Re: Article: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures

I just checked out a local E-tailer site that I have bookmarked, & searched for this figure.

They've got it up for pre order alright - for $400 AUD shipped - just for the RoboMurphy.

That is absolutely, well & truly ****ed.

Unless I can get this set for much less down the track - I'm forgetting about this one too. :(

Re: Article: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures

Damn, sorry to hear that. I know you've been holding out for this one in particular.

Re: Article: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures

The mark up on these ****ing things is idiotic.

WTF honestly.

Re: Article: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures

Yeah I’m not to excited about the price myself, as a result I am not 100% committed to this purchase. Once you add the other charges (i.e. Shipping) its beyond a $300 figure. As for movies I love Predator more than I do Robocop but I do not see myself paying $300 for a Predator figure. BD Murphy does not even com close to the fine attention to detail that was Elder which was a $224 figure (a price I am comfortable with). Or Scar at $220.

Re: Article: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures

Well.. yeah.

I had to pass on the Eric Draven, DX13, MMS-238.. & now this isn't looking great either.

I may have to channel all my funds into SW now, going forward.

Ain't missing out on ANY of those figures on my list.

Re: Article: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures

Yup the time of making purchasing decision due to high prices is already at play in my collection. I really liked the BD T1 T-800 but decided to pass (I did however buy the diorama base off ebay). Will not be buying die cast Robocop, I have decided to pass on Han Solo (will be getting Chewbacca) and on the fence with Sideshow’s R2 D2 (might need those funds to fill the top portions of $300 figures).

Also the fear of what Batman Returns will cost.

Re: Article: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures

My income situation is up & down these days, & I have multiple licenses I really love.

It's horrible when you've got to choose one out of five or six things, for budgetary reasons.

I'm still catching up on a couple of older figures too. :gah:

Re: Hot Toys MMS266 "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures S

Yea, as much as Robocop is iconic, I gotta stick to my main lines and not crossover to keep the spending in control. I still follow the thread, and still very tempted. Maybe after the figure released next year and final product is revealed I may have room for this.

To add to my post earlier about high prices resulting in making decisions…

Unmasked Robocop is a figure I really wanted and in the decision process this figure makes the cut of one to purchase. Frustration kicks in when at $300 we are paying the same price without any die cast, sound feature, expression face plates etc that the regular version included at the same cost. As a result the feeling of being light on accessories. I think HT could have “beefed” up this figure by added a diorama base (not just the same stand as regular), small drill and removed helmet accessory (hell you added baby food).

Yeah, there's no diecast, likely because of all of the BD detail, but no sound features, no removable helmet (someone pointed out the helmet with the clean version won't work because there's an eye in it), no drill and no scrap-metal mirror is kind of a rip. I'd even take a cardboard backdrop at this pricepoint.

One thing I've learned - Peter Weller is an expert negotiator.

Re: Article: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures

I was happy that the release was basic - but the price is completely idiotic. They must think we're drooling plebs with nothing better to live for. :lol

When I got sucked into the 1/6 community back in 2009, I joined at a great time. The level of detail & value was excellent, prices were 'reasonable', my income situation was better, & there was less to scramble for.

Now, it's truly insane. They want stupid money for stuff that for a significant portion of the time, is QC issue ridden in some way or another, & the sheep line up to line their pockets anyway.

Honestly, long live enterprise & all that - but enough's enough. Once I'm on track with my focused wants - I'll be enjoying the pictures from the sideline.

I started collecting HT’s in 2010 with Berserker Predator and T-600. Both were $180. Tech Noir was $170 and the upcoming DX releases (Sparrow and Jones) were about $220 - $230).

As a new HT collector I understood the price breaks. DX are deluxe figures that have PERS and come with a **** load packaged in nice boxes with foam protective packaging to warrant the $220 price point. Regular figures you will get for $150 to $180. Agreeing to these prices you enter this world.

Im curious if I was a new collector today if I would even stop to entertain paying $300 for BD Robocop (which doesn’t even come with his iconic helmet as a accessory?)

I’m assuming here, but has Hot Toys made it harder to welcome new customers???

That's a good price, great in fact but there's a catch...

"I agree to pay minimum 10% non-refundable deposit for this item."

Um, nope. I don't. But thanks for the link.
That 10% deposit then allows you to pay what you want when you want! Or if you pay in full up front you get the set for £300..

Perhaps HT has adjusted its prices in light of the aftermarket profits it doesn't get. For example, if you got a DX09 for $220 or $230 and it's going for $400, HT would be remiss not to take that into account.

The thing you have to ask yourself is, "Am I ever going to get another BD Robo with a to-die-for Murphy headsculpt?" I'm betting on "No," or at the very least, not bloody likely, so the answer is obvious.

I agree with all of your points. I am a relatively new collector - DX09 opened the flood gates to my addiction - and I too, am a bit turned off by the sky-rocketing prices. What helps me rationalize these prices is the progression of detail we are now enjoying.

The Predators you mentioned might not be good examples but during the time of 150-180 price points, most likely you were not getting an extremely close likeness. The Sarah Connors, Marcus Wrights, T-1000's, Mark III RDJ sculpts pale in comparison to the recent collectibles of Gamoras, DX13's, this battle damaged Robocop sculpt and the recent DOFP Wolverine to name a few. Isn't that worth something?

I am playing devils advocate here as I much prefer the 180 - 220 price points!!

Re: Article: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures

I think I summed it up pretty well earlier.

Once upon a time - things were better.

Re: Article: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures

The robocops are certainly overpriced but its not all bad. Back in 2009 I paid $209 for the lost predator. I recently paid $259 for the terminator figure and that's with shipping. If you hunt around you can get good bargains but admittedly they are getting harder and harder to find. One thing that really opened up my eyes to the way this is going is the recent listed prices of the alex murphy bd Robocop on ebay. A lot of sellers are charging $550 and over for the pack which in my eyes is price gouging at its worst.

What helps me rationalize these prices is the progression of detail we are now enjoying. The Predators you mentioned might not be good examples but during the time of 150-180 price points, most likely you were not getting an extremely close likeness

I don't think the price increase is to do with better detail. I think we were getting as good detail back then for the time period and were impressed by what we were getting. Its just a natural progression of production methods on the figures has improved as everything does with time. HT could charge the same price points for their figures but I think they are choosing to charge more and more just because they can due to demand. Also Factoring in inflation the prices have gone up some more so then others like the Robocop figure.

What all this means of course is I can no longer afford to spend willy nilly on figures and just have to choose the purchases I really want more carefully. In that regard I suppose the price increase has curbed my greed to a certain extent. I do think however that once figures start going over the $300 dollar mark that's where I sign out and say enough is enough though.
