I still don't like the idea of space Jesus, or that the Engineers created us, and then decided to destroy us because we killed one of their emissaries. Not very "Godly" of them to create us only to then want to kill us.

[cough]Biblical flood[/cough] :)

But seriously though, I'm glad they ditched the space Jesus angle entirely. There's enough interesting stuff without having to go there. :)

Not to get all "teemu" on everyone but I could stomach the Engineers being descendants of the Biblical "Nephilim" (giants) that assumedly fled into space when God sent the flood and therefore having a 2,000+ year grudge against humanity.

But Jesus being a 9 foot bald dude from another planet and somehow everyone mistook him for and recorded him as an apparently normal looking Jewish man born from Mary? PROFOUNDLY IDIOTIC. I *really* hope they don't go down that road if a sequel is made.

I dont think that that's what is meant by "Jesus was there Emissary." Jesus isn't supposed to look like an Engineer. The christian mythology of Jesus being part human and thus looking human would still be true. In other words, the Engineer's created him to look identical to us Humans so we could relate(?).

Unless they created us not of their will, as in there was a higher race that sacrificed one of them to create us (see my post in the Prometheus Movie discussion regarding the possible link to Persian mythology - post 5584 here: https://sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56771&page=559). If this is the case, then I can understand why the Engineers would want to kill us, and the fact that it was 2000 years ago is just a coincidence that it falls in the same time frame as the birth of Christ.

Who or what is "God" and how should he/she/it act or feel? It (God/the Engineers) is an alien entity that may have feelings, intentions, goals, etc. similar to ours or completely different to ours. To say "it would not be too Godly of them" is to project our own human nature and definition of "god" onto an entity we may not understand.
But I do like your link to Persian mythology.

I don't think I am impressed by the movie because ancient astronaut theory is nothing new, in fact, there are many cited evidence in all cultures. This movie seems very shallow by stretching one idea (most likely the writers haven't figured out the story and therefore left everything in suspense) and filling in the rest of the movie with CG effects.

Oh, I see. Well if that's the case it's definitely less stupid than if we hung a giant alien on a tree and then forgot what species he was.

Right, because all the good movies come up with their own concepts which have never been thought of by anyone ever ever in human history....

I assume you hated Avengers then? :rotfl

A good story takes ideas and combines them into new compounds. Sure, the ancient aliens theory is not new, but ancient aliens returning to Earth and creating a substance which causes violent mutation into monsters to possibly destroy us? I think that's kinda new. That's a new combination of ideas.

Here's the complication to all of this though: Some of the pictures we saw early in the movie were less than 2,000 years old. That would suggest they've been back more recently.

The Alien franchise including Prometheus is one of the few very unique ideas out there actually.

EVERYTHING will have to borrow ideas from somthing else nowadays. I don't think any new thing can be truly original today.

I know HT mentioned that we would see these around October, but I'm actually hoping that they'll surprise us with one or two figures at comicon.

Is it a real possibility?

Yup. Gotta say that would be fairly ridiculous. Why would they suddenly need an emissary if they had so much interaction with humans (as evidenced by the cave paintings) and could not be harmed? How did the entire project to "teach us a lesson" fail after one installation had fatalities?

If Scott really is going to go this route, he's going to need the best writers man can buy. Lindelof can be the guy who picks up the fast food.

LOL. I understand you believe all of Christianity is mythology, but you're a bit off. According to most sects out there, Christ was fully human (not part human) and fully divine. I get what you're saying though.

Nothing about Christ's ministry screams "We're all just from another planet" unless you disregard every ancient account and start fresh. Maybe they should have linked it to the Mormons instead?:horror He never referred to his Father in the plural as a race of beings, nor do the Engineers seem to have a handle on peaceful existence themselves. The one at the end of Prometheus makes the Ancient Romans look like peace-loving hippie smurfs.

Yep, regardless of whether or not you're a "believer" of Christianity if they want to offer up the notion that Christ was created as an emissary to the Engineers then they literally need to rewrite human history of the last 2,000 years. Because the text that has comprised the Bible for that amount of time has not allowed for the slightest possibility that that was the case, which in turn has shaped human behavior (in one way or another) ever since. They really should just leave that idea alone.

If you read "Heaven" or "Eden" as another planet, a lot of things change. Have you ever watched the History Channel Program "Ancient Aliens?" You'd be amazed how much in the Bible could be argued to point to extra-terrestrial influence.

I certainly hope so....having at least one figure hit by October would probably coincide with the DVD/BR release (extended cut please!!)

Has there been ANY "official" word as to what characters are being considered? Probably just one this year...heck, I'd imagine all of HT's factory time is being swept up by cranking out "Avengers" and "Dark Knight" figures, with the occasional "other license" slipped in here and there.

Whatever "Prometheus" figures are being considered, I hope they're packed with detail and display options....and no "PERS" please!!
