Wouldn't that technically be the RO version? Considering at the end of ROTS they are constructing Death Star v1 which was being designed by Galen Erso at around the same time?

No, rots Vader has many differences. Also, nice signature.

Many years passed between the end of ROTS & the beginning of RO. 19 years. Galen Erso had nothing to do with the design of the Death Star. It was well underway before he was brought on. It was designed by the Geonosians, just like depicted at the end of AOTC when Poggle the Lesser gave the plans to Dooku, and was constructed by them as well in the early stages in orbit above Geonosis. Galen Erso was only in charge of figuring out how to harness the energy of the Kyber crystals in order to power the weapons system. All of this was depicted in the canon novel Star Wars - Catalyst - A Rogue One Novel, which I read and would recommend if you liked the movie RO. Many different scientists were in charge of different systems. Krenic was overseeing all the individual projects, not just Erso.

It's written that RotS took place in the year 19 BBY and R1/ANH I believe around 0 BBY/ABY as far as the SW universe goes. I'm not sure what Jyn's age was supposed to be in R1 as an adult. She was already a few years old obviously at the beginning of R1 and if she's supposed to be older than 19 in the film as an adult, then that means the beginning scenes in R1 could have potentially taken place around the same time as the conclusion of RotS. If she's supposed to be 19 in R1 (roughly the same as Luke in ANH basically and what I'm more inclined to say she probably is), then that means the beginning scenes in R1 took place a few years after the events of RotS.

No, RO is based on the ANH design. ROTS is the only symmetrical helmet with other costume differences.

VERY COOL!! Thanks for that, I had no idea! I’m going to pick up Catalyst this week!
Is there a way to tell what novels are canon and which ones are not?? Is there an official list of canon novels anywhere?

Some comparison from the net between ROTS and ROTJ. The helmet from ROTS looks more lithesome and the shoulder armour was wide that allows him to do some large hack! In general the design of ROTS was more like a warrior than a master from RO to ROTJ.

HT hair is always flat and lifeless....

They need to do some tones and shading work on hair.

Always been a failing of theirs.

It would help if they at least started giving it a light wash.

Looks fantastic. This was a day one preorder for me.

Keep those early releases rolling.

Interesting. I never really thought about it, but that makes sense.

Problem comes when there's that whole history between Krennic and Galen prior to RO's opening scene. Seems like Galen worked for years on the Death Star before going into hiding for a number of years.

That would place Galen's original work during the time between AOTC and ROTS, right? Must have been. Also, it's odd we don't see Imperial uniforms until the last scene of ROTS, considering that -- if you accept the above -- the flashbacks of Galen's life with Krennic prior to his escape would be during that time period. Meaning, there seemed to already be plenty of Imperial uniforms with ranks and everything else. A well-established Empire.

Very true also.

Galen and Krennic's history could kind of work if you go with the premise that Jyn is around 19 in R1, meaning that the opening events in R1 took place a few years after the conclusion of RotS. That would at least give somewhat of a window for Galen and Krennic to have established some sort of relationship. However, like you said, it was implied that their history dates back longer than a few years, but I suppose few years is at least something to work with.

The full fledged Empire was established at the end of RotS and it showed DS1 being constructed, so I guess you could pinpoint Galen and Krennic having began working together at that time or began to a short time prior to that, when there would have indeed been Imperial uniforms. That would have been around the time Jyn was born as well, if she's around 19 in R1.

Here's good timeline. 19 years between ROTS & ANH/R1.

The Solo movie takes place between the novels Tarkin and A New Dawn. i.e roughly 12-13 years before ANH/R1.

Good illustration of the timeline indeed. Here's another one I found:

Star-Wars-Timeline.jpg

As a side note, if RotJ took place in 4 ABY and Luke was born in 19 BBY (he was 19 in 0 BBY in ANH), that would mean he was around 23 during the events of RotJ. That timeline states that TFA took place in 34 ABY, 30 years after the events of RotJ. That would therefore make Luke around 53, not in his 60's or 70's as some have said. I'm not sure how old Solo would have been, but he was obviously considerably a bit older than Luke and Leia in ANH. So I would probably put him in TFA around what Ford's actual age is, in his 70's.

Seems like it's the Skywalker thing to die young, considering Anakin was in his 40's in RotJ when he died on DS2.

Yeah, I forgot that those flashbacks were Jyn's so she's likely born at ROTS and that could be the time Galen was brought on -- same time "Tarkin" is showing the Death Star to the Emperor and Vader. If she's 7-9 at the beginning of RO, then that would be plenty of years for Galen to begin work and ultimately abandon Krennic and go into hiding. So the opening of Rogue One is like 10-12 years before ANH.

Isn't the Solo movie 10 years before ANH? So Young Han Solo's adventures are happening in essentially the world of young Jyn.

Timelines and ages always gets screwed up in Star Wars. Here's what I always remember were the character ages in ANH when it opened:

ANH:
Luke: 19
Leia: 19
Han :29 (though honestly I remember reading he was supposed to be as young as 25)

So in TFA, Han is 63... could be I suppose.
Luke at 53 seems way too young for the way he looks but people will justify that "he's been through a lot"...

So was Leia's father, but he looked great for his age.

Mon Mothma aged horribly inside 4 years.

Obi-Wan... from ROTS to ANH aged very strangely.

That's precisely the timeline I would go with as well. So that'd make adult Jyn Luke's age in R1.

Yeah, according to that comprehensive timeline I posted, "Solo" takes place in 10 BBY, so indeed 10 years prior to ANH.

No kidding. :lol

For Obi-Wan in ANH, theoretically Ewan McGregor could have still played the part and just had him look a bit older, with some whisps of grey in his hair, and that would have been a more accurate age representation. Obi-Wan in ANH I believe would have been around in his 50's, much younger than he looked as Alec Guinness. If they release that solo Obi-Wan film that takes place just before ANH and McGregor reprises the role, that will just make it even stranger.

Luke did indeed look way older than 53 in TFA/TLJ, but you could attribute that to his lifestyle of living off the grid and living off the land. Heck, he even looked way older in RotJ than 23, which is theoretically what he would have been in that film going by the timeline.

I haven't read anything regarding how old Solo is supposed to be in ANH. To me, he looked around at least in his mid 30's, possibly even older (just by the way Ford looked). If he's indeed supposed to be 29, I'd put him in the same category as Obi-Wan as far as aging weirdly. Perhaps the "Solo" film will shed some light on how old he is supposed to be, knowing that it takes place 10 years prior to ANH.

Awesome!!! Thanks for this! But what are the purple exclamation points mean? I understand the “keys” for theatrical films and the books. Can’t figure out the purple exclamation points mean? Are they maybe comic books?

He'll be Luke's age, 19. Assuming the original ANH "age" is accurate.

Having Solo 35 and going after a 19-year-old Princess seems inappropriate... not that a 29 year old is any better (but it is a little).

No problem. :duff

That's a good question, I haven't figured that out myself. Obviously the film camera icons denote a film, while a television screen denotes a TV series. The books denote reading material, which I presume would also include comics? Not sure what the exclamation points indicate.
