I'm not sure about this figure. On one hand, I want this because it is Darth Vader, but on the other hand, this is the part of Darth Vader's story I wish I never knew about I feel like I would have to get Obi-Wan and Count Dooku if I get him, to at least have the 3 in a fight diorama

I’d say if you’re not interested in a character just don’t go for them. In my case Anakin is a must have but I never bought a figure just to ‘complete’ anything - because like you say you’ll have to buy even more to complete the one additional figure

Is the mechanical arm compatible with TFA Luke? I know it has the gold-colored spots but might still look good.

It's not. Luke's TFA mechanical arm is just a hand attachment. The Anakin arm is not only his hand but entire forearm and elbow that connects much higher up the arm than a simple hand attachment
