Re: Article: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures
I started collecting HT’s in 2010 with Berserker Predator and T-600. Both were $180. Tech Noir was $170 and the upcoming DX releases (Sparrow and Jones) were about $220 - $230).
As a new HT collector I understood the price breaks. DX are deluxe figures that have PERS and come with a **** load packaged in nice boxes with foam protective packaging to warrant the $220 price point. Regular figures you will get for $150 to $180. Agreeing to these prices you enter this world.
Im curious if I was a new collector today if I would even stop to entertain paying $300 for BD Robocop (which doesn’t even come with his iconic helmet as a accessory?)
I’m assuming here, but has Hot Toys made it harder to welcome new customers???
Not at all, I'm new, or getting back into collecting, and Robo was going to be my first figure. But jumped the gun and bought Joe Colton cause I love the sculpt and am very happy with my purchase. I was never effected by their prices because I had better income or just used tax returns, and I owned the first Robo, which cost me with shipping 200.00 before it got inflated to 500.00, but just got done watching Robocop '87 and this is as accurate as you are going to get to a figure based on a movie. I am doing flexpay so it isn't anything I can't handle. As said before by another freak:
I QUOTE:
The saying "The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys." comes to mind.
The price they have them at reflects all kinds of factors including raw materials cost, design and development time, salaries, production costs/waste, licensing fees, etc.
And the prices are not likely to get better when most of the items on these figures are synthetics derived from petroleum, nor are the chances very good of a company like Hot Toys wanting to deal with the Admin. problems and costs associated with flex payments.
I remind myself that; At the end of the day these are luxury items. Non essentials. If you cannot pay, don't play.
