I like the new designs and have no problem with how the fit into the rest of the SW world. But I want to see the movie first, which I'm looking forward to, and see how I like the characters before I commit to buying them.

Yeah, I'm always surprised that people can dive in to buy figures of characters when they haven't seen the movie. Phasma was a classic example of people diving in, then seeing the movie and going "huh? I don't want that stupid character."

I was was wondering the same thing... It does feel odd having these more advanced troopers introduced prior to the OT, but maybe if it's something very specific to him (sort of a pet project) that at least makes sense why you wouldn't see them later on. With trying to track down Luke, Leia and Han you really think the empire would send out some Death Troopers if they had them handy

But, that's enough speculation for me... I need to stay away so I don't get any unintentional spoilers.

The Vader belt buckle does bother me though, I hadn't noticed it before the HT figure and it really just sticks out as a weird choice.

It's funny that everyone's focused on the advanced troopers that apparently disappear in the OT, but no one seems to have an issue with an ultra-thin humanoid robot that sprints like Usain Bolt in RO, yet through the OT we only have awkward 3PO type robots that can barely shuffle.

It's like they went from an iPhone to a 1980's brick phone.

So you are saying that military hi-tech hardware is always the same as the civilian? Because that's what military droid K-2SO is comparing to protocolar droids like C3PO.

I could not disagree more, I love my Phasma, sure she wasn't in much of the movie but her presence on the shelf is outstanding, I don't collect based off of screentime, I collect based off of what either looks really cool on my shelf or if something is very important to me as a symbol of my childhood/love of cinema.....(and it needs to look pretty cool on my shelf too).

And let's not get started on mouse droids.

A little odd we never see anything even close to 2SO in ANY military environment or battle involving the Empire in the OT. And odd too that the Empire seems to use repaints of the exact same astromechs that everyone else uses for civilian purposes.

Maybe the Empire decided they just like the 1980's brick cellphone better than the iPhone.

I mean there were a lot of people that seemed very disappointed with the character as it turned out in the movie, and interest in Phasma seemed to noticeably cool here.

Phasma certainly looks cool as a design - I have a similar reaction to some of the characters in the PT; no interest in the character as presented onscreen but occasionally buy figures of them because they are cool designs, but mostly I buy figures of characters I really like.

That is protocolar droid too, not military. Man, Is it that hard to open your mind and imagine that K-2SO is for example just a prototype? In time of ANH he can be somewhere else in the galaxy. Or he will get destroyed. In the end he is imperial droid hacked by rebels so maybe imperials ended development of this type. Who knows. It's Star Wars, anything is possible. I wouldn't worry that they will not connect every string properly.

Then... what is a "military" droid in the OT (that directly follows RO) then? Why is a highly-advanced prototype in use before ANH, but nothing even remotely as advanced is ever seen anywhere in the entire "galaxy" of the OT, military or otherwise?

What about 4-LOM? A 3PO-type "protocol droid" but carries a rifle, is battle scarred and stands with the galaxy's worst bad*sses. Isn't he kinda "military"? Or the black version of EV-9D9 on the star destroyer bridge?

Why would the Empire use low-tech stuff like these when something like 2SO was available years before? That droid doesn't exist "somewhere else" in the galaxy - it's shown interacting with Imperials with the ANH Death Star. And destroyed? Like you can't build another one with similar technology by the time of ROTJ?

You can say stuff like "open your mind" but to me it's just "don't question the retcon, even if it makes no sense." Because in truth, based on everything seen in the OT, it doesn't make sense from a technological standpoint.

Supposedly it's a newly designed under suit, but I'll admit the first thing I thought of was my Jakku trooper which has just about no articulation (the forearm armor was even cracked because of that fat suit). That being said, as the TFA line went on I think they made a few improvements to the suit. I have the riot trooper (from the Finn set) and the articulation in the upper body is like night and day when compared to the Jakku trooper.

I woudl worry if they *did* try to connect it all. That was one of the primary failings of the PT and a lot of EU stuff. Loose threads are okay and in some cases, better than the alternative.

One droid with higher-than-average speed or agility won't be enough to break my suspension of disbelief.

For the same reason why the U.S. military still uses the M4 Carbine and the M9 when there are far more advanced rifles and pistols in existence. Older tech is more established, reliable, cheaper to maintain, and still gets the job done.
