, for there are some really ugly figure discussions going on, and arguments i never thought i would see over plastic dollies...

Haha really? I’m new here, and the only time I see people get ugly on here is when it comes to movies. Bring up Nolan in any thread that isn’t batman and you’re dead. So far the figure guys have been pretty cool.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

Hate the movie but really want this figure. :duh
Go Figure! :duh :duh

At least, I can have Hot Toys Hulk kick his ***.

:lol

As for MOS vs SR.... I personally like MOS far better. Cavill's performance and/or charisma really pulled off the character for me. The film's darker mood also reflects today's seemingly more mature less innocent audiences too.

SR did have its moments. I love the plane scene. But Routh as a wannabe Reeve didn't do anything for me. Like someone previously said, this film needed its own identity.... :lecture

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

The main problem with Routh IMO is that he is a dull actor.
He also looks nothing like Superman, he happens to look a little like Christopher Reeve but not the Reeve side that looked like Superman.
Beyond that it looks like Singer had a very poor grasp on the character and made all the wrong choices; no real threat, little interesting action, a throwback to the seventies and the goddamn kid.
I don't hate SR but it is a misguided movie.
I loved MOS, it was not perfect but it is a game changer, it introduced the concept of truly high powered action to comic book movies, something I've been waiting for since the late seventies.
One thing is certain, the various reactions to MOS and to the Nolan trilogy and the fact that these reactions went far beyond fandom attest to the fact that Batman and Superman truly are the two most iconic superheroes on the planet.
We all carry "our own" Batman and Superman, other characters are far behind.
The 2015 Batman/Superman movie will be the one to watch.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

i think we all just have to realize you not going to change peoples minds about movies. if you like or dont like something, thats your own personal opinion. Dont go by critics, dont go by fans or your friends, just think for yourself and judge a movie by yourself. Silly to debate if a movie is good or not because we all like different things.

if people get facts wrong, then i can see there is a need for discussion.

Facts:
- Superman has killed before in comics and the movies
- Many innocent people have died in Superman comics and the movies under his watch.
- innocent people died in Donnor's Superman.

you cant argue those, they are facts. they actually happened. If you saw or read the comics, you will see those things happen.

Lastly, Zach Snyder even talked about why all the destruction in MoS and makes 100% perfect sense. His thoughts were not just of wow lets blow crap up and people will die. He actually thought about why all the destruction and its purpose:

“I wanted the movie to have a mythological feeling. In ancient mythology, mass deaths are used to symbolize disasters. In other countries like Greece and Japan, myths were recounted through the generations, partly to answer unanswerable questions about death and violence. In America, we don’t have that legacy of ancient mythology. Superman (who first appeared in ‘Action Comics’ in 1938) is probably the closest we get. It’s a way of recounting the myth.”

if you dont like it, or the movie, so be it...we will all be ok, really...we will :)

Other than that, resume the Figure Talk

I think its Superman Returns getting attacked here, by the MOS guys, not really the other way around. Most of us who don’t like MOS have explained why kindly, but if you say you like Returns than the laughing starts.

That's the thing. You are correct. It is one thing to hold an opinion and have the wherewithal to be able to express is succinctly and clearly...and another thing altogether to come here and just bash on Nolan/Nolan fans/Snyder/MoS because you perceive it as fun.

It goes along with (or should go along with) that fact that many people will always prefer the older version of Superman as being more traditionally good and will hold no qualms about expressing it so...but this does not automatically place them in the "HATERS GOTTA HATE" category. You cannot place every single "I prefer SM-I & II (and maybe even III and IV)" in the "HATER GOTTA HATE" category or you will have to place all the rest in the "IDJITS WILL ALWAYS BE IDJITS" category, because that is the only reciprocal remaining for them.

I paid to see MoS at the cinema (likewise the Reeve movies), I liked MoS, I intend to buy MoS when it hits 3D Bluray. I also have every single piece of Superman that has been committed to celluloid in my Laserdisc, VHS, DVD, HD DVD, Bluray collection - usually involving many double and sometimes triple-dips - I also have 3 HT Reeve figures (regular, SSC Exl, and SM-III Evil) and several autographed Routh figures (1 Medicom, 1 HT, 2 DCD, 1 Ken & Barbie set), all three current MOS figures on PO, and I'll happily PO more from the Reeve range, Returns range, MOS range and would do so too for Kirk and George should we ever be lucky enough for them to appear, and have I personally met Margot Kidder, Marc McClure, Sarah Douglas, Shane Rimmer and Brandon Routh. Bryan Singer even sent two autographed photos whilst at WB Australia during post production!

I think that speaks volumes about how I feel about Superman as a character. I am here because I love the SUPERMAN character, and I am not here to bash needlessly.

I really think Routh was great. He played the role perfect in my opinion.

I do believe that Zach is talking out of his *** here

While I agree with your other comments because, as you say, they are fact. They can be referenced within the characters universe.

I can't agree with this quote.

Basically Zach is trying to think of something really cool and profound to explain what was essentially eye candy and destruction porn

which is fine by the way, but just say it, 'recounting the myth' - what a load of nonesense

'We have no Myths' - i hardly think Superman will count as myth in years to come, it's not like he's a folk story or anything.

That's how I felt when I heard that. Snyder doesn't come off, by any means, as a very intellectual filmmaker or person (Not to slam him. He seems like a really great guy!)

I actually posted this earlier:

I don't think Snyder really understands the character. He's got a flair for visuals, but I don't think he gets the value of the symbolism, or what makes Superman unique.

Singer used his Christ imagery to serve the story. Snyder shoehorned random shots of Superman in a cross pose, and sitting in front of a stained glass Jesus, because "He's Superman, which means he's like Jesus. And that would be totally cool if we did this to hit that nail on the head (or wrist.)"

In SR, Supes is very much sacrificing his life to save countless lives. In MOS, he is a harbinger of doom. His very existence is a liability to the people of earth, and he ultimately "saves the day" with an apocalyptic grudge match. Nothing wrong with mindless action in a comic book movie; But don't try to pretend it's something deeper than it is.

I enjoyed the hell out of MOS. Every Supes movie except for the first one in '78 was weak sauce. SII is vastly overrated, featuring great characters, but terrible direction and a cut-rate score. After RETURNS, everyone wanted to see Supes "punch something," and that's what we got. The only sour note for me was the actual killing of Zod.

I can't understand you girls. You get all excited for PACIFIC RIM, which really was "destruction porn," but can't bring yourself to enjoy a superhero film that features a global threat made manifest.

As we see here, someone who insults and calls names when they don’t agree with others opinion.

Anyway people wanted to see Superman punch in a good movie. And to me while the action was good, I don’t think Snyder really did anything iconic or memorable with the action in this. Nothing like the Spiderman 2 train fight, Nightcrawler intro in X2, Wolverine going Bezerker on soldiers in the mansion in X2, Bane/Batman sewer fight, and Plane save in Superman Returns. This movie had action like Pacific Rim and Transformers which was filled with cool visual effects and destruction but nothing memorable. A better director in my opinion would have shown Supeman action but throw in some unique things to make the action memorable.

I don't want to get into one of these 'he said she said' situations, but to be fair, there was more to my post beyond what you have quoted which summed up my opinion of the 'destruction porn'

It went to the tune of 'Which is fine by the way'

next; although the Pacific Rim comment was probably general, I'd like to point out that I have no interest in it.

And lastly, I was happy to see him punch something/someone!

I think Faora got a lot of attention cause of that. ;)

Still love her speed-punching those marines. :rock

Oh yea I forgot about that part, that was great. My favorite action part of the whole film for sure.
