I fully concur. This version is the only version to own for me. I thought long and hard about getting the clean version as well as the bd version but in the end I couldn't justify having 2 Robocop's on display. It would just look silly, its overkill and it would take away from either figure having 2 side by side. I'm looking for the definitive version of Robocop and for me the bd version is where its at. The detail on it is fantastic. Most importantly reason though is that it frees up much needed cash for other things.

You mean there are other things you'd rather spend money on than two Robos?

Having two hi-end 1/6th scale figures of RoboCop in 27 years is indeed nothing but an overkill.
**** you, Hot Toys! Pass.

Definitely see the appeal of keeping one's collection trim, but I'm very happy to get both. To me it's similar to having clean and BD Terminator. Plus, BD Robo isn't even up for PO, yet, so that gives anyone that gets the clean at least a year to enjoy it on display by itself.

The only downside is that, other than a flawed ED209 re-release, there aren't any villains. We can't even get a Predator team, so I don't expect his entire gang, but we really need a Clarence.

I also agree with keeping the collection trim and not buying too many duplicates of figures/impulsive buys knowing there will be other great figures on the way.
For example, I am trying to keep just one IronMan and one War Machine to represent the Iron Man movies...

I guess it comes down to how much you like this character....and I am one of the biggest Robocop fans out there...

Personal Story:
When I was a young lad, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up as a grade 1 school assignment. I was so into Robocop that I wrote that I wanted to be a police officer in Detroit, get killed and than be remade into a Robocop!!! Hahaha... Also, my mom's maiden name is Murphy so it added to my love of the Robocop character.

I'm sure the final product will look fine in the nose area.

And besides, 10 bucks says the Battle Damaged one has gimmicks. It certainly has the same stand. They'll be using the same body, so bet on electronic voices..

It even has the larger button on the back just like the regular. Granted the Robocop voices aren't a Hot Toys employee talking with an Asian accent and they're the REAL voices of Peter Weller as Robocop, it'll be glorious.
Regardless of how lovely the clean one ends up - I want the BD figure. I know they're using that ugly stand again, & yeah - I hate that. You also may be right; my hopes for a gimmick free BD RoboMurphy could be empty.. but IF they do it, what am I gonna do? I really want this one.

Yeah, good point. I'm doing that with Arnold of course, but I've already got the MMS117 & 136, & bought them for reasonable prices back in the day. Conversely, even if I wanted both RoboCop figures (which admittedly I kinda do), I'd be starting from scratch, & I'm on a pretty tight budget right now. I'd consider myself a BIG RoboCop fan, but at THIS stage at least, the BD figure (providing there's no QC / gimmick dramas with it) will do for me splendidly. :)

Voices are a little gimmicky, but if they sound great and are Weller's, I don't see how anyone could be opposed to it. Hot Toys have done a good job of hiding the speakers and button.

When I was a kid I loved talking toys that were done well. I still do.

thats hilarious

I think owning more than one version of a character really depends on how much you like the character and how different the second figure is. In this case I think it's totally justifiable to buy both the regular Robocop and the battle damaged Robocop as they look pretty different despite being the same character, suit, etc. If you can afford it and have the space both figures look great and both bring something pretty different to a collection. I'm trying not to buy too many multiples of one character (my main exception is the T-800 from The Terminator and Terminator 2) but there are certain ones that I like enough to have a couple versions.

Two of only a handful of pop culture characters where it's preferable, even justifiable, for a company to double-dip.

By glorious you mean "a pointless gimmick that will be used rarely, if ever", right?
