Has anyone tried giving their Ripleys some superficial injuries?:)

It would be nice to make it more authentic by tearing the shirt, but not until I find a tank top to go underneath.

Great work! And I've had that thought, about adding dings to Rip. And that tank top question too. You have to stretch that shirt neck out over her left arm enough to show the strap of the tanktop also. Lots more to do yet.:D

Got an email from Customer Service last night, little luck and I'll have a working PL in the next couple weeks :rock Then it's picture time finally :)

Judging from the number of complaints posted here (and elsewhere), it appears to be a bigger problem than just a few isolated instances. I would agree with what Screamingmetal said, this was a basic design "flaw" that really should have been anticipated and remedied before clearing the figure for production. There are other issues that should probably have received more attention, too. It may just be me, but I find in some cases that the quality, or at least the choice of plastic used for certain parts, doesn't seem to meet with the amount of stress and/or handling the part will receive in the hands of its eventual owner.

I suppose nearly all of us who post here take their figures out of the box and handle them a fair amount, am I right? Statues and model kits are one thing, but these figures are much closer to action figures, and we treat them as such. We shell out a lot of our hard-earned money for these figures, so I don't think it's unreasonable then, for us to expect these figures to be designed with consumers like us in mind, and to be made strong enough to withstand a certain amount of handling without these frequent breakage problems.

I don't want to be overly critical, but I really hope Hot Toys is listening and will take steps to fix problems like this before they release new items to market, 'cause this kind of thing only undermines the otherwise outstanding reputation their products have been building for the past couple of years.

I'm not saying that we should just let serious problems slide by, but HT has to be given massive props for even attempting something like this. I know that there are some companies that would look at all the potential drawbacks to a project and wouldn't even consider it. If the choice is not having it at all or having to deal with some minor design flaws - I say go for it!

I'll refer back to the DVD and see what cuts and bloody wounds she has on her face after she defeats the queen. I don't think she was too banged up at the beginning of their big fight when she first got into the PL.
You'll see that the bruise on her right cheek is inconsistent in the film; it see-saws between lighter and darker appearances between scenes, but it's always less bruised than the left. In film they appear larger than what I painted because I already added gloss varnish for sweat down the sides.
The bloody cut above her left eye (which I didn't paint) occurs from the tumble down the Sulaco airlock pit.
You have to stretch that shirt neck out over her left arm enough to show the strap of the tanktop also. Lots more to do yet.:D
Yeah, it'll involve some snipping with scissors in addition to the stretch. More frame-by-frame research!

Not really that strange normally when you get a replacement from SS on anything you have list what is wrong with it and the edition number if it has one.

On a side note I have one of these on ebay if anyone is still looking for one :monkey3

Strange because I thought I was the only one who had a problem with it from Alter Ego. I got my return label from them yesterday, It will have to wait until tomorrow when I can afford an ink cartridge to print it out.

I feel very fortunate that my PL from Sideshow didn't have any problems. Well, I did have to superglue one of the antennas on the top of the PL. It kept falling out. The one on the left side. Also, I had to superglue one of the hose pegs on the back. But that is very minor. I didn't have any problems with the pistons. My siren and lights in the cage all work just fine too...other than the siren light being a little too dim, and that annoying "grinding" sound. Good luck guys with your returns and replacement PLs. I hope it all works out for you! :D

Tracking lists an arrival date of Wednesday 12/12, woohoo! Let's do it baby! Ready to GET IT ON! You know it!

Sure, but a lot of people are having trouble with the pistons, not that they're broke but there are issues. Same thing goes for the P2 Predator's post breaking on the briefs, they shouldv'e known that there was going to be breakages, they're major design flaws in my eyes.

I got lucky on my loader in that there were no problems with the pistons, but I did break my Predator 2 armor on the post on the briefs and one of the rear tabs on the chest armor. I had to repair the post on the brief by using a pin vice and a thin metal rod, so no more breakages. I do think that some of the more fragile connectors on these pieces should be made out of metal if possible.

I feel the same way, DD. My critical remarks were only meant to be constructive, even if they didn't sound that way. I'm still nuts for HT's stuff, especially since they started the MMS line. I've been collecting their military figures for years and must have well over 50 of their figures by now, so I believe some of my little gripes are justifiable, based on a fair amount of experience with them. Anyway, my only hope is that they will continue to produce the kinds of figures most other companies wouldn't even attempt, while addressing any quality or design issues there may be with their products along the way. And I'm still completely hooked on their figures, in spite of any issues I may have with them. :D

I have had no problems with my PL since getting it. Other than the hell of the pistons coming out. But that is solved now.

I am still trying to get my HOW TO DING vid done! I did one, but it is too large a file to upload to YouTube! AHH! At 640 pix wide, it is too large a file.
I am shooting another one today sometime. I promise to get it in and here.

BTW, I did post two vids, two at Bob Burn's place.
Here: BOB's VIDS
Go see because just behind our heads in the KONG one, all the ALIENS heads are there! The one right by my head was sculpted by Giger himself! I wish I had touched it on video for you guys! I forgot it was there with Kong on my lap!

Anyway, new vid soon!

Les, depending on what format your vid is in, I could have you mail it to me on a CD-Rom and I could output it with my vid editing software in smaller, browser friendly format, let me know if you're interested.

I might have to now! I have dinged up my PL as much as I dare for three vid attempts! :lol Anymore and it will start to look like a patchwork tin man! :monkey1

I have one I can save and send you.

MAN! This is hard! :lol
Pjam, better go on without me bro! This may take some time!
Thanks MaulFan. Will do!
Thanks for the info guys.

(I did a really dark vid in my collection thread, but it is SO dark I may just redo it outright later on so you can see stuff at all...no way to win here! :D )

finally got around to digging my old alien toy out of storage for the "old school vs. new school" showdown..........LETS GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEEEE !!!!!:D

who ended up winning??? where's the winning shot? the killing blow?

TBD...........:rotfl..........in reality i would rather see that loader take a nose dive from a table before the alien. and to think i almost gave it away about 3 years ago.

Hey guys, I've got some images I wanted to share with those looking to further weather their Power Loaders. Les's tutorial as well as some of the PL prop images shared should be a good reference, but I figured while I have this opportunity I'd take it. We're having some work done at the house right now, and I have a CAT just parked out back for reference, so I snapped some photos of real world, functional wear and tear on this type of machine.
