I'm gonna get on my soapbox for a bit. Think I'm a whiny *****, move along. But if some want a little insight as to why I'm pissed, by all means read on. I think there is merit to my perspective. So bear with me. I've collected HT for a long time. Back when they were still a start up company. For those fresh into the hobby, that was a time when HT did things for the fans. It was an awesome time to be a collector. They gave a ton of accessories, and if the figure came with no accessories, they came with a second HS. When issues with likeness and outfits arose, they did their best to resolve them by answering the fans or actually update the HS or outfit.
Today's HT is not the same. They became big and rich. They're no longer hungry like they used to be. IMO, they're no longer doing it for the fans, it's more for themselves. Yes, I'm aware they are a company and it shouldn't be surprising that it's about the money. But I don't think I'm out of line by wishing they can do both. You can make money but also be fair to the fans.
My complaints aren't entirely without merit. When things in the real world get out of hand, what do we do? We band together and demand change. You may be thinking "he's effin out of his mind, comparing doll collecting to real world issues". To that I reply with "so?" Just because the issue is about "toys", a hobby we all are passionate about, that excludes it from "wanting change for the better"? Ok, fine, politics a bit too real or out there? How about video games? When companies pull off tactics similar to this particular situation, what happens? Fans nerd rage and demand change! Sometimes it works, others, not so much. But the fact that change can happen sometimes is proof that fan outcry can make change happen. Still too out there? What about that $#!+ that happened with YouTube and the fine brothers? Trademarking the word "react"? Are you effin kidding me? So what happened? Viewers banded together and voiced their disapproval by dropping their subscription. And y'know what? It worked. They rescinded their attempt to trademark it...sadly it was mostly due to pressure from their sponsors instead of "doing the right thing".
I'm not insulting fans. I'm trying to educate them that this is simply a showing of greed from HT. not taking away from the quality of their work. But their business practice can get shady as **** from time to time.
They wanna make money. I'm aware of that as we all are. But they've made more than enough. They DIDNT have to do this but because they want MORE, they went ahead and did.
You can ask me "so you expect everyone to boycott this release?"....honestly...yes. Unfortunately collectors are a unique group. Everything is divisive and fans can never agree on one thing. So, unfortunately, due to the nature of this hobby, there won't be a collective voice big enough to let HT know they can't keep on doing this. I hope that will change one day.
So have at it. If I make sense, please share your opinions. If some just refuse to see it from my angle, then go ahead and post stupid gifs or emotes that add absolutely nothing to the discussion other than to garner a laugh or two from likeminded members. I'm for an open discussion or debate about this.
