Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

God knows I have issues with MOS, but Cavill and the suit aren't among them. I'm a Superman fan, first and foremost, and I'm looking forward to this joining my Reeve and Routh figures (now we just need Kirk Alyn and George Reeves.)

.... I just hope he doesn't get a costume change or haircut in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. By the time that fig comes out, it'll probably push 300 retail.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

:exactly: :goodpost:

I couldn't agree more. It tried to give Superman, as a character, a human heart. It was not by any stretch a perfect film. But it tried to connect Superman with the audience in ways that MoS just did not even get close to.

And yet WB OKed it, greenlit the script and paid for it, so they knew what they were getting before one single frame was shot and it still managed to make more money that Batman Begins - the wunderkind Nolan product of the time. And that was with all the money spent by WB on all the failed Superman relaunch projects upto that time (including countless scripts, rewrites, re-rewrites, Nicholas Cage in a rubber Superman suit, gay robots, the power's in his suit and it's alive and it lives in a tin can, planned fights with polar bears and mechanical Spiders that certain lunatic hairdressers wanted to put into it), the whole of that cost was added to the cost of producing '..Returns'.

So, Remind me...why did BB get a sequel and not SR?

Superman Returns, with all of its flaws (stalker Superman, that kid, possibly the worst Lois Lane in history, another origin story, Spacey as Lex, SM not given enough super things to do) was still a real and better Superman film than MoS.

Mos was like everyone feared it would be. Grim, dark and moody. It was not in anyway encouraging or uplifting and at its heart had no genuine humanity. Exactly the Nolan influence that was so perfect for Batman...but was totally wrong for Superman.

I think people either forgot or don’t know but Superman Return was getting a sequel, its was in the works for about 2 or 3 years but Singer kept delaying it and doing other things. It eventually got scrapped altogether.

I didn't know that. A sequel would almost certainly have addressed the weaknesses of Returns, brought in a supervillain again, no need for any more origin story, world already loves superman, hurts when he hurts, Williams theme etc etc. Coulda kicked ***. Damn you Singer, the **** were you doing.

There's a rumor floating around that Jude Law would have been Brainiac. The treatment I've heard about sounds pretty damn awesome. I wish I could sit down with Singer and John Ottman to pick their brain on making RETURNS and what they would have done with the sequel.

Yea and we probably would have had Flash movies and maybe a Justice League movie already released.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

It’s his opinion whats wrong with that? I think people forget that Superman Returns received better reviews that MOS did. So there is a large amount of people that think the film is good.

Who cares about reviews. There have been plenty of great or fun movies that have gotten bad reviews and plenty terrible movies with great reviews. I never listen to critics because most of the time they are talking out of their ***.

I know what I want out of a Superman movie and returns isn't it. MoS isn't perfect but it's more of what I wanted in a Superman movie.

Yeah... wandering around a bearded, homeless man for 15 years, before putting on the suit and having a wanton disregard for human life sure is super. I especially liked that part when he cracked a kissing joke to Lois as the ash of the innocent rained from the sky. Or when he wrecked that government satellite after leveling half of the city in a fist fight, and said he was gonna do whatever the **** he wanted to.

Not weird at all. Snyder's Supes is a bastion of moral superiority.

I meant super as in actual showing his strength not super as in moral or carrying about few people when billions could die. As for wondering around with a beard, it's a origin story. The journey discovering who he is is what makes the movie great.

Ottman did a fantastic job on the score for SR, he incorporated the Williams music so well with his own stuff, and his own new theme from the 'How could you leave us' track was pretty good.

There was also a rumor floating around that Brainiac would have taken over Jason, aged him to a point where he was an adult, at which point he and Superman would fight and Superman would have to kill him. Of course it was just a rumor, but you thought there was a **** storm for a certain someone's death in MOS, I can only imagine what would have happened if this turned out to be true. :lol

I usually read this kind of responses when a movie someone likes gets bad reviews, but when they have a movie get good reviews they’re excited. Anyway if you understood what I was saying, with everyone laughing and thinking the general consensus is that Superman Returns is terrible, I was showing not only do a fair amount of people like Returns but so do the critics. I never said it was essential or throwing is MOS fans faces.

I read that. That would be pretty poignant AND address people's *****ing about the kid, if done right. Apparently Law was considered to play Zod in RETURNS, but that was dropped at the last minute. I'm interested to know how he would have figured in that plot.

So...Zod wasn't killed in that continuity? Since SR kept Superman I and II as 'vague history' Superman had already faced Zod and, one thought, killed him.

In one of the scenes that didn’t make it into Superman 2, it shows Zod getting arrested and what they fell in, took their powers away.

Never knew that. Man we totally need a Stamp Zod figure. I would allow myself to buy that.

Yup that would go perfect next to my CR Superman.

That's what fascinates me about his possible inclusion in SR. Would he be de-powered muscle for Lex? Would it be in a flashback scene? I'd really like to talk with Singer and find out.

And this may sound crazy, but I would totally drop three bills on a Stamp Zod figure. DX? Nope. Plenty of accessories? Probably not. Just a Hot Toys Zod with a basic stand and extra pair of hands, and I'll be more than happy to give them my $300. That's how much I love those films.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

I've only tuned it for the last few posts, I don't know how long this discussion has been going on.

I simply added my 2 cents, the same 2 cents I gave the night I saw MOS.
Wasnt pointing any fingers. Just read through the last couple of pages and couldn't believe what I was reading after YEARS of crap being spoken about Returns
:lol I can't believe what I'm reading over here. I watched Superman returns the night after I seen MOS. And Superman Reruns is not even comparable .
Did the same thing as FX was playing it over and over and for the first time, I couldn't sit throug it all the way

Ummm I've read countless superman comics and graphic novels where metropolis gets destroyed and all he's worried about are his friends at the planet and maybe a few folks that are in his immediate area that he can save :dunno:
About being a wanderer, he didn't have anything but the "key" to go off of. He wanted to help ppl w/o then knowing who he was. What's so hard to get about that?
It is possible that MOS was so bad that people re watched Returns and found it to actually be a good film.
Doubtful but sure why not, anything is possible right?
SR Superman rescued a spaceship and a plane, lifted a sinking ship back out of the water and flew a continent into space. That all seemed pretty super to me. Alas the other criticisms they might level at it I would probably agree with. It was a disappointing Superman film overall - but so was MOS.

All great points of Returns. Still far from a perfect superman movie just like the Reeve films.

but again, I'd like to note that I have always defended Returns and am no way hating on it. However, as a SUPERMAN fan-not a Reeve fan, a Donner fan, a Routh fan, a Singer fan-but an actual still to this day Superman COMIC reading fan, I find just as many flaws in the Reeve/Routh films if not more as I do in MoS. what it comes down to (and I'm sure it's pretty much the same for others) is which on I enjoy more and that would be MoS. not putting my opinion over anyone else's, just, for once, adding my 2 cents to this redundant cycle of "which one is better"

Well I know two people this has happened to. MOS can do that believe it or not.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

I watched SR again very soon after MOS and it still struck me as very 'boring' but as I said with certain scenes standing out above and beyond anything from MOS. Though in hindsight I thought Routh was too young and mannequin-like in appearance, I like the look of Cavill moreso.
