Don’t call me a villain BUT I am not seeing Luke in this sculpt. I see more Tom Cruise nose. Kind of like one of the Black Widows looking like Nichol Kidman .

Personally I like the harder sculpt and tone on the DX

I agree, I liked the proto sculpt with the harder edges much better, thought it was the best sculpt of luke I'd seen. This one is too soft and I prefer the DX or even the knock-offs on ebay over this one.

So funny the X-Wing Luke thread got closed. Can't say anything negative about Sideshow's products on their sponsored site. :lol

Apparently you have to wait until the product is in hand before you can bash it even though we've already seen what it looks like:dunno

Yeah I think it's a bit silly that thread got closed too but whatever. This figure is looking great, I think I'll put in my pre-order for it tonight. Hopefully it ships soon!

Even if he has quite the tower of hair in some shots, I think the sculpt looks pretty good for Hamill. Most "pretty boy" 70's/80's actors like Hamill, Cruise, Sheen and MJ Fox in their late teens to 25 had a pretty similar look to the jawline and cheeks. Some people were similarly saying the HT MJF looked like Sheen.

Yea... it's the bridge of the nose between the eyes that's Cruise like, but I have seen pictures of a young Hamill where this feature seems to stand out on him too..

The thing is about Hamill is I swear there are times even in the span of ANH that the guy looks completely different from himself from other parts of the same movie. The same is true of him in the other two Star Wars films post his car crash.

I think the Hot Toys sculpt is the best one yet. To me it looks like a young Mark Hamill; though perhaps slightly idealized. If others don't see it- that's fine, I'm not going to villainize anyone for their opinion . But I am really happy with what I am seeing.

But the disclaimer at the bottom of this website says "Sideshow Freaks AKA Sideshowcollectors.com is not owned or operated by Sideshow Collectibles, Inc." so why would they close a thread with valid criticisms?

There was that whole business a while back (I think with the Sideshow 1/6th Green Lantern thread) where it was basically decided that people can't be overly negative about products unless it's deemed constructive criticism. Personally I find it sort of silly that people aren't allowed to express opinions one way or another on products in a public forum, and in the case of the Red 5 figure the criticisms were against in hand product pictures not the pre-order so I think people have a right to express their dissatisfaction with it. I highly doubt at this point that any in hand pictures will make it more appealing as the pictures we've seen show it in a fair light.

Better question is why isn't there a Hot Toys forum? Only reason i'm here is the community and i'm sure 95% of that would shift to a HT board anyway.

I must admit I thought it pretty strange myself, particularly since this is a subscription forum now. I read most of the conversation over there and it was honest and unbiased.

Well, I thought so anyway.
People DO have that figure in hand. The pictures being discussed were in hand pictures.

Sideshow would be paying attention to the thread, because it's one of the few open discussions about in-hand pictures of a releasing product, and it is a very negative assessment. But to be fair, they're somewhat poor quality pics from a single source, so I can sort of understand Darklord Dave stepping in to cool it until a few more sets of pics show up - to make it a bit fairer (even the guy who took the pics said he liked the figure, but then again he would have paid around US$300 for it.:lol)

The whole release/in-hand thing is really weird in this case though. I can understand that HT products are made in Asia for an Asian company, so would release there before HT distributor SSC ships them (well, I wouldn't expect the sometimes 2+ month difference, but anyway...) but why are Sideshow's products being sold in Asia before Sideshow even receives them? I mean a guy in Hong Kong has the Luke X-Wing in his living room but if you were to call Sideshow themselves they'd say "it won't arrive in our warehouse for another 2-3 weeks" or something. Weird.:dunno

Piracy issues aside, it's like Warner Bros. releasing "Dark Knight Rises" only in Spain a full month before it comes out in the U.S. - like, wouldn't WB want to closely control the release of WB's own product? Otherwise something like this is bound to happen, right?

It's all about the $ at the end of the day which is perfectly understandable.
However there is a muddy, messy grey area here when the members are also paying a subscription fee.
You can't really have your cake and eat it, or maybe Dave can. :lol

That might be why he's well over 400 pounds.

There were Budget Stark's photos as well, which were taken through glass, and as he said himself, under poor lighting.

Even Stormtrooper Luke didn't look that great in Stark's video of stills. His only real comment on the SS Luke was that the sculpt looked "soft".

It seems to be always the same with SS releases. The first photos are bad, and the figure improves somewhat under better conditions. But rarely enough improvement in terms of paint application for the price. I find that the underlying sculpts are generally fine - Snake Plissken; Hoth Luke; Hoth Han capped (and un-capped from the side!)

On display the lack of paint becomes less of an issue anyway. But it makes decent photography almost impossible! A Hot Toys figure is normally far easier to photograph - even if the actual likeness is off they still look realistic.

This was from John Woo's set:

So in hand it's going to be better than that. I really don't want to have to cancel this one, even though there was no NRD when I ordered. All I'd be losing is a $20 monthly code.

The pics that were posted on that thread were in-hand, proper quality, actually quite professional. Not through glass or in-store. So why the censorship?

Budget Starks pictures came after the fact. Not sure why you would post those and not the others.

I don't have any other of John Woo's photos saved apart from the last one I posted with the helmet on. I think the shadows on the face help it!

Well my wallet just let out a cry. Put in an order for this along with the Sandtrooper tonight (used some Rewards Points to bring the cost of the Luke in Trooper disguise down and the October monthly coupon to bring the Sandtrooper down a bit). I now have all the Hot Toys Original Trilogy figures except Boba Fett on pre-order. Lord help me. :lol

I like this post. Repped. :duff
